I don't even go to GOG forums at all, I just had a random thought today to go check on how's the client doing and bam, here's the alpha lol. I don't buy games on GOG but I am really interested how they can pull off linking these different Steam, Origin, uPlay networks together. I don't know if "Cross Play" is even possible, publishers might just say "no thanks" and there goes that brilliant idea.
Edit: + it has a built in GOG store, why give the competition an edge? As I understand it wants to connect gamers accross gaming services. The GOG user could connect to every single gaming service and be able to play with his/her friends, but I don't see how let's say a Steam user could connect to a friend on Origin / Desure / idk. GOG would pretty much be a central hub and as a result gamers would prefer GOG more. (that is the game is sold on GOG)
Steam takes a 30% from every sale for itself (if i'm right), that's why publishers like EA boycotted Steam in the first place. What would stop EA from boycotting GOG as well? But really, I don't ever expect to see EA, Ubisoft or any major publisher on GOG, because it's DRM free.
I would like to imagine this service as a universal game library -> Steam, Origin, GOG, uPlay, Desura, Arc, GFWL, Rockstar Social Club and who knows what other service.
