NEW PUZZLE POSTED, CHECK THE NEW THREAD!

EPIC VISUAL NOVEL PUZZLE #001

Yep, renamed the thread, please come back to this page for a new puzzle regarding the very same VN.

This is the first in a series of puzzles with just one question. Just a new approach I'm trying.

The question isn't hard nor easy, it is intended to take a long time to solve unless you either luckily have experienced a specific experience or are a very very resourceful ninja from Yakuza. As it should take a long time to solve this, you've been granted over one week to solve this puzzle. If nobody solves a puzzle in this special series, the puzzle will NOT end - another giveaway will be opened until at least one user solves it AND enters the giveaway.

The puzzle may be slightly "nerfed" over time - concerning the method to solve it.

Without further delay,

1QP - One Question Puzzles - #001

Ends at September 15, 2015, 2:23pm UTC

Enjoy brothers and sisters.

WARNING: Googling is NOT recommended (because of plot spoilers) and will NOT really help you to solve this.

Jackpot increased! Two giveaway links for different, non-bundled games as reward for solving this puzzle! Enjoy!

PLEASE READ THIS - VERY IMPORTANT

Six puzzle solvers so far, and none of them actually played the game like they're supposed to.

Fear not, today I will be posting on this very thread yet another puzzle regarding Never7 with a different, better prize so that people will actually put some effort:

  • It won't be just one question
  • Questions will be designed in a way that will ensure the person has played through the game
  • I will provide very useful help/advice for people who actually play the game (via Steam)
  • I will provide installation help
  • There will be a very long timeframe to solve this puzzle
  • The puzzle won't be excessively hard, just something that will confirm that you played through the game and has an understanding of its plot.

I would also like to stress that the actual reward of this puzzle is the game experience itself, not the giveaways, they are just there as an incentive.

Yes, the game is THAT good.

PUZZLE FIXED. Works as intended now.
People who solved it in the unintended way have not entered the puzzle by their own choice.

Bump, several adjustments have been made to the puzzle description, the thread description and a new ITH link has been created for statistical purposes. The old link has been deactivated.

You can't be stuck, the method to solve this puzzle is obvious, you just need the guts to go and do it.
EDIT: Also I edited the puzzle page to mention that guessing is fruitless. No such "searching for hidden clues" or "thinking about what could be the solution" here. You need to do what the puzzle is telling you to and you will ultimately get to the answer if you do it correctly.

Do you realize that repeating multiple times that there aren't any hidden clues, etc., etc. will actually make people think there is something hidden here and this is your vague way to give them hint?

That's their problem then lol.

I have actually stressed out in multiple ways that there are no hidden schemes in this puzzle, it's a whole different approach.

You say that we can solve your puzzle by research and then you say we can't google it... So what is that research you mentioned? Go to the library? ;)

I rephrased that. You must "experience" something. It's pretty damn obvious actually.

At least I hope the game you're giving is not the one you're asking about then :D

You actually can't buy the English fan-translated version of this game. And the Japanese version will not work for solving this because the answer is in English. (It could work but I'm not sure).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

OK, now I'm lost. How can you experience the game then?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

By downloading the English fan-translated version of the game and playing it? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It's a hidden gem that I am pretty sure few people outside Japan have played, I really really want SteamGifters to play it :3

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

But... Is it legal then?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's a gray area pretty much. There are countless Visual Novels out there that are only in Japanese, fan translation exists in order to allow English speakers to... well... not have to learn Japanese in order to play then.

Translation teams often have permission from the developer to translate.

If you feel bad about just downloading it, you can always go and buy the official CD of the game which is all Japanese.

I see. Well, that's interesting, Thanks for explaining that to me :)

I don't think they have the permission if the original game is a paid game.

See the below replies, then reconsider your decision please ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm pretty sure that does not exist an "English fan-translated version of the game"! Surely there is an english patch that translates it, but if you want to do things legally ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) you still have to buy the japanese version of the game. But maybe I'm wrong...
That said, I'm not going to solve the puzzle.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Like I said, the only way to experience the game is to download said patch. I was talking about English version because it comes with said patch applied. Also would like to mention that the sales of this game have been stopped due to bankruptcy, rendering this game effectively impossible to purchase. Source

I recommend getting the game, as it is really worth it. I wouldn't go through the trouble of making this puzzle thread if it wasn't.

To clerify things a bit: KID is the original developer of the game, and according to this source went bankrupt, leading to the games being acquired by CyberFront - which in turn also went bankrupt and stopped selling the game at Gameliner, in 2013, according to this

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are saying that they all went bankrupt because noone played their games and they are not worth be played? xD

Jokes apart, VNs are not really my cup of tea so I don't think I'll be able to get into this one just to solve the puzzle. ;)

Permalink

Actually, their visual novels were greatly praised, the Infinity series are one of the best visual novel series ever released. Ultimately they went bankrupt because their debts surpassed their profits, unfortunately.

And yeah, I know you were trolling.

Also, give it a chance! It's so amazing that even though you dislike VNs in general, you may very well love this one.
Nothing about artificial hentai crap here. Actual plot with actual depth. It will make you shatter in excitement/anticipation

Maybe I'll give it a try, then...

Think about a Bioshock Infinite level plot but without actual gameplay, just an interactive multiple choice story.
It's very amazing, although it's a LOT of fiction, you will enjoy it and embrace it :D

You also get quality art, soundtrack and japanese voice acting.

Choice? It has choice?! That's what I hate about most VN's. There usually just a click through without any way to interact with it. I might actually try this one then.

This puzzle is related to the English fan translation of the game. And yes, you must play it.
The original japanese game won't help you solve it because I am not Japanese so the answers are based upon the English version.

I guess it would be unfair the reset the puzzle again, so I'll just behave and let the wind blow where it may.
But I'll make another puzzle next week that you won't be able to solve even by doing that. Lol.

Actually it would be pretty valid if you had done the thing entirely and not just bits, why you must always go for the shortcuts -_-

I was thinking why OP said 2 solvers already when there's no solver yet on itstoohard.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There was something wrong with his first puzzle and 2 people solved it. So he made another puzzle.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Correct. I changed the link to a whole new ITH puzzle, because people solved it in an unintended way (by googling). Now that should be impossible. If you haven't figured it out yet, you must actually play the game in order to find out the answer. That's the whole point of this.

Other puzzles of the 1QP series will follow the same mindset.

Well I would like to try this game. The problem is the only website I found to download it gives me tonnes of ad pop-ups (even though I have adblock) and makes me wait 2 mins to download each of the 5 files! I have to wait 5 minutes inbetween each download as well. So it will take me over half an hour just to get each of the downloads started! You have a better source to download it? Although i'm not sure it's actually aloud for you to share links like that on SG?
edit: Managed to find a better download source and can now download it all in one without restrictions. Although I really don't like the fact that we have to do something illegal to solve this puzzle!
edit2: Sorry I give up. Not willing to go through all this trouble to install it. If there was a simple way for me to buy it for cheap then I would, but it seems there isn't.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What is the source that you've found?

Anyways, as I explained above, while it is not entirely legal, it is not illegal - a gray area between the two. You can't play it unless you download it the way I told you. And the game is really worth all the trouble, trust me.

Actually, I could not find it. I had another .exe file to use and got that one to work. Sadly I am now stuck at another point being unable to move forward due to the game crashing a couple lines after the first choice no matter which one I picked so now I am trying to find a way to fix that.
