I forget how to check package [ie, sub] ID (versus simply APPID) for a purchase [at least, without fiddling with in-browser stuff, and my community login's on the fritz again], but my digital storefront (eg, GMG, Fanatical, Scamgala, Humble) purchased copy (note: Not Deluxe, and I don't own any DLCs) did get the enhanced copy added just fine (so, at the very least, it doesn't seem to be a Steam storefront purchase exclusive thing, or something like that).

Thanks, edited the title again. ;-)
you can check your package ID here:
https://steamdb.info/app/2149010/subs/
https://steamdb.info/app/424840/subs/
(should be green if you're logged in with your steam account)
or just go to https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/ and look up the package you activated (it will only show the name of the package, which you can then search on the steamdb page - unless you have a steamdb extension installed, in which case it will also show the number)

Yeah, can't get any sub info to show in the in-client licenses screen [all it says is "Little Nightmares" for the activation, wihch I suppose might indicate it's for 87193? Though since that's a store listed sub, not a key sub, that seems unlikely.], nor does the clent show ownership coloration tags (as even basic store pages do, with the enhanced/augmented steam plugin). I'll try to remember to pop back into the thread once I get logged back into community later on.

Pretty sure all those extensions stop highlighting such info as soon as your steam community login expires (as they presumably utilize that to source such information, same as any website), so I don't think it'd change anything? (Rather, my current extensions already do that highlighting, when logged in.) Do let me know if that's not the case for that specific extension for some reason, though.

Oh, absolutely, but given that you need to set packages as "Store", "Store or CD Key", or "CD Key" for the billing type, and that most major publishers seem to reliably set storefront subs to "Store" [Example: >>] without the key aspect, and it's just not the most intuitive option (ie, it's something to verify rather than assume).
At least, it's my understanding that you shouldn't be able to generate CD Keys for a sub that doesn't have its billing type set to allow for such, though that could also be outdated information even if it is accurate. Similarly, I haven't dug around much into Steam technicals since 2018 or so, so I might be out of the loop on current publisher listing trends. Add in that this is by no means a major developer and therefore less likely to adhere to typical industry norms (though it was published by Namco-Bandai, so there's that counterpoint), and there's certainly room for considering that this game may not match that format.
indeed, a closer look (now that I have the time) does however show that the listing in question IS configured to "Store or CD Key" [>>], and that there doesn't actually seem to be a proper CD Key listing to begin with (ie, that isn't for beta testing, complete edition, etc). So you're likely quite right that the store sub is probably also the main retail key sub for this game, and thereby likely in fact what I have activated..
Though that does still lead into the same conclusion of "if you have a retail key, it's likely to function the same as a store purchased copy" that I came to regardless, just by way of the premise of "because there's not likely any other purchase option you'd have gotten a key from", rather than by premise of "because my retail key worked, despite not being a store purchase". Not that I'm not arguing the clarification wasn't worthwhile, of course. Just noting that I lucked into a seemingly correct answer. :P
So if there are activations that aren't working, they're probably from bundles, which I'd then presume use to the "for beta testing" sub, or similar.

Yep I just saw it in my library too. Don't know anything about the Enhanced Edition though...I guess it's the same game but with very slightly better graphics?

That's the first time I've seen it, but the store description states as follows:
(Re)-Discover the dark whimsical tale of Little Nightmares, now enhanced in stunning 4K and 60 FPS.
Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition lets you choose between Quality or Performance Mode to favor either the visuals or the framerate depending on your preferences.
Enjoy improved visual effects, including RTX reflections, water effects, more particles, and volumetric lighting.
Additional helpers have been added for an overall better experience.

