Just built myself a PC for the first time. I was watching Linus Tech Tips build guide whilst building it, and it ended up taking 2.5 hours. The ATX motherboard made it a bit difficult to manage the cable near the bottom (pic below). Here is the specs, it costed AUD$1200, probably a little more than what I had in mind. Any comment/feedback about the specs/cable management is appreciated.

Also it has been one year since I last logged on to this site, so here's a giveaway DiRT Rally 2.0 LVL1

Congrats on your first PC! That's about what I would estimate a good budget to build with for a decent pc.

It looks good to me, I don't have any tricks about those leftover cables sorry.

Congratulations!
Cable management wise, do you have holes near the back of your case behind the motherboard you could thread some of them through? Particularly the Red/yellow ones.
Otherwise for the ones coming out the back of the PC, I just gather them together and use Velcro straps to manage them. Easier to fix instead of cable ties if you need to change something.

For the red/yellow wire going below cpu cooler, originally I wanted it to go behind the motherboard and come out on the left, but it's not long enough ¯_(ツ)_/¯.
And I just tied the red/yellow wire right next to the fan, looks tidier now.

The solution to that is to just get some wire extensions. That way, you can run longer leads all the way behind the motherboard tray (especially in a nice case like that where it's already designed to do so with the cutouts). You can find pre-fab ones pretty cheap (3-pin/4-pin/5-pin fan extensions, etc.), or do it yourself with some basic soldering and heat gun skills with scrap wire.

Congrats on your first build! It's really excellent for your first go at it.

Maybe if there was another fan header you could use?(Maybe at the bottom so it could come out of the PSU shroud). But in any case, the result looks already good enough!

trash talking the specs won't help now that all is built and done. ;P

but at first glance it looks decent. or decent enough if you have a limited budget that is.

don't forget updating the bios if you haven't already. ryzen basically always benefits from the newest bios on the board.
also a decent cpu cooler might be worth the money if this one gets really loud. or hot. or even both.

was this really your first try building a computer? really not bad actually.
good to see people putting linus' tech tips to good use. (see what i did there? hue hue hue)

you could route the wires of the back case fan up to the cpu power connectors, cable tie them behind the mainboard tray and route them back in front of the board to the fan connector. just so don't have that huge ugly cable pack hanging there.
also there are black / black sleeve fan cable extensions. but that's just nit-picking.
though a big window comes with big responsibility.

i guess you can't hide the bottom cables in the psu shroud since the actual psu is in the way?

Thanks for the advice :)
I made a loop with the usb3 cable and everything else fall into place (tbh I was sort of worried about bending the cables too much before)

Damn nice job man,and u hide most of cables well i remmeber when i was doing first build was so scary when i was puting cpu thing what close it and hold was goin a bit hard and on tutorial was ez one i tought i broke it already but didnt... Biggest pain was psu hahaha

2 things which I generally dont like in building PC are (I build one myself rather long time ago, but it is what I remember ;) ):
1) Processor cooling (including putting thermal paste/liquid) especially if I use huge coolers
2) cable management :)

Of course I talk generally not about your pc:).

About your one - personally I would rather use Ryzen 3XXX (but of course 2600 is much cheaper and you will probably still have option to upgrade to even Ryzen 4xxx in the future), but anyway cool that it is AMD system.

Yeah I considered Ryzen 5 3600, but thats another $100. If I wanted to spend more, I'll probably get a upgrade the gpu (to RTX 1660) rather than cpu.

I guess it is good tactic if budget is tight. And as I said you can always upgrade only CPU to future Ryzen 4XXX (it need to be confirmed but ryzen 4xxx will be probably still AM4) when there will be some budget. Also I agree that GPU is more important for games then CPU upgrade.

+1 but might consider buy an extra hdd disk (for the games only). I have a Seagate 2TB (256 cach) for only this purpose. Consider that ARK take about 187 giga!!! Another thing might you need is a fan on upper case to flow air inside. Very well have good play!!!

Why you bought wifi card?

u should take mobo with built in wi-fi.:)

I wanted to write the same. I am in the same position as OP now, need MOBO and WiFi. And grabbing MOBO with Wifi cost the same as MOBO + extra WiFi card. And we get all the perks of having flagship MOBO (like better sound codec, VRM cooking etc).

Asus PRIME B450-PLUS (160 AUD) + Asus Wi-Fi Adapter (60 AUD) = 240 AUD
MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC = 220 AUD

I would also go for cheaper MOBO + WiFi PCI-E card, if I would not be minimalist and start to look for way to minimize number of things inside the case. And only then I realized Wi-FI cards are mostly for people that already have build and need to add WiFi after it's bought.

I was looking online about this. I think the consensus is wifi card is more upgradable and have the same performance. I guess you are right that a more expansive mobo with build-in wifi will be better overall than cheap mobo.

In the end, I didn't really compare the price of mobo with build-in wifi vs mobo+wifi card (I bought mobo first). I always thought only high end mobo have wifi and they tend to be expansive. Had I known that the price is similar...

Did you have any problem to set those RAM sticks to 3200 Mhz? I'm thinking about grabbing the same 2 x 8GB set.

Also I see you hide bottom cables inside the PSU shoud. Nice :D Wanted to write about it, but then saw you already fixed it after suggestion.

I've used Corsair memory for years on many different builds and have never had any issues running them at the stated speeds.

I've also used Crucial and Kingston with great success.

Problem is Ryzen CPUs do not always work nicely with RAM sticks. 1st gen was quite bad at it and some sticks could not be OC at all.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/6gyohp/cmk16gx4m2b3200c16_how_to_achieve_3200mhz/

So it's about CPU + MOBO compatibility with sticks, not the other way around. As the same sticks may run 3200 Mhz easily in Intel setup.

it never hurts to check the mainboard's QVL before buying ram but in general the ram issues are old news.

in spring of 2017 i built a new 1700x ryzen system for my little sister with four 8gb 3200mhz flare x memory sticks. it was pretty much impossible to get more than 2666mhz on the crosshair hero vi board. some time ago i did another bios update, tested the ram again and now the thing runs on 3200mhz no problems at all.

and that 1700x is waiting to be installed in my own rig now because:
for christmas i built her a brand new 3900x rig with crosshair viii hero and four 8gb 3600mhz trident z royal. no problems at all running them at 3600mhz with 1800mhz fclk.

Looks awesome! Congrats on your first build!

It gets easier and faster with each successive one. So now if one of your friends wants to build a PC, you can help them out and be awesome! :)

I'm not sure what feedback you want on your specs - the build is done. Play it and enjoy it! :)

If you're looking for advice for a future build:
If I need WiFi, I would get a motherboard with it built in rather than a separate add-in card - the price is usually the same, and usually you'll get a slightly nicer motherboard in the process.
For power supplies, I love the SeaSonic series for being dependable and silent. They're more expensive but are silent in use, and I have multiple 7+ year-old ones that are still going strong, while other (good) brands tend to fail after 5 years.

I wanted to go with SeaSonic Focus Plus Gold 550W, but it's not available in any shop. I could buy it easily in Poland, but not single shop in UK has this one on stock for 2 months now.

So looks like availability of seasonic is a bit dependent on the region?

Maybe, or it's dependent by model? International availability is outside my area of expertise. :)
