so I am planning to buy my first car. I don't know ANYTHING about cars. I just know how to drive it. (kinda)

I am probably asking the wrong crowd, but I don't go to any other discussion board/forum

so....

What should I look for when buying a car?
What should I be careful of?
Finally, once I check the car, what should I do? (It's a solid piece of metal that takes me places, what should I check?)

I want a 4 sitter car that doesn't use a lot of gas. no more, no less.

Thank you in advance for answering, I really appreciate it.

Thanks, I've decided to not buy it online. I've also learned a thing or 2.

I know how to drive it. I got my license a few months ago, I just wouldn't consider my self a "pro".

The best car advice I ever got I will share with you: make friends with a car guy/gal, and ask them to help you.

Also, I don't envy first-time car buyers right now. There are no cheap cars. My first car cost $100 in 1996. That's only like $150 after inflation. It was an eight year old econobox piece of shit, yes. But go to an independent used car lot now and you choose from eight year old econobox pieces of shit for $8000.

Craigslist for cars is like Craigslist for women. You never know what you get until you get it and then you are stuck with it.
Best to do it the old school way and drive down the road, picking up what you see.

I don't know much... Check for rust on the rocker panel and most of the exposed parts under the car. Check the tires and see if the threads are still fine (changing two sets of new tires will cost you roughly $400, you don't want that...).

I recommend finding a friend who knows a bit about cars and take them with you whenever you go check out some cars.
