It's not though. There's a huge difference between always online and a 24 hour check (which probably takes a couple of seconds at most). Hate on the checking if you want, but don't mistake it for always online. That's a whole different bag of crap.

Well, I'm personally okay with it because, at least for me, I can't envision a situation I'll have difficulty with it. My internet is completely stable or at least fixed within hours (and if it takes a long time, I have other shit to do and my Xbox One would hardly be my biggest issue with being disconnected for so long) and I doubt all 300,000 Xbox One Live servers are going to go down at one time. I understand others have issues with it, but just like I say to people that complain about Steam's DRM, okay, that's your choice, but I am totally fine with it.

I guess you don't have kids then.
You don't go on long trips using an RV and don't normally have access to an internet connection with a couple of kids in the back screaming "we're bored" after 20 minutes of a 3 week vacation.
You don't have a cottage that has power but no phone or internet or even cable, with a couple of kids screaming "we're bored" 20 minutes after you get to the cottage for a couple of weeks or even just a weekend.
That's just 2 situations where an "always on" or even a "you have to check in every 24 hours or else you don't play" connection can really screw your summer vacation. Even though I really dislike Steam preferring to always be on, at least it sort of has an offline mode even though you have to connect online first to log in and then have it set to auto login to use offline mode (if you normally type your login and password every time that "feature" really screws you if your connection goes down before you have a chance to login and set up the auto login.

Again, I didn't say others didn't have complaints, just that I didn't and that I'm okay with it. I'm not sure why everyone feels the need to try to convince me when I will never encounter these situations.
And even if I did, for whatever awful reason, buy an RV (seriously, who does this?) and then proceed to go on holiday to a cottage (that part's fun), I wouldn't be bringing my sodding Xbox with me anyway, because we're on holiday. The kids can suck it up. If you're going to sit around on your arse all day, you can stay at home, I'm going to France with one less expensive ticket to buy and one less mouth to feed for a while. If I could find ways to amuse myself as a single child in said cottage without even a Gameboy, I'm sure two or more kids can find ways as well. If not, I'll just make them do the dishes until they do find something interesting.

Steam does practically the same thing and has failed on me far more often that my 360 has. For fuck's sake, the Community does down practically daily. What's the difference, really?

Yes, it does. You need to have a connection in the first place to get into offline mode last I checked.

check again. Works perfectly now. So nope, it isnt the same thing, not even remotely.

Oh, good. Only took three years plus to fix, huh? Snap timing, that.

They fixed that, now you can go offline without connection. I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people got pissy at that so Steam kinda had to do it. Now I can go offline when I'm on long car rides with my annoying family!

Okay, fair enough. But that doesn't excuse the overwhelming bitchfest that is the One reaction compared to how many people were content to put up with Steam's failings. Mostly because it was so damn minor and affected so few. No-one cared about those who wanted to buy PC games that used Steamworks if those people didn't have an internet connection. Why is everyone caring so much about this one?

"compared to how many people were content to put up with Steam's failings"
wut? You weren't there when Steam started, did you? People hated Steam}s guts back then.

I wasn't there, but I am fully aware of the reactions, because Steam was plagued with issues. Look what it turned into though. A bloody monopoly on the digital market. I'm not saying One is going to be like that, but there's still people that despise Steam's DRM despite being very fair. The problems the One has are all variations of that and aren't even that much worse for most people, so the backlash might be for a good reason, but either it's wildly out of control regarding the One or PC gamers proved once again they don't have a backbone.

Welp. There goes the idea of putting a post-it note over the Kinect's camera. I mean, I don't want an Xbox One, but one of my friends does only because of Mafia III, since Mafia II is his favorite game of all time, so he could have used it. Oh well.

+1 I'm stuck to the current and previous gen (PS2 & Gamecube).

I was really looking forward to the next Xbox when it was getting rumored last year (still called Durango), but then I kind of stopped liking consoles because they suck... I get better framrate in Skyrim and I have a crappy Dual Core Pentium 2.1ghz processor with Intel HD Graphics... The only reason I would even consider getting an Xbox One, is because I really want to continue playing the Halo games, but I'm kinda scared they are going down the same path with CoD and making them too often... Plus it might be cheaper to buy a $600 console, than a $1200 laptop that will become irrelevant when the next game comes out...

console sucks, PC rule case close.
you know why because PC is doing all the dirty job for console. name one console where we can make our own game from nothing tin tin tin times over NON. PC for ever
