Hi there, forum!

I'm a big horror fan - both in movies, books, vgs, whatev - so I'm pretty interested in the new Humble Book Bundle that's all about horror, in book and comic form. But... I don't know a lot about most of the offers.
I'm surely going to buy tir1, because I can really spend less than 1€ for some spooky books, but I was wondering if some of you had some opinion about some of those books/comics

Thanks! <3

No obligatory GA (yet?) cause I'm a poor and sad uni student, but I'll look around

I also bought tier 1 from this bundle, and I'm having the same mixed feelings about the other tiers. I think tier 1 will do for me, as I'm not ready to spend the amount required to get the higher tiers on random stuff. I mean, there are anthologies in there which feature awesome writers like Neil Gaiman, but my budget is a tad bit tight at the moment (another uni student here ;) ), so yeah. I took a good look at the higher tiers and decided, I don't need them that urgently. Humble failed to tempt me into spending more, nothing really screams "you neeeeeed meeee!" :)
Lemme know how you decide!

I guess my biggest concern is about the comics/manga, than can be really hit and miss with horror (more than books, I feel) and since I don't know them I'm not that sure about buying them... still, I'm really tempted XD

Let's hope someone can help me decide XD thanks for your input <3

These mangas were the main reason I was turned off by the higher tiers of this bundle. I like comics and sometimes I even buy comic bundles, but those mangas are not my thing, I feel the characters are pictured too childish to enjoy the read, and somehow they all look the same.
When in doubt I always use the sneak peek Humble provides. Have you tried reading a bit into the offered content?

I felt exactly the same. Which is why I got the $1 tier. I think it provides quite a lot of good content for the money. I mean, look at it, it has 7 items in it already. That'll be good fodder for a while :)

And maybe you discover by me trying to talk you out of spending too much money on something, that you disagree with what I say and that you, being a big horror fan, really really need more than just those 'cause the opportunity of discovering something really surprisingly nice among the bundle's content is just too good to let it pass by. Have fun decision making :)
Let me know in the end what you went for, will you?

I like comics and there are a few really nice comic books in there - but keep in mind things like Locke and Key are good but you are getting the first volume in a lengthy series. It's like when you are getting a game in bundle that has already been in multiple promotions clearly just to try and shift a lot of pricey DLC.

I saw this mentioned by Bryn already. Gotta admit, I never heard of Locke & Key. Did I miss something?

Hard to tell about it...
Comic is beautifully done
Story of a family moving into Lovecraft, Massachusetts after the death of the father.. Find an old house, with lots of doors. Many of them closed. And many, many keys - more than doors. Turns out, keys are magical - can control others, remove and add thoughts into their head, change shape, form, fly, almost anything.
What I really liked in the ones I read: they play with the comic format. The form and placement of a cell can have a meaning, absolutely using it as an extra artistic tool. It's great to look at page compositions because it looks good at characters (shapes), colours and placement level as well. And it deals with so many everyday issues, while having a "usual" story about ageless horrors trying to get in control and using tricks for that. The family consists of the mother, elder brother, middle sister, younger brother. They are all so painfully human. The mother becomes an alcoholic because of the loss, the elder brother finds love I think and tries to help someone who may be in bigger need of help than he is - the middle girl has a rebel phase and finding both good and bad company, ending up with some problems, and also weird, but very loyal friends. And the younger boy just feels alone with others getting friends - and the story uses these emotions during the issues (it absolutely has a timespan) to uncover weaknesses, give opportunities for the Evil to attack and manipulate, or just to set up an adventure to progress story AND personality of the characters. (And another great thing - the superpower-keys play role in "normal" strorylines as well, like using wisdom-granting key to make homework, etc. They are kids afterall, and trying to use their means to get ahead, or help others)

Thanks for the summary, adam! This sounds like something I might enjoy as well. I'll see if I can find a place to read some excerpts online. Weird, how some things just pass you by...