Near as I can tell, most of what you'll really be able to notice is better shadows and shaders. which mostly just makes for a gloomier (and less saturated) experience. Going off the last image I've attached [click on it for full size], particle effects do indeed seem to have also been improved, as per the last quote in pb1's reply to you. Enhanced edition on right for all attached comparison images:

Whenever I see these comparisons I wonder if they're being fair or purposefully messed with the graphics settings on the original to make the remaster look better than the original, wouldn't put it pass companies to lie with this type of stuff. There was this one instance when Ubisoft/Nadeo retroactively tweaked the lighting on Trackmania 2 Canyon on an update so Trackmania Turbo would look nicer by comparison without them having to actually improve the assets.
Comment has been collapsed.
I've never seen that be that case, though it certainly sounds like something a big publisher would do.
Volumetric lighting and softer lightning management have always been a steady progression from older release to newer releases. In fact, the push towards adding stuff sometimes actually leads to arguably worse results in some remasters, as some games lose clarity/definition when a greater emphasis is placed on lightning depth in a game that was specifically built for sharper light/shadow contrasts.
Notably, it's important to keep in mind both that visual comparisons are usually done by critical reviewers, fans, and streamers, and not by official sources, so there's rarely even cause to assume intent for manipulation. Further, the internet being what it is, you can always look up older images yourself to verify what comparisons are displaying. In this case, google image searching "little nightmares gameplay 2017" consitently shows the very sharp, stark, distinctive lighting indicated on the left side of the comparison images.
Well, comparison shots do often utilize high-contrast scenes, so in that sense, the ones linked above do definitely seem to focus on scenes with more of a white light emphasis, which comes across as an oversaturation, than on the scenes where there's a stronger dark/light contrast. All the same, we can see that even in the better scenes, there's simply not much depth to the lightning structure in the original release. That said, it's not necessarily worse, either- there are people who prefer HD mods for the second-to-last Skyrim release over the most recent Skyrim release, just for preference in subtle distinctions in the warmth or accenting of the lighting between the two. I assume some users may prefer the original release's clearer lightining- though, certainly, the oversaturated aspect does suggest such individuals would likely be in a minority.
I've attached six more images from the original release from the aforementioned google search, the first two show a similar white light based oversaturation, the latter four show scenes where the lighting is softer and saturation not as emphasized, but where we can still see a lower detailing of background visuals as a result of the simpler lighting system (as the original release basically used an on/off lighting system, versus the remaster's more subtle lighting changes).
Ultimately, it wasn't an ugly game by any means on its initial release, so it's not as if we're damning it by acknowledging the remaster as an improvement. For that sake, here's some considerations: Little Nightmares was mostly a finished product in 2016, ultimately releasing with minimal changes in 2017; Comparatively, a big point of marketing for 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider over 2013's Tomb Raider was in it having a similar lighting overhaul compared to the first game.
Little Nightmares was Tarsier Studios's first meaningful game release, so despite the studio having been around in some capacity since 2004, it clearly wasn't working at the same level as strongly Square Enix-backed long-term feature game developer Crystal Dynamics. So if you think about it from that framework, it's not surprising the original Little Nightmares release was lacking such features- rather, it's far more surprising it (or games like Limbo, etc) released as aesthetically pleasing as they did, despite their modest origins.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah I'm probably just being paranoid.
And about Tomb Raider 2013 vs Rise otTR it's been quite some years since I played them so I don't quite remember how big of a graphical improvement there was between the two, I really liked Rise but mostly because of the gameplay improvements and how nice the side missions were, the main plot and graphics kinda leaked out of my memory over time, but fighting a flaming house? That stuck in my memory... like for real the Baba Yaga mission and the Croft Manor DLC were so much more memorable than whatever the heck was going on with the main story.
Comment has been collapsed.
I mean, yeah, the first Tomb Raider was already gorgeous in every way and likely outshone Little Nightmares in most every way graphically, with LN really just succeeding as [graphical] competition based on its unique aesthetic and dedication to pulling that aesthetic off.
I just meant lighting in games specifically was a big thing in media/press releases/etc at that time, so LN, as an indie game, couldn't have been expected to feature something that the highest profile major releases were only just starting to highlight themselves (especially when LN was already working so hard to compete on graphics at a baseline level).
Still, it's a truly cool thing that in the past decade or so we've had indie studios regularly redefining graphical expectations for games (LN, Limbo, Gris, Kingdom, etc), regularly offering us visual experiences that are completely different from typical Tomb Raider/God of War/Skyrim/Grand Theft Auto/etc realism-imitating mainstream graphical approaches. Definitely gotta respect what they did accomplish far more than anything they may not have been able to- and getting remasters after-the-fact to resolve those shortcomings is an even cooler thing.
Y'know, I went out of my way to get the season pass for Rise, and yet I never got around to playing it (due to forgetting until just now that I'd actually done that). Thanks for the reminder. :'P

