It seems i missed ONTOS, Coven of the Chicken Foot, Divinity, Ace Combat 8, Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, Forest 3, John Carpenter's Toxic Commando. Thank you for pointing that out Makki <33

ngl it’s crazy how much was packed into a single show. Expedition 33 sweeping almost everything felt like witnessing the birth of the next big franchise (I hope atleast… cuz damn i need another game like that). And also the so many nostalgic revivals (STILL NO HL 3😭), massive sequels, and weird experimental stuff made the whole night feel like a preview of where gaming is headed in the next couple years.

Also i am very surprised Silksong won only Best Action Adventure. But then again considering most of it’s nominations were against Clair i kinda expected it.

So what stood out most to you?
Which winner surprised you?
Which reveal instantly hit your wishlist?
And be honest, did Expedition 33 deserve that GOTY sweep as much as I think it did? (Dont say no pls🤣)

I'm a huge fan of horror and I did enjoy Until Dawn and The Last of Us Part 2. Until Dawn is roughly my #11 for horror flix that released in 2025 out of the 24 I've seen so far. If I included horror series in the rankings I would have put The Last of Us Part 2 higher.

When Nintendo exclusives still manage to win awards, it makes me question who the judges are.
In saying that, some of these other games don’t appear to be popular enough to have fairly won either… is Fatal Fury the only fighting game that came out this year? Heheh 🤭

Edit: btw I'm sorry if it upsets you I just think voting usually doesn't influence the final result - but then again I'm stupid enough to think this and still vote on things - sorry again if I offended you , it wasn't my aim at all)

So it's impossible to prove that a voting was 100% legit. By your flawless logic this results in it being "crazy" to think that the voting was legit at all, despite that you have no proof for that being the case. Bravissimo!

You sound exactly like Trump with his voter fraud claim.
Edit: And that's what always will upset me. By and from anyone.

Well done to all that did win - at least this is far better than let's give Trump an award at that World cup draw show (still not sure why or what he did to get it)

"How are Winners Selected?

Winners are determined by a blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%). Fans can vote for their favorite games on TheGameAwards.com."

Indeed anyone could be part of the 10% of the voting process, but the rest is industry.

Fatal Fury City of the Wolves is the long awaited sequel to Garou Mark of the Wolves, an arcade fighting game that was beloved... back in the late 90's. Fans have been waiting for a continuation to that saga for over two decades so hype alone could carry it to a win, but from what I heard it's also pretty good.

A shame that the best racing game award was stolen from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Joke aside, COE33 deserves all this.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles winning in strategy and sims though, just shows how stupid it is to let people, unfamiliar with specific niches, vote. They pick that one name they are familiar with and that's it.

True either this or people say i don't know any and randomly pick one - I missed out voting on half the stream awards because I didn't know any of the people nominated (not saying they shouldn't have been just I personally had not heard of those people) - but sometimes people feel like or are forced to vote in every category in order to vote in the few they really want to

Clair Obscur probably deserved to win, heard only good stuff from people, who played it. Maybe I will try it.. in like 2050 when my backlog is beaten.

Bought a key for Obscur as gift for myself, but then changed mind and made giveaway instead. Maybe next year will be mine turn.

Out of everything, the only thing that piqued my interest a bit was Mega Man Dual Override. I don't care about which game won what, a game either calls to me or it doesn't whether it gets an award or not. For example, despite how much everyone loves Clair Obscur and recommends it, I don't want to play it any time soon. No disrespect to anyone either, I'm happy for people who enjoyed it, and I won't critizice the game itself as bad or anything, I just never got that "I have to play this" feeling that I get with other games. Knowing the competition though, it seems logical that it won as much as it did.

Most excited for Total War Warhammer 40K given that it is coming up to be the most expansive strategy game among existing Warhammer 40K games of the strategy genre. Second most-interested game is Pragmata given the young girl with high tech skills - older man capable of protecting the young girl dynamic. Also there is a demo out now which I will try during the weekend.

Other announced games look potentially enticing, yet I have not spent time with previous games in their series (unrelated or related to the new games) and/or other caveats explained below.

Lara Croft Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst are promising despite past Lara Croft games having not attracted my attention, but when Amazon Game Studios was mentioned as the publisher that kind of soured my excitement given Amazon's lukewarm progress in the gaming business.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is perhaps announced too early without much gameplay to reinforce confidence the game is developing at a steady pace. The new dev team, Arcanauts Studios, was formed recently in July 2025. A dev team that has no history and might still be formulating a coherent work culture which is knowing the strengths and weaknesses of their own colleagues. While the director, Casey Hudson, has not lead an AAA-size game since Mass Effect 3 (2012) - there is an air of uncertainty overall.

