Sometimes I wish I could hard-reset my life and start again with a fresh setup.
Don't mess it up, Lugum, and thanks for being such an active part of SG.

Already back again internet wise, just all going alot faster then in the windows 95/XP days. Still got a bunch of software left to install though.

And yeah i think most would want that, but with the knowledge of what we know now then, else we will just make the same mistakes again. ;) But then again if we already knew everything then maybe life would just have been dull and not so suprising.

i have faith that no matter how many resets i would get i would just find new ways to screw it up. i would like one reset so i could just go off the rails and just reset to it away. kinda like burning down a village in a rpg then not saving.

i agree reinstalls are alot smother than they used to be. it's always fun finding out you need a different modem driver.

If you read manga check out the Isekai genre, its all about people starting over (normally either being transported to another world, or dying and starting over as a baby with all memories intact). Though sometimes they end up becoming something non human, like a spider, or an undead skeleton.

I try to do this every year too, better to take a day off to patch, upgrade and if necessary reformat everything
than to be have to deal with the stress of a surprise problem.

Yeah normally i just do it quarterly or per half year, restore a backup, update and make a new one, and this pc is only a half year old, but i felt so many programs had a much newer version i just decided to start fresh.
In windows 10 it all goes alot faster then XP and such, that could take half a day just by installing all updates.

So much junk always that gets left behind after you uninstall it, i need to learn to use Revo Uninstaller more. :)

Make sure to backup/copy everything over from your main drive you want before formatting! Some things to check:

  • Steam saves (that aren't in the cloud)
  • Internet bookmarks
  • Program setting files (like if you have Photoshop you don't want to lose any custom brushes)

I also normally unplug all drives that aren't being formatted first just in case something goes wrong during the formatting process.
Good luck!

I always copy the whole user folder, i learned that lesson a long time ago which also includes everything else like bookmarks (Edge has a very difficult location where it's stored).
It won't save the savegames that store itself in the windows register but mweh, usually they are small games.

And unplugging is also better when you make/restore a backup, had it with Acronis in the past that would make a restore sometimes hang itself midway, although with later versions that seemed to have improved.

Thanks.

I'm doing that with my old trusty these days (my gaming laptop). Trying to organize to make the process smooth and flawless is the hard part for me. Hope it all goes well for you too
