It is a good watch, I love japanese movies, but never really got into anime but after seeing the movie I started the anime 2 days ago and am on episode 7/26 so far.
I've watched quite a few movies but not as many as J Dramas , anime and manga that I've read. If you ever need a recommendation on the latter , poke me :)

I loved the anime, finally watched both live action films this year..
Which caused me to grab the fan translations of the original manga (which is ending this year)..
The manga is insanely epic and has evolved things to places that you gotta see to believe.

Basically, there's three phases.
Phase 2 introduces some fun concepts and expands the mythos a bit.
Phase 3 is the equivalent of a summer blockbuster film. It all hits the fan spectacularly :D
