Hey guys, after all those NOT-A-PUZZLE mini-games that you enjoyed so much over the years, I'm making a real game now and would be happy if you tried it out and reported back your comments. Thanks!

About the game:

Run and jump, collect coins, confront enemies and avoid traps, open gates and find secret stashes. It's a simple 2D platformer with a twist: You're not a hero from the castle about to slay an evil dragon, you're a goblin cook working for the dragon! It starts slowly but things get more and more complicated as you go.

Story:

Your master has been robbed by a pesky rogue, and it's kind of your fault. Follow them through 5 different settings, from the dragon's lair in the Fiery temple of Doom, all the way to the Castle Keep, and return the stolen treasure! But beware, the closer you get to civilization, the more dangerous it becomes for a defenseless goblin.

Features:

  • Over 35 levels filled with enemies, traps and secrets.
  • Unique game mechanics for every world.
  • World map - know where you're going!
  • Two difficulty settings (casual & old school).
  • Ability to save & continue later, for casual players.
  • Keyboard (You can rebind the keys) and gamepad support.
  • Cool music by Kevin MacLeod

Demo:

A free demo is available and it features the initial two worlds, so you can get acquainted with the story and mechanics very well. If you decide to buy, your save should work in the full game too! Demo is updated regularly so it's always compatible with the latest version of the game.

Really simple and cool game you got there.

But it is too fast, my head starts hurt in the first minute.

Sorry to hear that.

If you have any other comments (about graphics, story screens, what little gameplay you did manage to see before your head started to hurt) feel free to post.

I do not like the "autograb" in the wall, may if you change that to hold a button.
(i'm not english native, hope you understand what i mean)

I understand what you mean, but it would not be practical gameplay-wise in the later stages where it's critical for the player to grab the ledge. It could irritate a lot of people if they had to do it...manually.

Perhaps make it an option then.

I enjoyed it so far! Managed to beat the first boss i thought the rogue had become that big stone head!
It seems pretty cool, honestly. I've seen much worse out there on steam...
What i would suggest so far:

  • Better music, i guess? The first world music was kind of boring and too quiet, I could only hear the goblin go "Noo!" over my awful platforming skills
  • Maaaaybe a victory fanfare for bosses? I was surprised when the cool boss theme was starting to get all pumped up then suddenly stopped when i beat the boss. Some fanfare that tells the player "Heeeey, you did it!" would be pretty nice :D

That's all i can really come up with so far, but honestly what do i know? I'm just a nerd who likes playing games, I've no idea what's it like making one! So i just wish you the best of luck in your project :) I'll go ahead and finish up the second world !

Did complete the demo. The only suggestion that I have is if its possible to either have options to rebind the keys; or change them to A and D for left and right, space for jump and enter for going through the doorways. For me, the arrow keys force me use my right hand which is not the hand that I'm used to for movement and the use of the up arrow for jumping while trying to move left or right at the same time causes imprecise jumping.

I plan to have the option to rebind the keys before beta. We'll see if I'll know how to do it, lol.

Rebinding has been implemented, check the newest demo to see for yourself and if it's working to your liking.

I just played through the demo a second time after the ability to rebind the keys. It was a lot easier. Thanks for adding that. One other thing you might want to add in is a timer or an option for a timer. Some people like to speed run platformers.

It's nice to see a game from a member! Not someone who just registered to promote a shitty greenlight game, but an actual member! Will download later and leave my two cents after playing. :)

Aha, neato! :) Bump... :)

Stumbling into secret passages was fun, but I don't play enough of this type of game to know if that's a common thing... I think it's always interesting to find hidden areas, though... :)

Unfortunately I'm completely incompetent playing platformy games so I couldn't finish it... :( Eventually reached "goblin managed to defeat the golem king" but either my fingers or my brain don't work fast enough to get beyond that... :( Oops, died again. Oops, died again. Oops, died again. :) Oh well. :)

Is there any way to save currently, or should I just leave it running in the background until I feel up to trying again? :)

Hope you can get it on Steam, since it doesn't look any worse than the endless flood of Unity asset store "games." I know I've paid more and received less... :)

Although I wonder if the Steam greenlight process will change after Valve shut down that guy selling votes from his 500 bot army... There's probably a whole circus of them, and they only caught one clown...

No save for now, but I'm thinking of including "save and quit" in the esc menu, and then "continue" in the main menu for playing in multiple sessions.

Sounds helpful for the incompetent like me... :) Unfortunately I was trying more of Littlewitch Romanesque over the weekend instead, forgot about the little goblin guy... :( Also pretty bad at that game too... :)

Hmm, looks like your giveaways ended, so have a completely useless bump now... :) TIS-100 was a lot of fun, if I'm remembering correctly, but as usual I got distracted and didn't finish it... Hopefully the winner likes thinking or forum puzzles or assembly language... :)

I'm planning on trying, but not before I have all the levels completed and ready for alpha/beta release. Until then I'm trying to see if the people like it and if they would vote for it on Greenlight and so on.

well i really like it, thje premise is pretty good and the gameplay reminds me lot of those old apogee (3d realms)games like hocus pocus for some reason, so you have my vote :D

no you got that wrong, quickly release it as early access and add cards. Then change camera perspective and call it a sequel and make even more cardz profitz (^▽^)

Haha, that would be a great plan if I was after profits. I'm actually trying "no crowdfunding", "no bundling", "smaller discount with every major update so early buyers get satisfaction", "all updates and additions free" approach.

Yeah, I don't expect it to sell nearly as much as bundled games, but no one plays 99% of those anyway, so I'd rather have less buyers who actually play the game because they find it interesting. Also it's a great learning opportunity for me, in pixelart, gamedev and marketing, so however it goes, the next time it will be better I hope :)

I played it a bit and found it pretty competent. The controls felt tight and responsive, the level design seemed pretty good but it didn't really have anything that would make it stand out in such an oversaturated genre.

Good luck with the game and hopefully you get it on Steam as it seemed better than most games that get through greenlight nowadays.

Bit sleepy, but gave it a quick try so bear with me:

  • I like it! I also think the background story is something completely different as the basic go rob this dragon games.
  • Goblins \0/ :D
  • ...I'm secretly wondering how a showering dragon would look like.
-Does the first bat you fly into, in the same level as the first flying elephant, REALLY say 'Fly noob'? or is that my imagination?

Overall, I didn't complete the demo because I'm quite sleepy but the way it looks now it looks like a lot of fun.
It also already feels better/more complete as a few early acces/steam games I've got in my library

Close, but no - goblin says "a flying nope"...

Every time you "meet" a new monster you get something like that. "mud person" for golems, "spooky mr skeletal" for skeletons, "a big nope" for jumpers and so on.

Well it kind of is early access (pre-alpha until I finish all the levels then alpha for testing and improvements and new details and then beta for final testing and then release candidate and if everything is OK, release/gold) but I did not want to release a demo until I have something worth showing, you know.
