Hey everyone,
I want to build my own gaming pc and im picking parts. These are the important parts:
-MSI Z170A Gaming m3
-Intel i7-6700k

Now i need a graphics card and recently the GTX10 series were released, since they are new they are stil a little hard to get here (The netherlands) but ive noticed there are 2 variants. A 3gb or 6gb Vram version. The difference is 110 euros (Both MSI Gaming X) between those and im trying to save a little money. So how important is the 3gb Vram difference? A little advice would help :) Thanks! (Sorry no ga for now)

UPDATE:
Found this: ASUS TURBO-GTX 1060-6G its a lot cheaper then MSI but has a weird cooling prop compared to MSI, does anyone know anything about it? TY :)

VRAM 3 or 6?

3GB
6GB

Think about the future, there are other differences besides the VRAM.
Whatever you can afford, but I would pick a 6600K + 1060 6GB over 6700k + 1060 3GB

Yes, but my main issue with the i5 is the fps difference on arma 3 compared to the i7. I will also be using the pc for modelling, rendering music production and video editing. so i guess an i7 is a lot better for that, or am i wrong?

Pick a non-K 6700 instead. You can save money by doing so and the performance gap is really not worth talking about. Also, the 6700 has TXT and consumes less power than the 6700K.

The difference is 20-30 euros for 3.4-4 or 4.0-4.7 so i wont save a lot of money there, but ill look into it, thanks!

Could go the other way around: keep the 6700k, but get a H170 mainboard instead.
6700k has a nice rate to begin with, and is worth the extra price either way (OC or no OC).
Instead of MSIs 6GB version, you could also look into models from Gainward, Gigabyte, EVGA, they're around 300€ atm.

I will overclock the i7, i found this: ASUS TURBO-GTX 1060-6G which is a lot cheaper then the MSI Gaming X but im not sure if it will be cool enough.

That's an FE card, GTFO :P
Go check out the Asus Strix, Gainward Phoenix, Gigabyte Windforce (/Gaming). They're all cool and silent, and cost around 300€.

Depends on your monitor resolution, if you run mods, if you plan on VR, etc.

Arma 3 specific benchs

TL;DR
<= 1440 3G OK if no mods or VR
=> 1440 6G with mods or VR

-Intel i7-6700k

Go with an i5 6600K instead of an i7 6700K, unless you're doing graphics/video editing or have a job where you need to do a lot of heavy calculations in general. Use the price difference to get the 6 gb card. If gaming is what you're going to use your PC for, the processor is the wrong part to splurge on, the graphics card is where the difference is made.

Ill use blender a lot for creating animations and ill probably use it for video editing. So its a 50/50 thing with gaming and heavy calculations :)

Then save some money, wait for the GPU's with triple-fan to go down in price and pick now a i7-6800K instead?

The i7 6800k is a little too expensive, the 6700k should be good enough for now, ill wait for the GPU prices though, thanks!

my advice about graphic cards :

don't buy the best of the market, why??? easy, they are expensive and all the games can run at maximum whit a less powerfull graphics card.

i always do the same whit my PC
1-invest a lot on CPU and motherboard
2-buy a very decent graphic card
3-buy new a very decent graphic card 2 years later
4-repeat the process 2-3 all time until your PC die or 8-10 years passed

whit that you will save money and you will get always will play at maximum graphics the games.

Thanks! That is basically what im doing xD The 1060 is pretty new and pretty cheap for its speed but certainly not the best on the market, i just cant decide if i should take 3 or 6 gb :)

well i voted 6GB because more Gb are better but 110$ its a lot.

check if whit 3 GB you can play all games at maximum, if you can, then save than 110$ for the next graphic card you gonna buy later

but if you want 4K resolutions and 5000000 fps in each game you play then go for 6 GB because it's better :P.

if you only care about have maximum graphics in all games whit a minimum of 60 fps then 3 GB should be enough (however will be good to know the rest of the PC you gonna buy it or have it, then more expert people can help you because i'm not an expert i always call for help when i need to buy a new PC)

GTX 1060-3GB is NOT a 1060-6GB with only 3GB
They kept the same name on purpose...

it's called fraud. :P the 3G has less CUDA cores than the 6G so it's not the same card. :( (1.280 6G intead of 1.152 of the 3G)

less texture units, less everything, THE VRAM IS LESS THAN 3.5 FUCKING GB, SHAME ON YOU NVIDIA

I'd go for i5 + 6 GB GPU if your PC will be for gaming mostly. I7 for video editing or 3D rendering.

My GTX980 hits 95% of its 4GB running Fallout 4, which is not a very demanding game. Pick the 6GB one.

Get the 6GB version of the GPU and ignore anyone telling you to downgrade the CPU.
If you can afford the 6700K and a Z170 - GET IT.

Unless you're on a tight budget, my advice is always get the best you can afford when you can afford it when it comes to building a new PC.

More VRAM = More detailed textures (generally)

3GB may not be enough to get high/ultra settings on some games. I'd get 6GB just in case.

1) Don't buy an i7-6700K for gaming.

2) Get an i5-6600K instead.

3) Get a GTX 1070 for the money you saved.
