I created a private giveaway and shared it only with a few people... Now someone I don't know entered it. I suspect someone shared the link with him...

Several funny facts :

  • Looking at his steam profile it seems his last connection was 47 days ago
  • He barely played the games he has
  • He appears to have regifted some of the games he won
  • He seems to have managed to trick the account value check

I suspect someone with several profiles. Of course I'll report him, but not before I got the occasion to ask him how he got the link. What do you think would be the best way to track him down ?

The NSA could do the trick.

Well, Mr. Sarif, why don't you ask your head of security?

It appears there has been a security breach in company's firewall, so an enemy hacker was able to hack in and leaked the link to the hidden giveaway.

You don't "fix" an entire firewall, you find the loophole and you plug it.

Then did you plug it?

+1

probably one of your "friends" has an alternative steam account. ;]

next time create a private steamgroup, make a giveaway in there and then add/invite to group anyone you want.

I don't know how you can track down the traitor. But at least report the mystery guest who joined for the points you mentioned.
Regifting, tricking account value and multiple accounts are all not allowed. (Everything will be confirmed by support of course. Especially since you cannot confirm multiple accounts yourself)

I suggest to hire one of my dwarf warriors mystery solvers. They will find and punish traitor in no time!

Maybe support can help you see what IPs accessed the giveaway, and where from.

One could just brute force guess giveaway links. Unlikely, but possible.

There is no way to track who gave it away without having a keylogger on the traitor's PC at the time of the leak.

I suggest that the next time you create a giveaway that is meant only for certain known people is that you make a steam group, add them to the group, then create a group giveaway.

Contact FBI. They know all, see all. (Being paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you) :P

Contact the NSA. They know all, see all, record all. Even all you non-USA people. Yeah, sorry about that.

Don't know how many people you shared the giveaway with, but maybe check who of them has most of the games, the invalid guest has won. Chances are he used the won games on his main account.

Doubt this will get you any further. Amount of games is no real base to suggest duplicate accounts for.
I personally have 189 games. Does that mean I am more likely to have 2 accounts then someone with 3 games who joined the site last week? I don't think so.

I think he means to look for the person with the most games that the uninvited person has won. Not the one with the most games total. Just matches between gifts won, and games owned...

Close the giveaway, make a private group - ask everyone who you shared the giveaway to enter the group.
You wouldn't find out who did that, but you would be protected from this in the future .
As for finding out - as mentioned before, ask the support .
