Do yourself a favor and stay away from stalker if you think bioshock is an example of a "standard" FPS, it's not the kind of games for you. That being said, it's probably one of the most immersive FPS series ever especially if you get some overhaul mods, play them if you a rewarding and atmospheric experience

It has one of the most incredible atmospheric setting and it's not a standard FPS because it doesn't hold your hand all the way in like bioshock and it's very gritty. It rewards exploration and conservation of ammo, food and health kits, if you are playing at a high difficulty there are strong survival elements. It also has a great replay value. It's a love it or hate it kind of thing.
Also there are many mods that greatly amplify the experience. The first one is the best overall imho and it had the best mods, clear sky was buggy as hell but still good. The last one (CoP) is the most "complete" vanilla-wise and bug free one.

First one (SoC) atmosphere is great.
Play vanilla first, 2nd playthrough with one of the complete overhauls.

By far the best atmosphere and immersion I have ever seen in a video game. They're pretty hard to get into, but luckily the awesome modding community has fixed most of the major issues.
I'd recommend downloading this if you plan on playing Shadow of Chernobyl first.

It's fun, and it's not easy. Not COD-like FPS where everything you shoot will die. In Stalker, you have to aim for the head and the head only.

Fantastic. People say to play with the complete mod, but I've never played any of the series with mods and I'm not complaining. If you're interested in story enough, or just intrigued by the inspiration and universe of the game, I recommend Roadside Picnic. I guess the movie is also amazing (it's a Tarkovsky, if that means anything to you). Has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's kinda good.

I only played the first one, but I liked it a lot. The atmosphere can be really creepy, I remember how I went down into some kind of radioactive sewer and was attacked by an invisible monster. Doesn't sound very scary, I know. But the sound effects, the lighting and the invisible monster pushing around barrels and other stuff like a Poltergeist were one of the scariest moments I ever had in a game. Plus it has semi open world gameplay and there is a lot to explore and collect.

Was thinking of picking it up, but first thought I would ask my fellow SteamGifts members! :)
