I dont think a collection of older fighting games should get an award, they are good ive heard, but its nothing new

I'm a huge fan of horror and I did enjoy Until Dawn and The Last of Us Part 2. Until Dawn is roughly my #11 for horror flix that released in 2025 out of the 24 I've seen so far. If I included horror series in the rankings I would have put The Last of Us Part 2 higher.

Sorry but I may be just weird but reading those new announcements just makes me want to go to sleep so boring - glad pretty derby won though
No idea what this Clair thing was but well done I guess

When Nintendo exclusives still manage to win awards, it makes me question who the judges are.
In saying that, some of these other games don’t appear to be popular enough to have fairly won either… is Fatal Fury the only fighting game that came out this year? Heheh 🤭

You really think what we voted had any say in the actual result is crazy
Comment has been collapsed.
Ha not saying this Clair game was not every bodies clear fav - but how 100% do you prove the voting was legit for anything ever (even I voted for it a couple of times)
Edit: btw I'm sorry if it upsets you I just think voting usually doesn't influence the final result - but then again I'm stupid enough to think this and still vote on things - sorry again if I offended you , it wasn't my aim at all)
Comment has been collapsed.
So it's impossible to prove that a voting was 100% legit. By your flawless logic this results in it being "crazy" to think that the voting was legit at all, despite that you have no proof for that being the case. Bravissimo!
You sound exactly like Trump with his voter fraud claim.
Edit: And that's what always will upset me. By and from anyone.
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest I bet that most people don't care about awards really - as I don't even though they vote same as I did) - you like what you like and sorry about that I never should have called anyone crazy - just fed up with scratch my back and I'll scratch yours in award shows
Well done to all that did win - at least this is far better than let's give Trump an award at that World cup draw show (still not sure why or what he did to get it)

"How are Winners Selected?
Winners are determined by a blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%). Fans can vote for their favorite games on TheGameAwards.com."
Indeed anyone could be part of the 10% of the voting process, but the rest is industry.

^^^ also a few of these games ive never heard of
MoistCr1tikal
Wuthering Waves
Girls Make Games
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
The Midnight Walk

I heard of Fatal Fury cause is at some point its a popular game/franchise,
but its true that when I see (on the show last night) Girls Make Games part I was like "who the F.. are those?"
same for MoistCr1tikal and Wuthering Waves
The Midnight Walk is in my WL, dont remmber how its ends there

way i mostly learn about new games and add games to my steam wishlist was the card events. they stopped doing it and thats about it

I see what other add to wl in feedback from steam. Discover some here in SG. And that all. I see this show 2 times in life, last night and 2017 or 19.... Last night (here was late night) was boring as hell. Watch around 1 hour or a little more, change, come back and watch another 20 min, and went to sleep.

Girls Make Games is not a videogame, it's an organization that helps women get into game design
https://www.girlsmakegames.com/
(never heard of MoistCr1tikal either but the category is "content creator" so it's pretty obvious that's a person and not a game either :x )

i know of the charity, and ive donated to it with humble bundle. just assumed they made a game.
assumed Content Creator of the Year what game that had the most video made of it online by the fans. that should be an award
Comment has been collapsed.
Fatal Fury City of the Wolves is the long awaited sequel to Garou Mark of the Wolves, an arcade fighting game that was beloved... back in the late 90's. Fans have been waiting for a continuation to that saga for over two decades so hype alone could carry it to a win, but from what I heard it's also pretty good.

A shame that the best racing game award was stolen from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Joke aside, COE33 deserves all this.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles winning in strategy and sims though, just shows how stupid it is to let people, unfamiliar with specific niches, vote. They pick that one name they are familiar with and that's it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I bet 90% at least voted for games they haven't played - happens most years with this sort of thing
Comment has been collapsed.
True either this or people say i don't know any and randomly pick one - I missed out voting on half the stream awards because I didn't know any of the people nominated (not saying they shouldn't have been just I personally had not heard of those people) - but sometimes people feel like or are forced to vote in every category in order to vote in the few they really want to
Comment has been collapsed.
Looks like I haven't played single winning game (and don't plan anytime soon). From announcements I am not seriously hyped for any.
Clair Obscur probably deserved to win, heard only good stuff from people, who played it. Maybe I will try it.. in like 2050 when my backlog is beaten.
Bought a key for Obscur as gift for myself, but then changed mind and made giveaway instead. Maybe next year will be mine turn.
Comment has been collapsed.
I wish I had this level of self control. I bought a key for a giveaway but then ended up buying myself a key too when i got forced to work overtime at work so I had a little extra money. I knew it will sit in my backlog for awhile but bought it anyways.

Listen, I'm happy for Clair Obscur winning a bunch of awards, including GOTY. But best RPG? In a year when KCD2 came out?
I guess it's not a proper Game Awards if you don't get at least a bit salty about the results🧂
Comment has been collapsed.
I think Obscur had a huge advantage because it came out on Xbox gamepass so more people were able to play it for basically free. Almost nobody I know IRL has spent the $60 on KCD2.

