I had a aneurysm on my brain: Link

The 12th episode was great and I'm sure the next will be good too, but I can't help feeling extremely disappointed that it's the last episode (I've just now found out). The simple fact is that for the whole show they tease the audience constantly with Merlin's secret almost being discovered and then don't have his secret revealed until the final episode. I hoped to see the secret revealed, and finally see Merlin and Arthur working together, properly, but it looks like that won't be happening.

A lot of the character 'development' that occurred this season happened over the course of a single episode. The writer's for this show just did a sloppy job and made it more episodic than it needed to be. Even more damning is that they said they planned it to be a 5-season run all along source, and yet it feels like they ran out of time and crammed too much into a single season. Quite frankly, it's baffling because they're not even ending it due to bad ratings.

Mordred turned evil because a random lover appeared and broke the law - she should have at least appeared in the show at some point before, if he really loved her wouldn't he have been seeing her? This is a perfect example of something that could have been drawn out over half of the season and would have made more sense if done that way. Imagine that, perhaps, there was some drama with him missing her and having a long distance relationship via letters or something along those lines. Furthermore, they could have shown some drama with him leaving her in the beginning of the season - I'm sure that would have been difficult.

The Queen's brother randomly appears in one episode of the season to get himself killed by a floating sword, but we don't see her grieving in any subsequent episode. Even considering the fact that she was enchanted, this bugs me a lot. There's not even a single reference to her brother in any other episode. The entire sub-plot with Morganna using the Queen was a waste of time and poorly executed.

It was an entertaining show, but every time I watched it I constantly felt like it had so much potential to be better. Even as I was watching the last few episodes, I was thinking about how much I looked forward to Morganna being defeated this season and seeing a new villain in the next. Now that I know it's over for good.

If anyone knows of any other shows that might fill the void of this one being over, I'd appreciate any recommendations.

I really liked the first 4 seasons that I watched. I've been intending to watch the last one but other shows got in the way. However, towards the end of the fourth season, the political and social settings of the show started to change dramatically. I wonder if I will like all the changes in the last season or if the show will differ too much from what I came to love in the first 4 seasons. As far as concluding the show in poor manner, which I haven't seen yet, perhaps they were given late notice of being cancelling or they had too many items to wrap up and felt compelled to address them all.

I used to watch a random episode of Merlin every Sunday (Legend of the Seeker too), it always put me into a good mood, I didn't even know it ended, I really should watch it all and in order.

I most clearly remember boobies. Guinnevere was really showing off (^w^)

The series was enjoyable, though I thought there were lots of rather silly parts curiously mixed with the serious ones.

I suppose GoT is pretty good in general.

This is funny timing because I'm in the middle of a Merlin rewatch right now. It's a lot more silly then I remember, but it's still enjoyable. I hated the last season when I saw it, for all the reasons you mentioned above. In season one, Mordred was built up to be such an interesting character. Especially with that dilemma with if Merlin should let him die or save his life. Then when he came back they had the potential to do anything with him. The love interest that appeared out of knowhere was lazy at best.

Also I never liked how you don't really get to see Arthur be king. In season 1 through 3 Uther is king. In season 4, all of Arthur's choices are being decided by his evil Uncle and not him. Only in the last season is he king, but then it's over.

Also my kid self will never get over that stupid scene where Morgana turns Gwen into a deer so she will be hunted by Arthur and his knights. She NEEDED to kill Gwen for all her plans to go through and when she finally can kill her, .she leaves it to random chance instead of running her through.

Other then that I still find the show enjoyable. It has problems pacing it's serious and goofy moments, but it's fun and the characters are lovable.
