Description

The plot:

After finding the root of all 7 deadly sins and snuffing them out of existence, you gathered all their essence and used it to open a new portal.
Upon entering the portal, you find yourself in a seemingly futuristic room.
Waiting for you with a light saber is... wait... is that Shepard with a light saber?

You: Shepard?

Zooze: No. I am Zooze Skywalker.

You: What the F$%C??? Did we not correct time propperly?

Zooze: So it is you i have heard stories of. You are the traveller.

You: Yes, you could say that. What year is this?

Zooze: 2808. The empire is winning the war. I have to fight Garth...

You: 2808?? I have gone that far into the future?

Bear: WAIT. This is important! IS THERE STILL HONEY IN THIS YEAR?

Zooze: ... No... -.-''

Bear: NOOOOOO! :'(

You: ... -.-'' ... Who is the emperor?

Zooze: Nobody knows yet, he hides in the shadows. All i know is Garth Cader is his most trusted Sith Lord.

You: Seriously? Sith Lords?

Zooze: Yes, seriously, GC must not prevail. And...

A Sith Lord all dressed in black appears.

Zooze: There you are GC. You will not escape this time!

GC: (Hwooo) You fool, the dark side is stronger. (Hwooo) You have no chance.

You: Oh boy, i can't even...

GC: (Hwooo) Nobody can!

You: ... That's not what i... -,-''

GC: (Hwooo) Silence, Traveller.

You: Wait, you know who i am?

GC: (Hwooo) Who do you think you've been working for... (Hwooo) All this time?

You: What?

GC: (Hwooo) Thank you for your assistance in correcting the timeline, so that the Empire shall prevail forever.

Zooze: That can't be.

GC: (Hwooo) Oh but it is. Now prepare to die, Skywalker.

Zooze: Never, Cader!

A light-saber battle ensues. The battle is intense and very close.
In one swoop, Zooze almost cuts Cader's head off, but he crouches and tries to run his saber across Zooze's chest.
Zooze jumps over Cader rolling in the air and dodges. They both turn and cross sabers once again. The fight goes on...

Suddenly, everything goes dark, including the light-sabers.

Zooze: GC, you scoundrel, is this your trickery?

GC: (Hwooo) Uhh, no. I can't see either. (Hwooo) And my saber is also powered down.

Bear: Uh... oops.

You: Bear... what did you do? -.-''

Bear: I think i turned off the power.

Zooze: WHAT?

GC: (Hwooo) WHAT?

Zooze: Are you mental?

GC: (Hwooo) Yes, what is wrong with you? (Hwooo) Don't you know how irresponsible it is turning off the power just like that?

Bear: Sorry... :'(

The light comes back up.

GC: (Hwooo) The backup generator! :D

Zooze: Phew! :D

Zooze and GC hi five each other. You scratch your head trying to figure this mess out.

Zooze: Ok, ok, enough of that. Time for you to die!

GC: (Hwooo) No, no, no, evil will win, because good is dumb!

You look at Bear nodding in disapproval and can't help but think Cader might be right.
As soon as you think that, Cader cuts Zooze's arm.

Zooze: Gaaahhhh!

GC: You are a fool, Skywalker, you should have joined the Dark Side when you had the chance.

Zooze: Never! Gaaahhhh!

GC: There's also something you should know before i leave...

Zooze: I don't want to listen to your lies! Gaaahhhh!

GC: Zooze... i am...

Zooze: No!

GC: ...NOT Bear's father!

GC walks into a dark portal.

Zooze: Noooooooooo! Our hope is lost that you will slip up...

Bear: Noooooooooo! I was convinced the Empire had honey...

You: Noooooooooo! I'm stuck with him...

Suddenly, a strange person appears.
You see an orange raincoat with a hood covering most of the head of the person, but some long hair still pulling out of it.
There's also a dress underneath the raincoat and a tiara on top of the hood.

The princess: You must hurry, traveller and sacrifice that furry giant Ewok once more.

Zooze: Steia?

The princess: Zooze?

Bear: But i'm a bear, not an Ewok. :'(

The princess: Kill that half-assed Chewbacca impersonator and you will be able to follow GC into the Dark Portal.

Bear: But i'm a bear... :'(

The princess: Beware though, your way out of the portal will test all your mettle.

Zooze: Do as she says, traveller. If Cader was right and you're responsible for this, you have to set things right.

You: But i found all the 7 deadly sins and snuffed them of existence. Or so i thought...

Zooze: There is an 8th, traveller!

You: What? O.o

The princess takes Zooze's light saber and cuts Bear in half.
You follow GC into the wormhole.

That's still a lot of bruteforcing considering you had to use a capitalized letter and one non-capitalized one... O.o
And get the combination of both right.

Edit: Nevermind about capitalization, itstoohard seems to ignore capitalization on urls too...
Still that's 36x36 combos, that's 1296 possible.

It's supposed to be a somewhat logical solution, so if you find the pattern shouldn't be too hard seeing where you made a wrong turn, but you can also use that time to scavenge for the eggs, i guess. ;)

Tried the Final but 72 and 75 can go in different spots to finish the same routes. I haven't finished it by far but that just seems to indicate there are several solutions. I'll go look for the eggs cos this is not possible for me at the moment. I'll wait till the scripters solve it,... :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Scripts seem to apparently take longer the more markers i add. I'll add 72 as a marker and another one closer to the finish (89) to prevent that as well as a marker to 53, considering what Kota said previously.

But i seriously hope you guys are going by it through a pattern and not just randomly, because if you do find the pattern, it is (no joke) easily solvable.

