This is earlier than I expected, I'm not ready with the plane post yet.

Goodnight and have a safe flight!

So instead of doing a plane, Tonight I’m doing a plane Incident. If you prefer a plane, Here’s the Bücker Bü 181, a single engine trainer plane for the Luftwaffe in WWII.

Lufthansa Flight 181

Lufthansa Flight 181 was a Boeing 737–230 Adv aircraft named Landshut that was hijacked on 13 October 1977, by four members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine who called themselves Commando Martyr Halima. The objective of the hijacking was to secure the release of imprisoned Red Army Faction leaders. On 18 October, the aircraft was stormed by the West German counter-terrorism group GSG 9 in Mogadishu, Somalia, and all 86 passengers rescued. The rescue operation was codenamed Feuerzauber (German term for "Fire Magic"). The hijacking is considered to be part of the German Autumn.

There ain’t a lot of media about this event in English , You’re pretty much stuck with the Black Ops episode unless you speak German.
The hijacking and rescue was also portrayed in the Black Ops television series, season 2 episode 6, titled "Operation Fire Magic".
The hijacking and the hostage rescue operation were portrayed in two German television films: Todesspiel (The Death Game) in 1997 and Mogadischu, directed by Roland Suso Richter, in 2008.
The song "122 Hours of Fear" by the Screamers recorded in 1978 was inspired by the hijacking.
The song "RAF" by Brian Eno and Snatch (Judy Nylon/Patti Palladin) was created using sound elements from a Baader Meinhof ransom message available by public telephone at the time of the hijacking.

So I’m not going to actually put an overview of the event’s here because it’s too much. I first want to rember Jürgen Schumann, the captain, who was killed in this hijacking. Born in Colditz in 1940, a former Luftwaffe Lockheed F-104 Starfighter pilot. On 16 October at Aden Airport, after being permitted to leave the aircraft to check the plane's airworthiness, he went to talk to authorities. He subsequently returned and was then murdered by terrorist leader Akache. Posthumously awarded the German Federal Cross of Merit 1st class. Survived by his wife and two sons. The building housing the Lufthansa Pilot School in Bremen was named in his honor as was a street in the Bavarian city of Landshut. Buried in Babenhausen in Hesse.

That’s it this time. I’m late and at a loss of how to properly condense this info. I suggest reading the Wikipedia article and watching the black ops episode if you’re interested.

Final Notes

It’s weird, as a guy who’s grown up when I did, to hear about how commonplace things like hijackings and assassination would happen. I grew up after 9/11 so to me, a plane hijacking is almost inconceivable, at least not in a western country. To read about how commonplace they were in the past is almost surreal.

I've actually read about this one briefly in the past! Call it my "aviation accidents and incidents" phase of life. Thanks for the links though, I'll refresh my memory after (or during) work tomorrow :P

Well I'm currently in that phase of life and watch all the air crash investigation episodes I can. This one was confusing to me at first because I got it confused with air France 8969 which was eerily similar. While reading up on that I came across Singapore Airlines Flight 117 and Garuda Indonesia Flight 206 which also panned out pretty similarly.
