What other MMORPG Shooters are there besides Firefall and Defiance?
And I mean, actual MMORPg Shooters, where you get legendary drops or such.

There are 0 good ones atm. They seem to have good concepts and then just ruin themselves. I'm just hoping in two years firefall will be worth playing =(

Played a bit of it ages ago, but it got boring really quickly.

It's extremely grindy for a game with so much emphasis on its p2w cashshop.

How's that P2W?

The weapons in the cashshop are miles better than what can be obtained by other means. Meaning players who pay for their gear have a distinct advantage over those that don't. That's the very definition of "pay2win".

Nope. They are exactly the same. And you can get every weapon without spending any real money. You can buy blueprints with in-game credits you earn in missions and craft it yourself. Some weapon's blueprints need to be researched first in clan dojo.

As far as I can see, the strongest weapons are Prime Weapons, which only drop in parts and are nowhere up to spending. I don't see any P2W when everyone has the same RNG for BiS gear.

I think he meant to say, "It's extremely grindy if you don't want to use its pay-to-win cash shop."

It's very grindy anyway, spending reduces the grind, but what then? What do I do if I remove character progression and item collection through my wallet? That IS the game, as far as I am aware.

Yeah, free-to-play action games have yet to be perfected. Warframe is really fun in the short term, but according to you guys--I haven't played enough to say--it doesn't stay good for long.

I noticed in my short hour or so of gameplay that gun progression is really slow and that there wasn't much to buy with the not-real-money currency, so I can see how it goes bad. If you compare that to the--in some ways--surprisingly similar Space Marine, in that game, you get new killing toys all the time; it's a blast. Warframe could have been a really cool multiplayer successor to the woefully underrated Space Marine, if only Warframe wasn't pay-to-win.

The thing is, you don't play that for 4 hours straight.
The basic concept is not to "play through". It's more in line with old days Diablo, before it went crappy.
And no, there's no pay to win, no matter how you cling to it.

I don't understand.. Do you mean there is no "winning" in Warframe?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, so you mean any game you buy is Pay2Win because you have to buy it first in order to be able to "win"?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No... Pay-to-win isn't applicable to non-free-to-play games unless they have weird microtransactions.

If you have a console try Destiny. Other than that there really aren't any really good MMORPG shooters.

I would play it, but yeah, no console.

Honestly it'll most likely be release on PC. In fact the menus are controlled using a cursor. Yea a fucking cursor and yet it's not on PC.

The biggest/best known would be Planetside 2. Also has one of the better F2P models. It isnt instanced at all, power does not increase much over play just more options in the form of a new ability, different weapon, or passives (like adding an ejector seat to vehicles you drive). 4 large continents, 3 factions, 9 vehicles (including various sizes of aircraft), 6 classes you can jump between at any time. Although there is no drops, only drops might find is related to implants which just do stuff like reduce fall damage or show health bar of enemy.

It is the sort of game can hop in, get right to the action, and participate as long as want. I suppose it is not suited to be a MMO home, since there is nothing to it but the constant war and unlocking stuff, but it is well suited for hopping in whenever feel like it without a worry of falling behind in gear and being crushed due to it. You will be crushed due to lack of practice instead. Personally it and Metroid Prime might be the only FPS I like, admittedly my experience is limited.

There are/were a few others, like Global Agenda, but PS2 is by far the most successful current one. Possibly dethroned by Destiny (cannot personally say).

Here is my referal link if feel like trying it:

https://recruit.soe.com/recruit/smlanding.action?iId=DJCVMFBSK9H8TXMMLO6R&gamecode=PS2

Personally I have not spent any money on it and do not feel like missing on anything since the starting weapons are actually considered some of the better ones can use. I focused on playing Engineer, repairing vehicles, repairing battle mech players, putting down ammo packs, and shooting down airships and tanks with my rocket turret.

its not much of an mmo, plus its the biggest pile of crap in terms of optimization i have seen in years.

There really isnt any good mmo shooters out atm, feels like they all fail in some parts, either in the shooter part or the mmo part, or in both. Can only recommend playing some normal shooter instead, and some normal mmo.

It is MMO in the way that it is a large persistent world with no loading or instances, aside from between the four continents. And it covers the MMO part with how many take part in most battles. Seems the threshhold to be called MMO has gotten much lower in recent years so PS2 definetly falls way within the definition.

Dunno what you are talking about optimization wise, I am running it on a 5 year old comp that had medium specs when got it and it runs smoothly. No lag, no stopping to load (aside from when first login), fast loading screens (a rarity for me). I started around July, I know sometime this year they had done a big optimization patch. I run PS2 smoother than GW2 even.

And if looking for a full MMOFPS as in an actual world with lore, scripting, stuff to do other than fight ya I do not think such a game exists yet/currently unfortunately. Sounds like Destiny has some of that, but I really have not read much on it.

PS2 is not suited to be a home world, just a fun place to visit whenever feel like it. To each their own, regardless how you feel about it it is the most successful MMOFPS currently out there (again aside from maybe Destiny but we will see if that ages as well).

Honestly just wait. The menus are navigated using a cursor which just shows there's a chance of it coming to PC.

The shooter part is arguably terrible, so I think while it's a good game, it completely fails the shooter requirement.

I do like Defiance and Warframe. I haven't played enough to really get to the grind yet though.
