My trusty beloved Logitech G700 that I bought in 2013 is on its last legs. The left and right buttons don't register as well at times, and it's a bit of a pain when dragging and dropping and also in some games. This is the best mouse I have ever owned: it has 13 fully programmable and easy to reach buttons, 5 different user profiles, seamless dpi settings that are changable on the fly, wired and wireless operation with rechargable user replaceable Enerloop battery and a dual mode scroll wheel that can be changed from click-to-click to free spin hyperfast scroll. This is the awesome wheel that Logitech first introduced with the MX Revolution in 2007 which I had prior to this model and I simply cannot live without now. Seriously, there's no going back after using this amazing wheel. I would buy the G700 again in a heartbeat, the only problem is it has since been discontinued and Amazon now carries it for a cool 350 bucks. As much as I love this mouse, my readiness (and wallet) has limits.

My problem is I don't know how I should replace the G700. An obvious choice would probably be Logitech's current top of the line productivity mouse, the MX Master 2S. This mouse has the same ergonomic shape as the G700 and also has that awesome dual mode wheel, but it has less buttons than the latter. I've come to really like my multitude of buttons, which are not only great for gaming but also for productivity tasks like photo and video editing. So I'm not sure if I would be happy with the MX Master.

On the other hand, there are the Logitech G Series mice. Most of these seem to have lots of programmable buttons, but I don't think they have that amazing wheel I talked about earlier. (Or do they? Does anybody know for sure? The website doesn't really say). They also don't seem to have that ergonomic shape I am so fond of that started with the MX Revolution. I don't know why Logitech doesn't make them anymore like they used to and combine the features I want, just like in the G700.

Do you have any advice on what mouse I should get? I would like a wireless mouse if possible with a lot of programmable buttons, an ergonomic shape that fits the hand (it does not need to be ambidextrous, right hand is fine) and that dual mode scroll wheel (or someting of equivalence) that I keep going on about. GIBAWAYBonus points if it looks halfway sensible and doesn't scream PROGAMERRGB2DAMAX!!!1! in its design. I've only used Logitech mice since 1997 (each one has lasted me years), but I am willing to switch for the right mouse.

UPDATE
I have made my choice: After much consideration I decided to go for the Logitech G502 Hero. I had to sacrifice the wireless capability, but apart from that the mouse has everything I want (remember the wheel?) and although I have yet to properly test it in games, I like how it feels and functions in Windows. Some people suggested I fix the switches in my G700 and I might just do that. For now it's relegated to office duty and has replaced my generic no name piece of crap mouse there, so that's cool. Thanks to everyone who chimed in with their comments, I have read every one, even if I didn't reply to them all. Also, here's a fun list!

Have Logitech Performance MX and MX Master. Both are great work working, web surfing etc, but these are rubbish in gaming. So i took G700s for that. I tried G203, but it's a bit small for me and I don't like wires ..

I have a Logitech G502 since summer, and I'm absolutely loving it. It has infinite scrollwheel which is cooll (not sure if that's what you meant by "dual mode wheel). But if you want a wireless mouse, there is the G903, which has the same scrollwheel.

Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum good budget mouse. You should look for a wired mouse if you want to play games.

As someone who used the MX518 for years, I highly recommend trying the G502 if you ever need a mouse upgrade. It has everything I liked about the MX518 in a much more comfortable and ergonomic shape, with many more features. And it's often on sale in the US - I picked mine up for the same price as I paid for my MX518 a decade ago. As much as I liked the MX518 (and previous MX5xx mice), I absolutely love the G502.

I've been using Roccat mice - their list price is expensive, but I've been lucky to find them refurbished/open box for a good price. I've also used a Logitech G602 wireless mouse, which has great battery life and abundant buttons; I don't notice any lag and have had very good luck in general with Logitech mice.

I wasn't crazy about the feel of the dual mode wheel on the MX Master I tried, but if you liked it on the G700, I'd say go for it. It's got a distinct feel you're not going to find on other mice, and my mild dislike of it was just personal preference. I prefer a 'chunky' scroll wheel since I use it for weapon selection when gaming and want heavy stops; when I actually want to scroll more than a couple of lines, I use programmable buttons, either under my thumb or on the right side of the mouse, under my ring finger - I find it a lot faster to page up and down that way than to scroll.

I favor larger mice (the Logitech G20x and G50x were too small for my comfort), ideally with a few extra buttons, and I've become a fan of Omron switches - I've found them very responsive and haven't had any fail on me yet. It's been awhile since I've been shopping around for mice, though, so I don't know whether there are any recent improvements to sensors or switches that someone more up-to-date might recommend.

I'd recommend the G502 because of the shape, many programmable buttons and it has a thumb rest (may not apply to you, personal preference).

Also, there's a guy on youtube reviewing mice, with over 19 years of quake. I recommend you watch his reviews before making any final decisions on the perfect mouse.

I usually get mice with 12 buttons on the side, I love me some hot keys. I don't usually get anything too fancy though, the $35.00 mouse I got from amazon seems to be doing the trick.

I can't speak for wireless mice, but I love my G502 Proteus Spectrum mouse, and highly recommend it. It has the dual mode wheel you're looking for, and it's way more comfortable to hold than the MX518 that I used for years before. I know the G903 wireless mouse also has the dual mode wheel, but I'm not sure about the other wireless mice.

Also, while I normally avoid and scoff at RGB lighting, I actually find it useful on my mouse. I have two profiles - one high-DPI for general desktop use and RTS / 4X style games, and one low-DPI for anything first-person - with different colors assigned to each, thus I can always tell what mode my mouse is in just by glancing down at it.

I understand it's hard to consider anything else once you've had a G700... but after checking around, this pricey little mouse looks like it might be a close alternative (and then some!) spec-wise.

I'm a much simpler man when it comes to mice, I just need a mouse that's comfortable for gaming with decent DPI. I'm currently using the Corsair M95 Pro that's very comfortable and great for gaming, but not for much else. Hope you find what you're looking for. :-)
