I bought someone a copy of Dark Souls II to trade. Needless to say, because of the cooldown, i gifted first and he scammed me. Never returned anything. Bought that game with the only $20 i had from a friend who gave it as a gift. I did it out of impatience and now I feel terrible. Please make sure you check who you trade with. Dont ruin your christmas. Merry Christmas everybody, and safe trading :)

This. The new trading cooldown and all this crap really make it so much easier for people to scam you rather than not. :/

Yeah, calling out scammers is bad. It's much better to shut it and have another lucky person get scammed than to call somebody out. I love this site!

well I made a profit of 2 csgo keys by buying 4 copies of dark souls 2 for the trader's dota 2 keys XD. He gave me 5 dota 2 keys to buy each copy of dark souls 2. I sold them on market and then bought the copies. He gave me 2 extra csgo keys too. Also got 6 holiday cards by spending someone else's 60$ XD

Man dont feel horrible. Even the best traders who trade for years got scammed at some point of their life. It will pass and you wont give a sh*t, you learn on your mistakes.

I just feel bad that a friend of mine bought the gift card, gave it to me as a present, and I wasted it

I have some duplicate christmas gifts I want to trade but I'm so scared I might run into a scammer this sucks :(

Best trade system that completely removes scamming potential would be:

Make trade offers -->>

accept

Can still go back but everything is locked and cant be changed -->>

accept // go back

Can no longer go back or change but can still cancel trade -->>

accept // cancel

make trade

but sadly they don't do it this way

The only safe way is to trade everything in a single trade window. That means waiting for the 30-day cooldown on gifts to end.

Happens, don't feel bad, it's really not worth it. I'm sure Christmas and New Year's cheer will win you soon enough, if you let it.

IMPOSSIBLE! All valves changes have been to make trading safer than evar!!! ITS TRUE! GABE TOLD US! YAY VALVE! YAY SAFE TRADING!!!

All joking and pot shots at how big-an-asshole-valve-is-becoming aside, scamming happens... you learn from it, you get wiser, and the anguish will eventually subside over time. I got scammed... it still kinda stings a bit to remember it, but it didn't stop me, and ultimately what i loss wasn't much compared to what i had gained by sticking with trading and keeping on going. People are assholes, especially traders... sometimes the things you learn from trades that go wrong, are more valuable than the item you lost.

Now that I think about it, if the New steam policy wasn't in place, I wouldn't get scammed. live and learn I guess

Permalink

thats because the policy was never about safer trading - it was a lie to negate outrage by the public by concocting a stupid 'reason' for it that they could pretend was beneficial to us... It was always about trying to kill off trading to maximise profits.. basically valves greed created a situation that created more risk for you than there needed to be.

So running a business is greed now? Okay.

Their business was more than fine, the greed and lust led to this believe me

The only greed and lust I saw was from the region exploiting scalpers that forced their hand.

I'm sorry, was Steam not pretty much a monopoly making insane profits before these changes? Was Gabe Newell not already a billionaire?

"Running a business" doesn't have to equal pulling dick moves and placing restrictions on paying customers. This is just pure greed.

Report it to Steam Support.

You won't get your gift back, but you can have him trade banned. That'll save people from his future scam.

Report it to steam support and report that your account was hi-jacked. This might get your game back.

Unless he was offering more than $20 I'm not sure why you were intending to trade. Why couldn't they just buy the game themselves?

these things happen also in real life. you have to learn, and get experienced. don't do any trade in rush. this is the rule.

Impatience or deals that seem to good to be true are your biggest enemies while trading.
I've been scammed twice the first 2 months on steamtrades, lost about 50$.
I'm very cautious now and havent been scammed since (more than 500 succesful trades).
Just take your loss and consider it a lesson learned, there's nothing else to be done.
