Free week just started if you want to try it out. Was really looking forward to trying it after reading some reviews, got very dissapointed. Lvl 7 all quests were generic mmo stuff, weapon swapping with diffrent skills sets gets old fast,
and honestly I dont feel like it does enough better than f2p mmos to warrant 20 euro at 50% sale for a 2 year old game.
Im going to keep playing so i can try pvp.

Posting it here since someone like me might have wanted to try it out.

GW2 is a great game, but the developers recently dumbed down the low levels a lot. If you feel like it's too simple, keep going, it gets better.

Not having a problem with it being simple, just feels so.. generic. Kill some mobs, gather apples etc etc
And the story was rather meh as well, didnt get me interested so far, gonna keep playing though (playing as human, going to try that wood elf race tomorrow)

did you just call the sylvari wood elves? guy pls :D
anyway it won't help much to play other races since the beginning and the leveling are boring as hell (to be fair, they are in pretty any mmos, especially as soon as you have one char at max level). the "heart-quests" are really dumb for the most part, but do everything slowly and stuff while you're on your first char. Try the enjoy this stuff, it will get boring enough as soon as you do it with your 2nd/3rd/... char. But don't let the leveling blind you, there is actually a really fast way to level up (you can get 80 in 1 week easily without much effort in edge of the mist). What really matters is the content at lvl 80. I have to admit however, there is not too much to do in gw2 at 80 in PvE. Everyday Dungeon Running, farming your gear and hopeing for decent drops to make a legendary and so on. But at this point, you will have spend 100h+ in gw2, making it more than worth the price and if you like socialize and have a nice guild and stuff it keeps you playing.
PvP is really good in gw2 imo, but you don't need to level at all for PvP. You can jump in right away, chose your equip without having any disadvantage to other players. try it out, use the button on top of the screen.
I also really like WvW, but you need to play some PvE at last to get good equipment. It's also not so good for rather solo-ish players, well you can roam and 1v1 people but thats somewhat similiar to PvP.
hell this is a long text, i hope somebody even reads it :D

Well I tried other zones, they look nice, but overall already bored of questing, played too many mmos to enjoy it, it has nothing fresh for me, and theres no urge to get to endgame really. Visuals are really nice and the soundtrack, other than that, not much. Getting bugged in the first story quest was nail in the coffin,
defeated the bandit boss, it didnt count it, couldnt leave the inn either, had enough.
Imo overall game is not worth the money, I have enjoyed Rift more and its free. Thanks for the indepth information.

I'd recommend playing in any starter area but the human starting zone to start.

You can make human characters and quest in other races' zones even when overleveled (but your story quests are still dependent on backgrounds). GW2 is flexible like that. It gets more fun at higher levels when you get several alts going, with fancy equipments and skills, etc, as well as new things to do. If anything, GW2 has some of the most convenient systems in terms of inventory, cosmetics, grouping, and crafting. :)

I don't know what features are available in the trial, but if you can, go in the WvW or Heart of the Mists PvP areas and try to find a portal to Lion's Arch, from where there are portals to many areas, including starter zones. I haven't played in a while, so that might have changed somewhat.

PvP and WvW are Level restricted (to 1x afaik), so that won't work anymore. Fastest way to get to other starter zones is to go trough the portal in your home/race city (hoelbreak, groove, rata sum, divinitys reach and the black citadel) to lions arch. the portal is indicated at the map (press M while in the city, it's a purple circle). From there you have portals to every other home city, and in these citys you have to walk out trough the "door" (the white portals) to get to other zones.

e: oh i forgot, wvw is locked in trial (to prevent manipulation and stuff)

'till now i have leveled 6 Chars and i don't really understand why you don't recommend the human starter zone. With every single char i've gone there as soon as i could, just because it feels like it's the easiest zone to complete. Sure, the zone might be the most generic, but if people throw the game away at lvl 7/while in the starter zone, they are idiots anyway.

Right after buying the game and setting it up, I went ahead and started a human character, and was immediately turned off to the game by the seemingly boring and insipid Queensdale setting and decided to quit. I resumed playing much later, and created characters of other races, and was vastly fascinated and attracted to the game by the colorful and quirky visuals (especially in the Metrica Province), spending a lot of time playing many characters. I eventually brought all of my characters through Queensdale, and enjoyed the experiences there. It's just that Queensdale made a poor impression on me initially and I don't want people to repeat my experience and not give the game a decent chance and perhaps miss out on it.

I recently tried playing again but was disgusted what they made of the original game. Pretty dead, also.

If you didnt like GW2 then try Archeage. The queue times were improved so its easier to join a server.
