Since 12 hours passed I'm guessin everybody made a thought(s) about Steam Event.

Anybody else is dissapointed it's just another Valve ploy to get our money without any fun factor - like chances for additional points for doing achievements (yes, I know about SAM, hence "additional" - like everybody can get achievs., but only people who crafted badges will have chance for free games) or even some Summer "Do stuff" Badge, like those before cards?

I want the get achievements for tickets back. That was awesome and atleast you had something to do.
No offence, but these team things suck and deals are fun for the first 20 minutes.

even as team purple I can say that this thing sucks. I mean, come on, 30 people win something - how likely is it that you're the one getting something? you've got better chances here.

I read into that and I think its actually members of the winning team that contributed 30 points on will receive the free games on the wish lists, which suck imo :( 30 points is too much! I have only 4 contributed :(

Where did you read that you need to contribute 30 points?

"Each day the team with the most points wins. 30 members of that team who contributed points that day will win 3 games off their Wishlist."

I admit I miss that setup. Think it was probably better than the other ideas they have came up with. Though I did like the coal thing they did that one winter sale.

Regardless a chance, even if its minute.. to win games on you're wish list is freaking awesome I think. Just my opinion at least.

Sure it is awesome and I guess everyone would love to win but the chances are... well, almost non existing.

I was randomly put on Purple.. so I am not upset about that right now :P Then again its just a chance if you contributed points.. so for those on purple who have not do not even get the chance. ( I made sure I did so I had a chance at least. )

Still I fully agree, the coal system was nice. I was one of the ( quite a few actually ) who picked up a few games from those.

They're improving, but it still isn't the same level as the first sale events, without a doubt. However we can always hope they'll nail it down soon.

I think that can be solved simply by adding the ways to complete those achievements every sale, but maybe just add 1 or 2 more new ones every year, that way they don't really have to do much work each year creating achievements, they are obtainable after the initial sale and users have some new interesting things to do during the sale. The way i see it it would be win situation for everybody, it doesn't have to include coal, that would be asking too much, but it simply brings a bit more variety during the sale that i feel some users would appreciate.

That's true - they should be unlocked forever, or at least have events when they work (like Killing Floor, it has Portal 2 Release Achivs that receive some weekends when they work again).

You mean the "Do this during Christmas" type achievements? They can still be completed... just during Christmas (or if you computer THINKS it's Christmas).

Well, as long as they do them the smart non-year-specific way I don't see too much of a problem with seasonal achievements.

There's sale-specific in-game achivements? What kind of BS is that?

Not great but not the worse either. At least this time they did something more than card sets and voting.
It's not nearly as good as the summer one in which they had that showcase with items which you could buy with tickets or the X-mas coal one but I guess 30 people / day will find it to be a very good event xD.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Every single summer/winter sale since they introduced badges has been a ploy to get people to "spend more money" to craft badges. I personally don't mind, great deals and the price of random cards on the market rises up slightly, which gives me a good reason to clean my inventory!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

For every event there is a "DIS IS SHITTY" topic. Why don't you just enjoy the sale?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I do enjoy the sale (there wasn't anything I'd be interested and cheap, but first day was nice and gives hope for nice deals in next days).

But I really find no reason to enjoy Adventure - not rich enough to spend €3 to craft summer badges, so I'm stuck waiting for last day, hence disappointing.

I find this years theme really disappointing too. It could've been way cooler and interesting, but ultimately it just feels half-assed.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, I'm enjoying myself. I've never really felt the urge to craft badges but now there's some incentive. Though I'm still only going to craft the ones I'm interested in. If your goal is profile customization, it's a pretty great event. :P

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I like the idea of this event, but the implementation is very bad. Most of the items you can get are for games hardly anyone cares about, so it won't motivate the community to craft the badge. Same for the whole "race" thing: it's a good idea, but seeing how little chance we've got to win our 3 wishlist games, I don't think anyone will take it too seriously. The 1-2 extra cards aren't that motivating either.