Haven't played Little Nightmares yet, although I remember seeing trailers for it looking really nice, might have to give it a go as the "spooky" game for October, although now I'm doubting if I should play the original or this new version. And yeah back when Limbo came out I was blown away by the fact that an indie game achieved that level of polish in its graphics, and it ran fine on pretty modest hardware too.
About Rise TR I consider it a highlight for the franchise, up there with TR Anniversary and Lara Croft GO as one of the best as far as I'm concerned. But I did end up doing the same thing as you with Shadow TR, bought the full pack and it's just been sitting there unplayed for years now XD

in my library i see "little nightmares"[9GB] and "little nightmares enhanded edition" [4.5 GB]. So is this an update to the normal game because of size? My licence site says "Little nightmares" (nothing other).

For any game on Steam, it's best to assume that the download space requirement Steam is listing for a game only covers the game's initial download, and not any subsequent data handling (ie, game updates that are handled internally rather than through Steam, games that are run through launchers and have game installs handled through the launcher, or games that have their files hosted on Steam under heavy compression and therefore have you download a compressed data file that will then need to be decompressed afterward).
Any of these setups may lead to a game using substantially more HD space than Steam indicates they'll need. In the case of Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition, a quick google confirms it uses a compressed downloader, and that it has an officially listed 10GB storage space requirement. This could mean that it'll need as much as 16GB free space for the initial install, depending on how its decompression is handled.
TL;DR version, it's unrelated to the original game's installation and actually seems to use more hard drive space overall, it just uses better compression for the download itself, leading to a smaller download size (but not final install size).

i cant confirm your answer. i have downloaded and startet the enhanced edition - the game use 4.6 GB on my disk.

While it’s not entirely wrong to say that some games download additional data, the number that actually do so is very small, usually limited to certain MMOs. You could have checked the corresponding depots on SteamDB to verify this instead of making incorrect assumptions.
Original: 424841
Enhanced: 2149011
When you compare the on-disk sizes and compressed download sizes for both, it becomes clear that the original version’s content was not compressed inside its .pak file. In fact, the enhanced edition barely saves any space in terms of download size and is actually almost twice as large as the original’s download. This conclusion is also supported by the change in minimum system requirements.

I don't recall ever seeing it in my library either, but when I sort by date added to library it says it was added in the same date as the original did, back in 2021.

Great, I just found it in my library. Sadly no DLCs in EE if you dont own them in original. There is selectable Kid character in start game, but after vlicking on that game just throw you at Steam store page. :/

did they change anything? it used to be that when you remove a game, you can then purchase it
I seem to recall something about asking you if you want to restore it instead, but not sure if it was obligatory
anyway, when it comes to key activation, you can always activate a key, even if you own the game, if it's another sub
here it's definitely another sub, because the store subs had the enhanced edition added, so maybe it would work anyway?
Comment has been collapsed.
You can definitely remove a "small" version of a game, to activate a sub that has more content on it.
This is a recurring issue with Paradox games, that they include an empty "package" to their keys, and as you don't own that empty part, you can activate essentially the same content over your already existing content.
(You have your book. I'm selling the same book, Adam's Special Edition. The special edition bonus is an empty envelope. Congratulations, you don't get the book as you already have it, only the empty envelope as new content. Please buy more Adam's Special Editions!)

They don't show up.
Recently activated Cryptmaster [1]
Being removed [2]
Not in library [3]
But you're right, that I can't just buy 5 keys for the same game, and activate one - remove it - activate second - remove it, etc....
It will tell me that I have the same sub / package on my ACCOUNT, I can check the support menu so it can be returned to my LIBRARY.
This is why I thought we may understand different things under library :) The games shown under the library tag, or the account activated subs.
Back in the day I activated Gun Monkeys, got an extra copy. Thought that I'll just remove mine, activate the extra to clear up my inventory. Told me I already have it, restore the license or gtfo :D
edit: if you have the game installed, it will remain in your library list, even if you remove it. Maybe you have experience with that?
Unsure if you can start it, though.
Steam is messy, when X can mean Y, and you can restore "permanent removed" games within 10 seconds and with a few clicks.