Divinity, or Divinity World, had the most intensive reveal trailer. Will be difficult to find time to play that game as I comfortable say so even though no release date was mentioned! The new (rebooted) Divinity is supposed to be loosely related to Divinity Original Sin 1 + 2, so I would like to start with those two games. I also have other RPG games which I want to enjoy and will take one hundred hours or more each. Especially with Baldur's Gate 3 is still on my Steam wishlist and I know that game keeps going on forever.

The 2025 Game Awards has been one of the better events in the past 5 years with multiple game announcements that actually make me want to buy on day 1 release if things work out smoothly.

Yeah I feel bad for the actual indie games like Blue Prince because Clair Obscur is great and all but it had tens of millions of dollars in production so maybe they should start making the distinction between small indie studios and massive studios that just have to find a publisher for their game.

Also a bit weird to nominate actors who literally only dubbed another actor's performance for best performance. No offense to Cox or Jennifer English because their voice acting was great but the original actors who did the motion capturing should have been the ones nominated

Stayed up all night in hopes to see half life 3, just to be trolled by Geoff with all the bait he threw in between trailers/awards for like 3 hours or so. He knows people are hyped for a HL3 announcement, he only confirms that there was no announcement at the very end, this felt like a serious slap to the face.

Here i am with less than 90 minutes of sleep because i had to get up at 5:30 AM to go work, thinking i would get some good news after a long time waiting for this game. I'm surprised i'm still awake at this point and not exhausted.

This feels like i got betrayed, cheated, exploited, just for interactivity with the event. I stopped caring about majority of the events, unless there is a game i am expecting to be revealed that could catch my interest, and that game was HL3. I usually just go on about my daily life like i usually do, then watch the game trailers the next day or two or just watch the stream the next day while multitasking.

I'm not saying i disliked what i saw, it just felt unnecessary to bait viewers with fake hopes. We know the game is to be announced soon, it would make sense for the announcement to be made before the new steam hardware hits the shelves but things change, and knowing Valve, Gabe likes to change things nonstop, this is why the term "Valve time" exists.

Out of all the games i saw, i think star wars racer returning was what made me smile, i spent lots of time playing the classic game on dreamcast when i was a kid, it was the only star wars game that i was "addicted" to... Lara Croft tomb raider could have been a surprise if the pre-show portion did not spoil the game reveal. I like to figure out what the trailer is based on initial footage, if i get spoiled before the reveal, it kills the moment, plain and simple. Just saying that this game reveal could have been a second smile, because it is also a classic i played lots when growing up as a kid.

However, the voting side of things, i'm more or less happy to see because i agree with majority of the voting done, at least the important ones directly related to gaming (ignoring esports category). The only one that shocked me was the players voice, was expecting E33 to win that one as well.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I had no clue about that bribe portion, i didn't even play the game yet, it does look good. I had a random thought just now, maybe they should separate free to play games from paid games. Make a selection for free to play game awards.

Why do i say this, a free to play game will always be more popular than a paid game, this is also a factor that could impact on the voting big time.

It's not really fair to compare both sides, specially if it only involves players votes, the winner will be obvious considering this stuff. The bribe portion, even if it is true, i don't see it having a major impact on the voting, because people playing the game will be mostly returning/active players, this could impact new players trying out the game. Let's say the playerbase is 10 million players, 9M are active/returning and 1M is new players. Let's say 8M out of the 9M votes are in favour of the game, and then 250k out of 1M, so 8.25M in total. Then let's say E33 has 5M players in total, 4.5M of which vote for the game. These values are random, it's just trying to compare both sides of the coin, a free to play game when it comes to voting, if it is massively popular, it will have higher odds of winning vs a massively popular paid game.

I feel like as time goes on, they need to introduce more award categories like what they did with players voice. There should be a Western/Eastern categories. Because again, western game developing is way more expensive than what we see in eastern countries. This is why we see indie studios being a much better value nowadays in our region than bigger studios. Eastern countries more or less represent that similar effect we see in indie studios around here but there will also be the unfair factor of "western vs eastern" mentality. For example, i think wukong should have won GOTY. Eastern countries are releasing pretty damn good games on a regular basis but i feel like they are being excluded from the awards, that makes it unfair on a global basis. How can someone call a game GOTY if they limit things to a certain point that only some that fit their criteria or agenda, can be nominated for voting. Basically a corrupt voting system, which is nothing new to us adults.

E33 is simply an amazing game. I don’t usually play turn-based games that much — aside from Pokémon when I was a kid, and Persona 5 Royal last year mainly for the music and story (though it felt a bit grindy to me).

It was actually the same case with E33: I picked it up after hearing the OST, and once I played it… wow. All I can say is that it truly deserves every award it’s received.
