This time it's a puzzle for beginners, for the people new to steamgifts, or for the veterans teaching them the site rules

edit:
It has been pointed out to me that I made a mistake.
The third color should be this shade: https://www.colorcodehex.com/198801/
My apologizes to anyone that had problems because of this,

Solutions:

hidden hints:

  • If you looked at the comments on the drop box you would see the phrase "Book cypher"

  • the line "This time it's a puzzle for beginners, for the people new to steamgifts, or for the veterans teaching them the site rules" was hinting at the key the the puzzle. the steamgifts FAQ
I& f you downloaded the image, renamed it to .zip and extracted you found a text file that said:

    https://www.steamgifts.com/about/faq
    rule - word - letter

  • the line "This time it's a puzzle for beginners, for the people new to steamgifts, or for the veterans teaching them the site rules" was hinting at the key the the puzzle. the steamgifts FAQ

  • the RBG values for the five colors in the image are:

    16 65 1
    6 18 5
    25 136
    10 23 4
    20 16 1

Solution:

16 65 1

The sixteenth rule(question rather as one of my solvers pointed out later) in the FAQ is

I think I spotted a fake giveaway, what should I do?

We typically allow all giveaways to run their course without judgement, and allow the giveaway creator a fair chance to prove themselves and to come through with the gift in the end. An exception is when the giveaway creator enters a description that clearly states the giveaway is fake, or if the description illustrates a lack of understanding of how the giveaway system works. Please refrain from posting any comments accusing the giveaway creator of posting a fake giveaway, and only create a support ticket if the giveaway is fake beyond a reasonable doubt.

The sixty-fifth word in the rule is "Please"

The first letter of "Please is "P" which is the first letter of the URL

Repeat these steps for the pother four colors.

Are the color artifacts intentional, or is it due to jpg compression?

The colors in the image, from left to right, RGB channel in that order, to save everyone's trouble

16 65 1
6 18 5
25 146 1 25 136 1 (the image is messed up, and this is the correct one according to OP)
10 23 4
20 16 1

If anyone found an error, please let me know.

Fixed with the value from the new image.

There was two clues in the original puzzle to tell you what to do next. they are both there now (one was missing permisions 10 minutes ago and you couldn't see it)

If this is a puzzle for beginners, I don’t want to see the puzzle for experts

Can you easily find the key to the puzzle on the internet? Or do you need to own it?

^ I think I understand what to do with the key but I haven't found any clues to help identify the correct key. What am I missing?

No idea. Btw, I'm also a solver, not the owner of the puzzle.

Yeah, I know. I responded to your comment because it seemed the most related to where I am at with the puzzle. Just hoping the owner can provide some direction.

The HEX values don't seem to translate to anything, and there are way too many digits for it to translate to binary in the way the previous puzzle did.
Decimal and octal don't seem to work either.

Never in my lifetime ... :D

Thanks for the solution. Since I already own the game, I was merely interested in the puzzle itself, but I simply couldn't figure it out. Might be because I come from the time before the internet (which is a fad and will never gain any traction, anyway).

Thanks for the effort to make this nice puzzle!

(chuckles) You do realize I used a cypher that is hundreds of years old? The first known book ciphers were created around 1526.

Yes, I realised that. I meant that never in my lifetime I would have solved that puzzle. :D

We used the book cipher back in my younger days, even before 1526. How else did you think we could surprise so many pepople during the inquisition?