that's a good point. it happens with expired free weekend subs as well - the game just sits in your library and asks you to buy it if you want to play

okay its not shows up in library from which you load games, but its still on your acc and i was able to see deleted game in my games tab on my profile steamcommunity page, thats what i meant. You can test it by yourself by removing a game you played, hover over your nickname, press games and type the name of a game you removed :)

No, it's not there... removed games are not in your library, or any visible lists. That's its point.
This is your third statement about the topic, and you clearly didn't check any one of them yourself. It would have taken 2 minutes to check that you don't write incorrect things each time. Please do better.

I stated only that deleted games is still on your acc(what you confirmed), then i explained to you what i mean by library and where it WAS visible for me BACK in the days... Thats why i said its in the library at first! In 3rd reply i explained step by step to you, because you didn't get it... Apologies for confusing usage of "my library", should have said "account". And i couldn't check it from browser at the time :)

Emailed Bandai Namco support. Their official answer is:
"Please note that the Enhanced Edition is only available as a pre-order bonus for the Standard and Deluxe Editions of Little Nightmares III. It is not included in the other editions."
I'll just let that sit here...

Regarding people like me, who have pre-ordered the game in 2017 and don't have the Enhanced Edition:
The Pre-Order got a different Sub then the game after release. The corresponding Sub no longer is listed on the Steam Store.
Bandai Namco, at least up to the time of this posting, have not manually added the Package of the Enhanced Edition to the Pre-Order Sub. You can see that here: https://steamdb.info/sub/141717/apps/
For relevance, here is the link to the Sub released after the release of the game, including the added Package of the Enhanced Edition: https://steamdb.info/sub/87193/apps/
So Bandai Namco just have to manually add the EE Package to the Pre-Order Sub. IF the people working there now know that there is an extra Sub for Pre-Orders, that is.

I had Sub 587308 and the enhanced edition just appeared in my library today.

Dropped them a second support ticket in hope to get a more competent support member who READS my ticket and escalates it to the back office.
But alas, I got the same incompetent support member as last time who tells me to check my Steam Store region and to do a search in my library because, typically, the EE can be found there.
So at this point, I give up and accept that Bandai Namco is totally incompetent to add the EE to the Pre-Order Sub ID and doesn't give a flying **** about their most loyal customers.
Okay, understood. No more money from me to you, then.
Comment has been collapsed.
If that is so, you did not pre-order the game and thus your license is for another Sub ID. The EE has been added to the normal version of the game released on release day, has been added to the Deluxe Edition, has been added to the free promotional package and has been added to the complete edition.
But it hasn't been added to the pre-order version, which you can clearly see by looking at SteamDB.
Pre-Order version: https://steamdb.info/sub/141717/apps/
Normal Retail version released on release day: https://steamdb.info/sub/87193/apps/
Deluxe Edition: https://steamdb.info/sub/182771/apps/
Complete Edition: https://steamdb.info/sub/182771/apps/
Free Promo Package: https://steamdb.info/sub/587308/apps/
P.S.: The Pre-Order Edition no longer is listed on the Steam Store. My guess is, that this is why they "don't find it" and didn't add the EE to it. As sad as that would be, this is my guess.

Mistakes can happen. Always and at any time. I myself did a lot of mistakes in my life.
What infuriates me is the utter lack of willingness to help by this one first level support member who gets routed my tickets. She - yes, it is a she, as it says in her replies - just has to escalate my ticket to the back office, to someone who is reponsible for maintaining the different Steam versions and the problem would be solved in minutes. But she flat out refuses to do so and asks for me to double check if the EE really is not in my library. Which clearly shows that she did not understand a single thing in my ticket
Thank you for your words of support, tho :)

I've just noticed Little Nightmares Enhanced Edition appear in my library, it seems it has been added to this package: https://steamdb.info/sub/87193/apps/ - which is the official store package - and to the Deluxe package as well. The enhanced edition, in turn, was delisted from Steam. Sadly no DLCs were added to the base game, but three (enhanced, I assume) appeared in the Deluxe version.
