New pc build

Oh cool, using the i5-4590 myself :)

From the pcpartpicker list, I saw some Ducky keyboards. There should be other Ducky, Filco, or Cooler Master keyboards available if you look around. I'm not sure what stores sell to Australia and a lot of the listing on pcpartpicker from mechkb.com were out of stock.

SNB and IVB non-k models were able to be pushed up 4 bins to their max turbo speed on all cores. I originally had a Z97 motherboard in the build but I didn't realize Intel had locked Haswell non-k models down so that they can't be mildly overclocked at all.

Windows 7 maybe? Most people prefer it although it will probably stop getting updates in some years. I myself prefer Windows 8 though.

It's complicated, you want one of the best GPU today and you're willing to save on the rest of the PC. But you can save in few steps, if you really want to spend 500 bucks on GPU alone. Save on the parts that will be easily replaced, or rather not thrown away when you get something else. That means, you want proper monitor as it's one of the non-replaceable component of whole PC setup (good monitor can find its use for years). GTX970 is atm. bit overkill for 1920x1080, that's one my points why you should wait for GTX960 results.

Anyway if you really want to go this way, here are my tips:

1. You don't need SSD no matter what anyone tells you, 120GB is still just for system, unusable for games for its limited space. It doesn't matter if your OS will boot in 5 or 20 seconds and SSD have limited impact on gaming performance as everything is cached in RAM anyway. (+82$)

2. CPU cooler is nice, but it won't change much as your desired PC case is perforated like emmental cheese. Use box cooler and change it later, it won't have any problem cooling CPU as it's not overclockable anyway. (+75$)

3. You can save a bit on PSU, Corsair CX500M or even better without M (non modular) should done it's business too (38A 12V rail so NP). (+30$)

4. Get normal non-gaming keyboard (specially not Razer WannabePROGAMUR!!!1), some classic layout MS KB for 10 bucks. (+85$)

Here you have 272$, that you can spend elsewhere. I would throw 180$ to LCD, getting some 24" non-TN panel. 50$ to Define R4 case, because that's something that will outlast this PC internals. Oh wow, you still have at least 42$ left, then get something like SilentiumPC Fera 2 cooler for around 30$, because it would be shame to use box cooler in R4 case.

eh i've been mostly using a laptop keyboard without one for about 3 years now so i've gotten used to it.
