Well another GOG sale is in the books and as usual I'm wondering how my fellow classic gamers survived.

They got me good this sale. I picked up:

  • Mount & Blade (free)
  • The Witcher 2 (free)
  • Oddworld Abe's Oddysee
  • Oddworld Abe's Exoddus
  • The Longest Journey (already had Dreamfall)
  • RUNE Classic
  • Tales of Monkey Island
  • Theme Park
  • Sam & Max The Devil's Playhouse (completing Telltale's S&M. Wait a minute... o.O)
  • Gangland
  • Wing Commander Saga (the ones I didn't have from other purchases)
  • Ultima I-IX
  • Myst Collection
  • Legacy of Kain Series

Totaling 33 new games.

I don't know why I keep buying games I already have in Steam and even physical copy format.

I did not buy many games this sale, since I already have bought most of the old clasics that I played when I was younger on previous sales, but I did pick up the Tex Murphy pack with the 4 older titles, and I also bought Space Colony HD.

TLJ and Dreamfall. I don't even know why, considering there should still be a working copy of TLJ in my house, and I heard Dreamfall sucks. I wish I had picked Myst Collection.

I own 19 games on GOG. I payed for 0 games on GOG.

I'm not ready to make the jump and start rebuying my whole collection on GOG just yet (and why should I be?). But I do appreciate their generous giveaways and participate in every one of them. Image of my free library (ok, actually 2 of these were codes given from other sources - witcher 1 from steam and dreamfall from kickstarter).

I have 21 games, only three of which I've actually purchased (Gabriel Knight Trilogy).

I view GoG.com as a supplement to my library, rather than a place I need to rebuild my collection.

i thought the same...but then i found out, that the old dos games from gog make no Problems and you can Play them on new machines... and they run better then the same dos-games on steam...

Already own the D&D collection from GOG, it's the only thing that really is a must have from there, IMO... I got the free games (even though I already had Witcher 2 on Steam...)

Got nothing. There was no 75% off for theme park, theme hospital and fahrenheit, these are all the games i'm interested on GOG. Yeah i'm cheap, i know.

I was also hoping to get Fahrenheit but didn't want to bite at 50% discount either after my other purchases.

I picked up Mount & Blade and Stronghold Crusader HD.
SCHD is pretty advanced in my opinion, but also just really good.

  • Mount & Blade (Free)
  • The Witcher 2 (Free)
  • D&D Collection (Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale Complete, Icewind Dale II Complete, The Temple of Elememtal Evil, Neverwinter Nights Diamond, Neverwinter Nights II Complete, Baldur's Gate The Original Saga, Baldur's Gate II Complete. Dungeons and Dragons: Dragonshard, Forgotton Realms: Demonstone)

That's it.

Picked up Farenheit just before the Fall sale when they had a smaller sale featuring French publishers.

I bought the D&D Collection there 8 months ago or so. I've still never played any of the games, but I vividly remember seeing the Baldur's Gate ad in my PC Gamer magazines so that nostalgia alone got me to buy the collection. Weird, I know.

I got the Tex Murphys a while back and Ultima I-IX this sale as well. Never played any Ultima games, but I had one growing up that I never tried so I figured why not?

I do the same thing, OP. While I own some of my GOG games as original CDs, and even have some of them on Steam separately, it's always nice to have a digital backup that isn't tied to a DRM, just in case you lose your original and you want to do the offline thing. Steam's great and all, but GOG has them beat on the freedom-of-use front.

Glad I'm not the only one! That's my mindset as well. I like Steam and have many games there. Yet, I like being able to play offline. GOG lets me feel more like I "own" something than renting them at Steam.

So so. Some fun but takes WAY too long to get going. Dungeon Keeper does what it does better imo.

Hmm, I have Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2 at GOG. Never played them, but they look great. Someday. Accursed backlog...

I would have bought more, but I'm broke and already own 95% of the games on GOG.

Do you own them all in GOG, or in Steam and don't want to "double-dip" so to speak. If you actually own them in GOG that's impressive! Well, it is either way, but considering GOG doesn't have the bundles like Steam, it makes each game count over there.

Also, what did you end up getting this time around?

Permalink

I ended up buying three games; Privateer 2, and both the Carmageddon's.

As for "doubling up," I don't do that with all my games, but it sometimes happens. Generally, GOG is my "main" library, and Steam is my "backup." If a game I want appears on GOG, I try to buy it there, even if I already have a copy on Steam. I might buy a game on Steam when it's not available anywhere else, or if I want to play multiplayer on Steam.

I would highly recommend Wing Commander: Prophecy gold edition. Freaking awesome soundtrack.

The Wing Commander games are great. I'm particularly fond of Wing Commander III. My brother had that game for the 3do growing up so there's definitely the nostalgic factor, but it's a great series.

Wanted to add more games to my GOG collection but Steam wallet makes buying games there easier and the price in my region's pretty cheap too. When I have a credit card I'll grab the classic RPGs there in an instant. Playing older games in Steam is a pain. Gothic 1-3 is not that old yet I have to use patches and play them outside of Steam.

Understandable. GOG does do an amazing job making ancient games play well on modern systems. That and they typically include a lot of bonus content.

Omg... you just reminded me that I collected the stamps for every day then forgot to get the last one. Completely forgot about the whole thing until now ._. Not that it really matters... I already bought TW2 on GoG ages ago but the movie would have been nice.