I've been wanting to lv up my steam profile, so far I made 9 normal game badges during this, doesn't help much when purple is in the lead by 50k points but the start of the event was pretty cool to see how even everyone was for so long :)

I am not very impressed (unless i drop a rare ingame item^^) but I can understand it.
I mean those prices are almost criminal, I have no idea how they can make a margin on that. So they cant give you tons of stuff on top of that...

Btw, do ingame purchases count as well?

you're getting 1 out of 10 summer sale cards for every 10€ spent....so indirectly you're getting 1 point for every €.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

First of all, it's $10, not 10€. And having a card won't give you any point unless you craft the badge, which requires 10 cards. So 10 cards = 10 points -> 1 card = 1 point -> $1 -> 0.1 point.

"First of all" in your country 10$, in Europe 10€.

I bought one game for 2.99 € (euros not $) and when i now put one game for 4.99 € in my cart it says I get one card and have sth over. And according to my math that is not 10€.
And it even says in the FAQ : 1 card per $10 USD or equivalent...

I am also unable to market purchase, so for this team business sale adventure doo-dad, i am a one legged soccer player..

Really there isn't much i can do besides wait and either it will fix itself or 7 days will pass.

I can't believe they added what team you are to the avatar pop-up. I noticed this in the market. Are they trying to divide the community? Oh, he's from purple, can't buy from him or else my team will never get a chance.

It's a bit lame. It was a good idea, but something is missing. Maybe more ways to get cards/items that generate points. Like doing some community tasks, or anything that would resemble a real quest. This way it's just "buy cards, craft badges" which boils down to "we were too lazy to inspire you to spend more money".

They really should eliminate SAM, and put some very rare+hard achievements pull some weight into the so called adventure, which now is only buy+market+craft

you don't need to craft badges to get a chance at free games.

Yes you do. It says on the FAQ you have to be a badge-crafting/point-earning member of the winning team to have a 0.00000001% (probably less) chance of winning 3 games.

Aye, you have to have contributed a point to your winning team's success. Its not hard to craft a single cheap badge to throw your hat in the ring.

Yea, you do. You have to contribute points to get that chance. At least 1 which is any game badge, but still you have to contribute.

You have an alternative way of entering though as well.

Quote:
"Alternate Entry: To manually enter the Sweepstakes, each eligible entrant must print his or her name, address, city, state, country, postal code, email address, Steam account name, and telephone number, as well as the day of the sale that the entry is for, on a self-addressed 4”x6” note card and mail the completed form to: Valve Corporation, P.O. Box 1688, Bellevue, WA 98009-1688. Note cards mailed in envelopes will not be accepted prior to June 19, 2014. Note cards mailed in envelopes and postmarked between June 19 and June 29, 2014 will be accepted. No e-mailed or faxed alternate entries are eligible. Facsimiles, photocopies or mechanical reproductions of entries will be void. Alternate entries received after July 1, 2014 will not be eligible for any Sweepstakes. Each user may submit one alternative entry per the day from June 19 to June 28; each day’s entry must be postmarked on that day. Proof of sending or submitting an alternate entry is not proof of receipt of such alternate entry."

Who cares about events? It's about games being on sale.

Yes, absolutely...
Disappointing - just like all the other (money stealing) events since they invented those cards...
Of course I can sell some Summer-Sale-cards and earn some money if I don't want to craft badges and do what valve wants me to do, but there is simply no fun in it (anymore).
And the sales, well, mostly I have seen those games already cheaper on other stores where I'm not focred to pay € - so far; it's just the first day now, maybe sales are getting better later on, but according to the last winter or summer sale they won't...
I personally miss the "Steam Summer Camp" where I had to get achievements for earning tickets in order to redeem them for some small games, dlcs or tf2 items which I choose myself. I know, this achievement thing won't work anymore today and those prizes back then were pretty bad but for me it was a lot of fun.
