Hello! So I am indeed a first timer, so please excuse my ignorance, but I'm not sure how these puzzles work. I saw another one and someone mentioned not having the skills to break down the image to find the code. Is that what needs to be done, or can the answer be found just by looking at the photo? I'm confused.

Sometimes you can see it with your eyes or if you tilt your screen, but you're going to need some software for this puzzle.

I'm having trouble finding the plane from the image, are you sure dinosaurs and planes existed during the same time period?

"needs external software" ... Well, never mind then. I have trouble with the ones that just need normal tools, like pictures with ciphers in them and stuff. Good luck everyone.

What kinds of puzzles do you like? I'm thinking about making one, and would love it to be played by people of various skill levels.

I'm honestly more interested in the puzzle than I am the game. Unfortunately, I won't just download any program to solve one. Though it might be something I already have... hmmm 🤔 It's worth a try.

Will you be letting us know what you did after the giveaway?

Oh sure, there are at least a couple tools online though, no download needed.

Oh, okay, thank you! That makes my situation a whole lot easier. Doesn't make the puzzle any easier, though.

lol. If I wanted Ghostrunner that much I guess I would have bought the Choice last month XD
Not installing some software just for this.

I just don’t play enough FPS that I fear that I’d get easily frustrated with it. My competitive action days are behind me :-D

It's not an actual FPS, but rather an platformer. You need very good reaction time and basically dodge the bulets of the enemy and kill them like a total badass. You get many abilities to control your movement and make the life of your enemies a lot harder, but the game is very difficult in the platformer level. You're many times going to repeat on and on section of the map because you would end up dying from a bullet hit or from a fall.

As you can see, although I finished the campaign, I didn't bother to get the game to 100%. I found it too much of a hassle for the first time and I may return at it when I feel I need stress in my life. 🤣

Spent about 3 hours total inspecting this image, all kinds of ciphers, even tried steganography, but bad luck this time I guess. Good puzzle anyway, looking forward to see the solution, which seems to be not that mind-blowing, considering there are 20+ entries already.

Well....You were right, but I didn't take the easy way and used some python magic. Never heard about something hiding in plane sight, it is something a bit new for me. Nevertheless, thanks for the giveaway.

The pixels RGB values are odd or even, hiding a bitmap.

Hopefully it was obvious from the stegosaurus that steganography was used.

The title's mistake was intentional, and referring to the bit plane.

There's a neat trick to finding the bitmap manually, that's by taking the LSB 1s and 0s (odds/evens) of the pixels and visually arranging the aspect ratio so it creates a legible picture. *see images below

Today's bit plane manipulation was brought to you by James Stanley, who made a fun tool to make these on his website.

Some of the tools available:
Online
https://incoherency.co.uk/image-steganography/#unhide

https://gchq.github.io/CyberChef/#recipe=View_Bit_Plane('Red',0)Render_Image('Raw')
notice all the RGB values are odd (any graphics program could give the same lead)
extract LSB

Nice. I didn't seriously try to solve it since I had very fortunately (and surprisingly) won Ghostrunner in a public giveaway a week back but I gave your puzzle a very quick (and brief) try. I will admit, visual puzzles have always been my weak point. I've solved a few steganographic puzzles before but I'm not sure I would've felt confident enough in my assumptions to reach the right aspect ratio.

Ah, that's not a knock on the puzzle itself though. Plenty of people were able to solve it after all! You can't solve them all and it just so happens that I am particularly weak against these sorts of puzzles. Anyhoo, cheers and thank you for the puzzle and giveaway!

Manually extracting least significant bits and finding the bitmap in text is only a neat trick, helpful to notice a pattern, and demonstrating how the odd/even pixel values hold the hidden message. Sliding the text around in the text editor window is just for fun, not the intended solution.

Any of those online tools will solve it automatically. Bookmark them for the next steganography puzzle, if you want.
