I noticed today that they changed T1 prices to 1$/1€/1£. Unusual thing is they changed price of already running bundles, instead of just new ones, like they usually do. The most outrageous though is they applied this to already purchased ones. I bought Sweet Farm bundle T1 for €0.84 on the 22nd, but when I attempted to open bundle page today it says: "Oops! This bundle requires a purchase price of at least €1 to receive content." Is that even allowed to do by law? They denied access to what I purchased by changing the price post-purchase. Thankfully I redeemed my keys before that. The funniest thing is they haven't changed the price of other tiers.

Yes, you redeemed the keys. But Valve can revoke keys after they have been added to an account. The fact that the keys haven't been revoked makes me think this was some accident. Still, contact Humble about it.

Now, if they actually revoke your keys or get in the way of redeeming them, then this becomes illegal. But them just denying you access to the page with redeemed keys is a different matter.

Also, start getting all the documentation in order. Prepare yourself for having to go to Steam support or your bank/cc company if the keys get revoked.

Technically, it isn't just keys, but DRM-free download and OST too, so they still denying content of purchase. The keys haven't been revoked though. So unless they do that, I'd rather not contact them with all that accounts banning going on around. Just in case.

I'd forgot about those bits. So yes, this is illegal.

Also, there are some other things to consider:

  • If Humble are the type of company to ban someone for contacting support, that's something you want to know now.
  • There is a deadline for issuing chargebacks.
  • If they do decide to revoke keys in the future, your records of your attempts to sort things out with their support will be helpful if you need to get someone else involved.

They're not going to revoke the keys because this wasn't a case of someone taking advantage of a price error. It would be illegal for them to do so in this case where people were buying in good faith. =) This was simply a price update by Humble. All Tier 1 were €0.84 up until now. Humble decided that they would change this to €1 from now on, but didn't take into account those who had already purchased Tier 1 of the currently active bundles. They should have applied it to new bundles going forward to prevent this outcome, but meh. I guess whoever did the update didn't think it through.

I have contacted support. I have not been involved in trading or grey market selling of Humble keys, so I have absolutely nothing to fear there about getting banned/suspended. Will see what they say.

It's a bug that they are trying to fix at the moment, so I was right in thinking that this was not intentional.

They have restored access to DRM-free content for me. The Steam keys are still unavailable, but at least I have my library items back. I figure they'll fix it for everyone soon.

Permalink

Ahhh! Now I know what they did.

When they restored access to my library items yesterday, I mentioned not being able to see the Steam keys. But I said it was no hurry since I had already activated them. I got another email saying "Oh you will need those," so they then came up on my account unrevealed. What I didn't realise is that these were new keys, not the ones I had activated on Steam.

Today, when I logged into my Steam account, both games were revoked, but I then just activated the new keys they gave me. To be fair, it might have been the only way they could sort it out.

If it's not sorted in a day or two for you, you should prob contact them about it as well. =)

I never said that I'm sure, I simply stated my opinion on the matter and my opinion is that for me, it doesn't add up, because even if you'd add the tax, it still wouldn't sum up to the amount they're asking for. :)

I was wondering how long before someone mentioned VAT. That was my first thought as well, that HB may be required to report taxes in EU and now have to collect them. Like you, though, I'm just tossing about one possibility.

Still not sure why they wouldn't just wait until the next bundle to start, given the inevitable backlash, but whatever. I have no dog in this fight.

Yeah I know, but if he wanted the 1€ tier and paid 0.84€ for it makes sense he didn't get it, or either I'm missing something and he paid in dollars and didn't cover the full euro?

he means that the bundles which were initially set for selling at 0.84€ Tier 1 are now automatically set to 1€ so when the tries to redeem the keys it asks for the rest of the money.

I'm a medical doctor in Europe. The wage is regulated by law and is the same in the whole country for MDs, it's 550 euros a month. More than half of my income goes to rent, bills, food etc. I don't think every part of Europe should be considered rich.
There are developed and developing countries.

At the same time, average wage for a specialist doctor in Sweden is upwards of 7000€/mo. Cost of living is maximum 2000€ if you live in a big city. Clearly shows that there are big differences in European wages.

Where do you come up with that? The cost of living in America is significantly lower than it is here. (That is according to my neighbour who now lives in America). People who get minimum wage here can barely survive on it, so it doesn't work out any better to be European.

I didn't say that. You just claimed that Europeans are richer than Americans and it isn't true. It's not about the bundles, it's about untrue statements. 16 cent more isn't going to break the bank for most people.

Also, some Euro countries, especially to the east, are much poorer than America. It's not a one-size-fits-all. ;)