It is the year of our lord 202X and we're getting another original series Mega Man. Anything containing "Legends" or the letter "X" is but a distant dream relegated to videogame archeologists.
Can't really get hyped for this shit anymore, even as a Mega Man fanboy.
Comment has been collapsed.
A new X entry is unlikely but maybe possible someday if the planets align, a new Legends tho, I don't see that ever happening.
BTW I highly suspect that Pragmata was at some point in early development a Mega Man spin-off, it looks so familiar.
Comment has been collapsed.
Out of everything, the only thing that piqued my interest a bit was Mega Man Dual Override. I don't care about which game won what, a game either calls to me or it doesn't whether it gets an award or not. For example, despite how much everyone loves Clair Obscur and recommends it, I don't want to play it any time soon. No disrespect to anyone either, I'm happy for people who enjoyed it, and I won't critizice the game itself as bad or anything, I just never got that "I have to play this" feeling that I get with other games. Knowing the competition though, it seems logical that it won as much as it did.
Comment has been collapsed.
Most excited for Total War Warhammer 40K given that it is coming up to be the most expansive strategy game among existing Warhammer 40K games of the strategy genre. Second most-interested game is Pragmata given the young girl with high tech skills - older man capable of protecting the young girl dynamic. Also there is a demo out now which I will try during the weekend.
Other announced games look potentially enticing, yet I have not spent time with previous games in their series (unrelated or related to the new games) and/or other caveats explained below.
Lara Croft Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst are promising despite past Lara Croft games having not attracted my attention, but when Amazon Game Studios was mentioned as the publisher that kind of soured my excitement given Amazon's lukewarm progress in the gaming business.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is perhaps announced too early without much gameplay to reinforce confidence the game is developing at a steady pace. The new dev team, Arcanauts Studios, was formed recently in July 2025. A dev team that has no history and might still be formulating a coherent work culture which is knowing the strengths and weaknesses of their own colleagues. While the director, Casey Hudson, has not lead an AAA-size game since Mass Effect 3 (2012) - there is an air of uncertainty overall.
Divinity, or Divinity World, had the most intensive reveal trailer. Will be difficult to find time to play that game as I comfortable say so even though no release date was mentioned! The new (rebooted) Divinity is supposed to be loosely related to Divinity Original Sin 1 + 2, so I would like to start with those two games. I also have other RPG games which I want to enjoy and will take one hundred hours or more each. Especially with Baldur's Gate 3 is still on my Steam wishlist and I know that game keeps going on forever.
The 2025 Game Awards has been one of the better events in the past 5 years with multiple game announcements that actually make me want to buy on day 1 release if things work out smoothly.

Clair obscur deserve everything they got imo, I'm just a bit sad that blue prince didn't get something like debut indie or independent game Honestly except some mandatory cringe moment, and overall industry ad, it was a nice ceremony.
And for the first time Hideo Kojima was barely here, which is a first comparing to previous years (not that I don't like him but he was everywhere in the past shows)

Yeah I feel bad for the actual indie games like Blue Prince because Clair Obscur is great and all but it had tens of millions of dollars in production so maybe they should start making the distinction between small indie studios and massive studios that just have to find a publisher for their game.
Also a bit weird to nominate actors who literally only dubbed another actor's performance for best performance. No offense to Cox or Jennifer English because their voice acting was great but the original actors who did the motion capturing should have been the ones nominated

