I don't give a crap about that. I know it's supposed to imply the level of engagement the game creates, and thus its value as entertainment, but come on...

I guess I'm saying, "come on, find a better way to present the game," although I don't have an outright better idea, ATM.
Playtime won't sway me in one direction or the other to buy a bundle. I'd look at the merits of each game individually, and whether or not the game would appeal to me, personally (or a friend).
One might argue that average playtime is a better metric than say, Steam's somewhat Rotten-Tomato-esque user review score, but it's not exciting at all.
It's obviously not a big deal--I just found it a little odd and not particularly helpful, that's all. I probably should have formulated a more complete idea before posting.

Personally, I sort of like the idea and I'm not sure it's at the expense of other information. Though I'd actually prefer that on more arcade-style games and roguelikes and such. Sims and strategy games are going to have really high playtime but I'm with you in wondering what I'm supposed to get out of that. Of course they do.

I find it a fair empirical measure of the game's merits and value. You don't play a game for 10+ (or 100+) hours if you don't like it - Skyrim reviewers notwithstanding. ;)

Yeah, I just think that any marginally good strategy game or sim game is going to have very high playtimes because of the nature of the play.

And you're absolutely right. A playtime of 3 hours for a Total War game, for example, would actually be a bad sign. But still, would you play a bad strategy game for 60 hours?
