This has been a long time problem that I've never brought up, but it is getting increasingly annoying.

How come the synching with Steam is so imprecise? The site consistently recommends and fails to grey out games that I already own. And only a fraction of what is on my wishlist actually shows up in the filtered giveaways.

If there something I need to change? Like a privacy setting or something? I would really appreciate if anyone knows a solution to this! Thanks

The site only auto syncs once per week, I believe. You can manually sync after getting new games though - https://www.steamgifts.com/account/settings/profile

Dunno about the wishlist problem, as it always works for me(other than the fact that most of the games on my wishlist aren't being given away :P)

Most of the games that show up are ones that I've owned for years, so it's a little strange in that way.

I'm sorry then, with it not being what Lugum suggested, I have no idea what would cause that.

It is quite recent. It first changed to every 48 hours on the 12th of September and then to 24 hours on the 6th of October.

It has an issue with (free) games that are removed from the store, you need to filter those manually.

Not always. For example, Stardew Valley has never stopped showing up for me, despite having owned it for over a year.

This is going to be a dumb question, but just in case:
Do you have "Yes" selected under "Hide games you already own?"here.

If that is the case, then I have no idea as I never heard of anyone with this problem. The only thing I could think of then is to manually hide the games that are still being shown, but that shouldn't be the solution to it.

I oddly didn't have that check off! I must not have check my settings in while.
So likely that will solve my problem!!

I guess then the only odd part of it is that when it's ticked off to include games I already own, it doesn't always grey out the ones that I own. In that case, it's a much smaller, much less significant bug.

The ones that still stay are probably the ones that the Steam API doesn't report correctly aka DLC, games removed from the store, game packs, some deluxe editions of games and similar. In that case the problem is on Valves side and there is not all that much that can be done about it. You will need to filter those manually (and make sure you also have "Hide games you manually filtered?" set to "Yes" :P ).

I also have this problem, for example with the game Medieval Mercs (removed from the Steam store).

Somehow it's a annoying, since I don't know each and every game I own - and if you have a few hundred games on Steam, it's possible to enter a giveaway for a game you already have.

PS: I have selected the "Yes" under "Hide games you already own?" - As well as the "Yes" for the DLCs I don't own the base game, which is working fine.
