Game awards are like the oscars, in a much smaller extent, you get the illusion of choice to vote between curated options and the outcome is most-likly predefined by some guys behind looked doors already.
So in my opinion there is no need to vote as Clair will get most of the awards with a few sprinkles of some other games in categories that are sidelined.
If you are into the show, I hope you have alot of fun with it, but for me personally its an advertisement show where we coin flip if the host ever held a controller and know what they are talking about or someone that only read a prompter to throw us some "hey nerds, video games, huh?" phrases.

I enjoy the show. Out of the 9 categories that Expedition 33 is in it wouldn't be surprising if they win all of them. I'm on act 3 currently and it's such a fantastic game. I would be very surprised if it doesn't win game of the year. It's easily one of the best games I've played. I'm a massive fan of turn based combat and I'd say it has one of the best turn based combat systems that I've seen.

I watch whatever event Geoff Keighley hosts so I can see what shoes he's wearing and see the birth of future memes in real time. If people rush the stage, if someone goes long on a speech and you see him become visibly upset, game dev says something strange, etc. It's a fun little event. What wins or loses doesn't really matter.
It would be fun if Dota won anything in any category it's in. But I know Valve doesn't advertise it and are busy with the GabeCube. So, it is what it is.

You sir, perfectly sums up my thought on the event, it's just a silly show who give some grind on the meme factory (also can't stop laughing on the kojima /keighley bromance, it's barely pg13 at this point, makes me cackle)

Like every other award ceremony, it's mostly self congratulatory and it's mostly the industry bumping chests while trying to keep the indies out
BUT every once in a while it does a good deal of promotion for a small studio that needs all the help it can get in creating original content and that's why I still care.

Voted even though I have played 0 of those games and don't know any of the people

Lol voting in an industry-ran awards ceremony ๐คฃ
Even on their own FAQ page, they admit the public's vote is barely worth anything.
How are Winners Selected?
Winners are determined by a blended vote between the voting jury (90%) and public fan voting (10%).

i prefer the joystick awards were actual gamers/customers voting determines the winners. game awards is a nice event but only good for new announcements and trailers. the winners are mostly biased by the juries, like who the fk cares about astrobot that won last year.

I still think that some of the categories for this don't make a whole lot of sense, why is "most anticipated game" even a thing? The game is not out yet, it's just an award to the hype campaign.
Another nitpick of mine is that sports and racing should probably be two separate categories, it sorta makes sense for football/soccer and F1 to be together since they're both based on irl sports but why are Mario Kart and Sonic Racing sharing space on that bracket with the rest? Who looks at EA FC and two kart racing games and goes "yep, same genre"?
And then I couldn't help but notice that only two of the five in "best fighting" are actually new games, the other three spots are occupied by two collections and a remaster.
These awards continue to feel more like a long ad than actual awards, I miss E3, they were more sincere in their intentions.

Shroud made some pretty out of touch hot take a while back about the game award and Expedition 33 https://youtube.com/shorts/lRhUworUegg?si=O5Ke3e98pTjJMzFO

Thanks for filling me in, I really appreciate it!
But, to be honest, I don't see the problem with Shroud's take - I see it more as a pro multiplayer stance and not really a knock against Clair Obscur.
It's a bit of problem, admittedly. How do you really compare a singleplayer game vs a multiplayer game, at its very core?
I think Clair Obscur deserves it, but the most sane solution would be something like splitting a GOTY awards along those lines here

I don't understand how they choose the nominees, it's the same game names that come up on a loop.

I know it's a convoluted award that basically show Geoff Keighley love bombing Hideo Kojima half of the time but I still like the ceremony, it fills my itch of "now dead big video games event" like E3 and have some funny cringy video and even heartfull moments sometimes.
You can check the video here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxUUJ-CQpmg#
And vote on the site here : https://www.thegameawards.com/nominees
Not that surprise of the result but still Clair Obscur being nominated 12 times makes me so happy (and a bit chauvinist )
Sorry not sorry Shroud
Also Blue Prince is nominated, it's well deserved imo
Do you people care about the award or not at all ?
