Bots can't do it. Firstly you can't store these keys as they have to be redeemed immediately else someone else can take them. Secondly there's no web interface or public API to redeem Steam keys, you -have- to do it through the Steam client which a bot wouldn't really be able to do as you'd have to have something interact with the GUI itself, wait for the windows/pages to update, etc. Not to mention if it's trying any old key then the account would get locked out for an hour every time it exceeded 5 attempts.

Whilst bots aren't technically impossible, it would require a -lot- of technical knowledge across several different technologies so it's very unlikely.

I don't see any difficulty in doing that

second to that. No one need to write even one line of code since there are too many UI automation tools available.

People scrape this forum for keys. This is known. Often they don't comment because they can't due to having been permanently suspended for misbehavior (of course, there's a good chance they wouldn't anyway due to being jerks). This is why I always advise against dropping keys in the forum. Not only will they likely go to people you wouldn't want having them, but it also has the unintended effect of increasing load times by rewarding these people for having their bots constantly pulling even more data off the already busy servers, so they keep doing it.

Edit: typo
