you can't without activating it or at least trying to activate it on an account that already owns the game.

okay, let's make a more clear example:
you own the game "Bad Rats" on your account and you have a Steam key that you think is also "Bad Rats"
Here's what could happen if you try to activate the key on your account:
(1) the key is "Secret of the Magic Crystals" and now you have two crappy games on the account and the key is now used / lost
(2) the key is really "Bad Rats" and the key will remain valid - if it is unused. this means you now know for which game the key is, but if it was already used, you will get the same message as for an unused key (the message simply saying you already own the game)

The short answer is yes. If you use a key for a game you already own you will always get the name and the key will stay the way it was (if it was unused it is still unused, if it was used it is obviously still used). It won't tell you if the key is unused or not.

Depends. If you got the game as gift, any key will be used after trying it. That happened to me with a Fortix key.

I would just like to tell you one thing, please understand I'm saying this with the best intentions- you don't need to open a new thread whenever you have a question. Most of the questions have their answers in the FAQ or someone has already made a thread with the same topic so it's best to first use the "search" option and check if there's an answer to your question in one of the other threads :)

Yes I can see, and it's not a problem, I'm just saying that because I've noticed that a lot of what you ask has already been answered so you don't have to waste time on creating another thread.
As far as I'm concerned- anybody can ask whatever they want, it's not like we're running out of space xD

Your English is better than many people's. I'm glad you make such an attempt to be active on the site. I'm sure there are a few people that you could message on steam if you have a question as well. Feel free to let me know if you wish.

I'm not an expert on these things but i actually think that there is indeed a limited amount of bandwidth a server can offer, so in a certain way, we actually are running out of space so at a certain point in the future cg and the gang might have to increase the amount of...something so they can keep up. I'm only assuming this, so don't take my word for it though xD

Don't do that!
The keys and the names of the games to which they belong will all be in your email.
GMG never shows you the names of the games and their keys on the site, but they tell you exactly which key is for which game in the mail you get when you buy the bundle

Can't you activate unknown keys (that you don't have yourself or don't want) as a Steam Gift?

no, there's no way to convert a Steam key into a tradeable Steam gift

When you enter a code, doesn't it ask you wether to activate on your account (i.e install game) or as a gift for your inventory?

nope.
the only time you get such a question is when you buy something from the Steam store.
keys can bei either redeemed (if key is unused and game not owned yet) or they can not be redeemed (if game already owned or key already used)
