It still amazes me that people are actually falling for these obvious scams. I mean, it's basically saying "lemme hack your account" ffs.

Either way, whether anybody thinks they are a target or not is irrelevant as you'll be played on eventually. It is a shame though as the day goes by, an account then another account is breached. It isn't Valve's fault as most peeps would think so when theoretically we we're given an account as a responsibility, and a privilege.

It's becoming more and more common nowadays and we're trying to figure out what goes on in a scammer's head. Its a black market in my eyes.

I dip my head in shame over the number of topics that appear in the Steam forums these days. sigh

I find it hard to believe anyone would ever fall for that. Always do business with people you trust.

Incidentally, I'm giving away free copies of Bad Rats. Send me your user ID and password and I'll add it to your account.

It's becoming more common and unavoidable but there isn't any reason to step into panic mode either. Only you have to trust yourself and nobody else.

70 friends, one message so far. i wonder how big this is going to get. valve may need to hire more staff.
or maybe it's an attempt to get more people to move to epic launcher. hue hue hue

I just fell for this and lost my Steam account. It is a man in the middle attack, their page looks like just the steam login page. Even if you have authenticator it doesn't help, because you think it is Steam login, and Steam asks you to log in every 2 weeks.

Ticket submitted, fingers crossed this gets resolved soon.

Sorry to hear that! I got a message from you, but had thankfully seen this topic and had someone else warn me. I removed you from my friends list in case they tried sending more stuff my way; feel free to re-friend me when you have your account back, which I hope will be soon!

No it isn't. It's just a fake login.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

If a new site is being promoted then:

1) why does it have 2 different URLs?
2) How come if you DO spin the reel (without logging in of course) you get the same revealed letters/numbers in the EXACT same position whichever game you "win"?
3) Why does it ask for the steam username and password for people ALREADY logged into Steam?

Please remove the link. Accidents happen.

Instead of removing the link, I think it suffices to remove everything except for the name of the site (strip http and .com), so that it's not clickable, or mask a character or two.

You can block communication temporarily and unblock them later. That's what I've been doing for people who are affected, I'll just check back in later in the week... or in like half a year when I'm like "Why haven't I heard from X in months?"

I think part of the effectiveness of this particular phishing link in this community is that I have friends who regularly update each other on free stuff and deals, so it's not inconceivable that a fellow human would send one of the links. If I hadn't seen a thread earlier today, I would have clicked one of the links without thinking twice.

Not to mention how many of those giveawaysites look sloppy and shady in the first place so a new one wouldn't raise much suspision.
Don't know how long I waited on chrono.gg or orly since I didn't trust them and sure as hell wont install a plugin from you know where.
But with these around something like this might not raise an eye for +1 hunters.
