If there's something that confuses me, it's what is needed to complete the Hitman series.
I grabbed Hitman 1 from the free promotion (which seems to be everything minus outfits and Patient Zero) and Hitman 2 from Humble Choice (base game). Do I need the expansion pass for Hitman 2 to get everything? I also do achievement hunting so I wouldn't want to miss out on achievements either...

Someone made a guide for Hitman 2 that explains all the different versions, not sure about the first one.
As for achievements, one issue is that all the Hitman 1 achievements are duplicated in Hitman 2 for the legacy stuff, so you have to do them all again... 😣

Doesn't look like the free Hitman 1 game gives access to the legacy stuff, maybe because I'm missing the outfits and the bonus episode? So to get everything, I need to complete my Hitman 1 collection which should give me the legacy stuff for 2, get the expansion pass for 2 for some extra content, and play it all through my Hitman 2 copy while ditching Hitman 1 completely? Jeez, what a mess. Not putting these games high on my backlog priority list for sure.

yes, there are different editions, before the sold Hitman Complete DLC separately, but now it's only GOTY or it's upgrade from not-buyable edition
EDIT: that's why I love Hitman episodic thing, you can basically download game as low as couple GB (meaning you can download 1 location if feel that way)
EDIT2: I have download H2 + Expansion pass + Legacy (without GOTY stuff), whole thing takes ~150GB away from my drive

You have to run Hitman 1 (online) first so the servers know you own it and it gets unlocked in your account for Hitman 2 (you don't automatically get the DLC in Steam just for owning Hitman 1). Yeah it's a PITA having to download 65 GB just to run the game ans uninstall.

Actually, I think you'll have to download and run Hitman 2016 (in online mode, RIP privacy) so that IO can add the Hitman 2016 DLC to your Hitman 2018 when you open the latter (in online mode again, hurray for privacy and screw GDPR).

I suggest he tries and tells us. On my side, I had to do this, as running just H2018 didn't give me the H2016 contents until I did run H2016 (and both in online mode)

Tried it, the game told me it downloaded extra levels while I was during the intro mission and indeed they all showed up in the menu, so in my case it worked without ever running the first game.

To be honest. They could not make it more complicated... it is not a scam but looks like. Consumer has to know everything about game and complicated packs etc. Too be honest still dont understand all the differences ;). That is why i even dont try to understand it or buy anything;).
BTW: IMHO if Steam allows such situations should do it right from their side to not charge someone for nothing if he dont understand all the versions names.

But buying 30% of content for 65% of price - i'm not sure...
Maybe those 2 locations from Expansion Pass are extremely good and they are deserve x2 higher price ?

yap, feel same way, I remember times when what-ever-named Pass was only 20$/€, if somebody price it 30, there were a lot furiosity, but nowadays, most are 40$/€, yet content is not greater (if not worse)

Also, for non-owners - gold edition is wiser than base game + expansion game, if you're 100% sure you want to get complete experience (cause you saw more than few cents)