Nonetheless, considering the effort people made to get to this, i'm going to make it (hopefully) a bit easier with 3 extra markers.

I wrote a script to help me find the solution. My idea was to solve the range between each pair of lowest known number positions sequentially. 1-7 = 4 possibilities...not too bad! 8-14 with the first possibility for 1-7 = 155 possibilities...gutted!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ethan already cracked it, no scripts involved as far as to my knowledge. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Maybe it's just me but I find it very difficult to discern any patterns with only two consecutive number pairs (1-2 and 88-89) and so many possibilities between the other numbers given. I thought I had found something when I asked about the positioning of 14 but I'm having trouble extending it beyond that point.

The main thread states, "P51: Hint unlocked!" - is that the 3 more markers that you added today?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes to P51's extra markers being the added hint, although there are very small hints considering a lot of things in the theme of the whole puzzle-thread.
What i can say is this... there is a pattern of sorts... that you have to repeat till no more moves that way, then make 1 different move, then rinse-repeat.

The pattern should be obvious if you place 1-16 correctly and just clear the rest of the whole board and look at it. ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm still plugging away at this. I added the latest markers to my script and got just 3 possible solutions for 1-89! However, the remaining 11 numbers cannot be placed in the grid cells that are still empty. There must be a mistake somewhere?

It could very well be in my script, although I don't know how it could get this far with a bug - could you please check all the markers one more time?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm probably misunderstanding ... you use the "vanilla" board from the ITH as input for your script -- no extra assumptions -- and have your script place the first 89 numbers, and there are only 3 possibilities for that? ... then one of our scripts is wrong -- I just killed mine at solution #6000 for those first 89 numbers

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Correct - the "vanilla" board with the 17 given numbers. I was getting tons of possibilities, too, until I modified my script to follow this critical rule:

...you have to repeat till no more moves that way...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I hope i haven't misled you more than help you with that comment.
I made that comment, because the folks that added me with working solutions from 1 to 100 that didn't meet the solution were breaking pattern.

This is also why i told you folks that if you try to do it manually it might actually be simpler than using a script.
I solved this myself quite some years ago manually, i just had to make sure that when i made a move that was different from said pattern until repeating it again it wouldn't get me stuck.

An added suggestion, if you feel like you figured out the pattern is... maybe use a 10x10 spreadsheet (5 width, 30 height for instance) and copy-paste it 4x while empty.

Then go about it by 1 iteration at a time...

As in mark the 1st in the 1st box, then copy to the 2nd and make said move, do 2nd iteration, etc.

Should be easier to backtrack where exactly are you moving that gets you stuck and which other logical possibilities might there be.

I honestly hope this helps as much i honestly still believe manually beats scripting (as it was intended anyway). ;)
If however you feel like a script might help you identify the pattern faster, then by all means... :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ok I see ... I think that rule is ... well hard to interpret correctly, to say the least. I solved it in the meantime (well, my script did) and I still don't fully understand that rule. My script did not follow it.
I don't think I can tell you anything else without spoiling ... but I think I wouldn't need to. You have the tools and you are close.
Edit: wrote this before seeing Zooz' comment above. I don't agree with "manually might be simpler", but it definitely is possible ... and it can give you the right ideas for your script.

Nope. But it probably should, see below.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So there are either multiple answers or the rule "you have to repeat till no more moves that way" is incorrect? I am really curious how you narrowed it down from 6k possibilities without implementing that rule.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think that rule is correct, but back then I thought it wasn't. I narrowed it down by not starting from the vanilla board. I manually did the first few numbers (following my wrong pattern rules) and had my script complete it. I actually was lucky that the first of my 8 solutions had the right numbers in the relevant places.

Edit: I hope this is readable, on my phone this comment is 5 letters wide.

I bruteforced the fourth character.. I have no knowledge of SG history, so when I saw that wormhole 4 was about 'famous' usernames, I know I was screwed. I managed to finish 2-6 today thanks to the hint, and thus I completed everything else and forced my way in here. To be honest I think wormhole 4 was not a very good idea as everything else could be solved with common knowledge but that particular wormhole forces you to have existing knowledge of a lot of past SG history. Thanks for leaving the brute force option though.
And thanks for this entire event, in case I didn't mention it anywhere else - such huge amount of work!

Yeah, but 4-1 was still probably the hardest of all of 4... without hints, that is.

The crosswords have some overlapping, and with the added hints, should make some of the names easier to guess.
I've been here for 1 year only as well, so those names are mostly forum regulars, etc. (in the crosswords, that is).

There might be 1,2 names harder to guess, but nothing impossible, imo.
There have been way harder puzzles regarding users in SG. ;)

Not that you needed it for 50 or 51, but if you want to get all the eggs, you might have to. ;)

Anyway, good luck. :)

I had a lot of difficulties getting here: I immediately figured out I what the answers were like, but the first 3 I got were all of the same length as the amount of underscores in the questions. I stared and looked for synonyms for hours to try words with the same length as the amount of underscores. Today I decided to google the 3 answers I already found, and the rest was indeed a peace of cake.

Thanks for the giveaway, but I'll skip it since it's not my cup of tea.

Also thanks for this great puzzle event in case I didn't thank you earlier. I'm really enjoying it. And I appreciate the way of giving hints. Begging for hints won't work, but random hints are appearing now and then. Some of the puzzles are very difficult, but not impossible. Only the username puzzle train took a little too much brute forcing for me, but that's because I'm generally bad at word puzzles and I'm not that active on the forums here.