Stayed up all night in hopes to see half life 3, just to be trolled by Geoff with all the bait he threw in between trailers/awards for like 3 hours or so. He knows people are hyped for a HL3 announcement, he only confirms that there was no announcement at the very end, this felt like a serious slap to the face.
Here i am with less than 90 minutes of sleep because i had to get up at 5:30 AM to go work, thinking i would get some good news after a long time waiting for this game. I'm surprised i'm still awake at this point and not exhausted.
This feels like i got betrayed, cheated, exploited, just for interactivity with the event. I stopped caring about majority of the events, unless there is a game i am expecting to be revealed that could catch my interest, and that game was HL3. I usually just go on about my daily life like i usually do, then watch the game trailers the next day or two or just watch the stream the next day while multitasking.
I'm not saying i disliked what i saw, it just felt unnecessary to bait viewers with fake hopes. We know the game is to be announced soon, it would make sense for the announcement to be made before the new steam hardware hits the shelves but things change, and knowing Valve, Gabe likes to change things nonstop, this is why the term "Valve time" exists.
Out of all the games i saw, i think star wars racer returning was what made me smile, i spent lots of time playing the classic game on dreamcast when i was a kid, it was the only star wars game that i was "addicted" to... Lara Croft tomb raider could have been a surprise if the pre-show portion did not spoil the game reveal. I like to figure out what the trailer is based on initial footage, if i get spoiled before the reveal, it kills the moment, plain and simple. Just saying that this game reveal could have been a second smile, because it is also a classic i played lots when growing up as a kid.
However, the voting side of things, i'm more or less happy to see because i agree with majority of the voting done, at least the important ones directly related to gaming (ignoring esports category). The only one that shocked me was the players voice, was expecting E33 to win that one as well.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, that really sucks.. I woke up at 6am too..HL3 was quite hyped for me personally and my hopes kinda got dashed XDD i feel baited lmao... star wars racer is nice yea <33.. I hate Player's Voice awards tho... Ik wuthering waves is reallllyyy good but they kinda bribed people with gacha pulls to vote for em :// i didnt like that part
Comment has been collapsed.
I had no clue about that bribe portion, i didn't even play the game yet, it does look good. I had a random thought just now, maybe they should separate free to play games from paid games. Make a selection for free to play game awards.
Why do i say this, a free to play game will always be more popular than a paid game, this is also a factor that could impact on the voting big time.
It's not really fair to compare both sides, specially if it only involves players votes, the winner will be obvious considering this stuff. The bribe portion, even if it is true, i don't see it having a major impact on the voting, because people playing the game will be mostly returning/active players, this could impact new players trying out the game. Let's say the playerbase is 10 million players, 9M are active/returning and 1M is new players. Let's say 8M out of the 9M votes are in favour of the game, and then 250k out of 1M, so 8.25M in total. Then let's say E33 has 5M players in total, 4.5M of which vote for the game. These values are random, it's just trying to compare both sides of the coin, a free to play game when it comes to voting, if it is massively popular, it will have higher odds of winning vs a massively popular paid game.
I feel like as time goes on, they need to introduce more award categories like what they did with players voice. There should be a Western/Eastern categories. Because again, western game developing is way more expensive than what we see in eastern countries. This is why we see indie studios being a much better value nowadays in our region than bigger studios. Eastern countries more or less represent that similar effect we see in indie studios around here but there will also be the unfair factor of "western vs eastern" mentality. For example, i think wukong should have won GOTY. Eastern countries are releasing pretty damn good games on a regular basis but i feel like they are being excluded from the awards, that makes it unfair on a global basis. How can someone call a game GOTY if they limit things to a certain point that only some that fit their criteria or agenda, can be nominated for voting. Basically a corrupt voting system, which is nothing new to us adults.

I have to say, that was really boring for a "show" I almost fell sleep at some point and change to a movie...
still wondering who makes those scrips, I have hear "next" like a millon times (there are others word to cennect 2 different thing in a scrip), and "never seen before" in almost every annuncement.. Holly Sh....

Yeah. I don't mind that. This year was just not my cup of coffee. I dislike some parts, like the street fighter movie where one the actor was screaming in a mic, that was just.... Wtf?? He have a mic... Jesus... Hahahaha
It's good to have some place to get hyped for free.... This year just feels "plain" there wasn't a single one that didn't look like reading the script, those forced smiles... Yo know.. just a personal feeling about the show... As a show... Was boring

List of every new game and reveal shown
You have missed my favorite game reveal of the show :(
Order of the Sinking Star
Also some of my favorites that are missing are ONTOS, Coven of the Chicken Foot and Divinity which has the best trailer ever.
Others that I'm not interested in but which were first shown here afaik are Ace Combat 8, Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, Forest 3, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando.
4:LOOP should be in its own category for worst reveal together with Highguard.

The divinity trailer was so gruesome and brutaly murky, it made quite an impression indeed

Clair Obscur deserved every nomination and every win and that's the way I voted. But I'm sad Kingdom come 2 didn't receive any attention. At least other games managed a single win.

As someone who hasn't played Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 , it winning best art direction seems weird. While the individual art assets look good, the game itself looks incredibly washed out and overly foggy/bloomy in every screenshot and video I've seen.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'd disagree here. The whole game is actually extremely beautiful once u get into it!! i think the Best Art direction was definitely deserved. There are hundreds of areas with each with different art style...Like any random direct u look in is screenshot worthy.. i specially loved the overworld... Also considering how the whole game is about love of art and creativity it kinda fits!

I agree ! They max out the "every place a painting" vibe and it works very well, screenshot only don't do them justice

E33 is simply an amazing game. I don’t usually play turn-based games that much — aside from Pokémon when I was a kid, and Persona 5 Royal last year mainly for the music and story (though it felt a bit grindy to me).
It was actually the same case with E33: I picked it up after hearing the OST, and once I played it… wow. All I can say is that it truly deserves every award it’s received.

I don't get why E33 wins the best indie when Silksong is there

It seems i missed ONTOS, Coven of the Chicken Foot, Divinity, Ace Combat 8, Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, Forest 3, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando. Thank you for pointing that out Makki <33
ngl it’s crazy how much was packed into a single show. Expedition 33 sweeping almost everything felt like witnessing the birth of the next big franchise (I hope atleast… cuz damn i need another game like that). And also the so many nostalgic revivals (STILL NO HL 3😭), massive sequels, and weird experimental stuff made the whole night feel like a preview of where gaming is headed in the next couple years.
Also i am very surprised Silksong won only Best Action Adventure. But then again considering most of it’s nominations were against Clair i kinda expected it.
So what stood out most to you?
Which winner surprised you?
Which reveal instantly hit your wishlist?
And be honest, did Expedition 33 deserve that GOTY sweep as much as I think it did? (Dont say no pls🤣)
