Well the battery on my Xperia died today and I am going to send it in for repair tomorrow. At least my phone is still in warranty since it's less than a year old. Only thing is, I don't know how long the repair is going to take and how I am going to survive with my slow-ass backup phone (LG Optimus One)...

Never been a supporter of removable batteries, but I might change my mind after this.

Laggy phone, slow internet and crappy touchscreen. Real First World problems.

My phone is the Xperia SP, if anyone is wondering.

Battery dies? They will replace it in less than an hour if the warranty service is decent.

they likely fix any broken part in less than a hour by replacing it.
But if his phone is in a long repairque it still takes time.

Batteries get weak over time and die in the end. After a year, the battery will be quite weaker overall compared to when it was new. No way around that. It's the laws of physics. And it happens regardless of whether you use the battery or not. It WILL deteriorate.

Therefore, it makes zero sense to not have a removable battery. Literally ZERO.

I don't know, but the battery dying after just a year seems weird.

Actually, its Chemistry, not Physics, which dictates that batteries get weaker over time. I could explain, but the whole "rechargeable" aspect is really hard to grasp.

Rechargeable aspect is really just the reverse reaction for discharging really.

The chemical reactions are slightly complicated with the redox reactions and everything...

In a sense, yes. But AA batteries and cell phone batteries are far more complex than a single cell galvanic reaction. They're multi-layered and contain dozens of different compounds.

The reverse reaction wouldn't explain why the battery's charge decreases with time, either.

On a less argumentative note, its nice to see someone with a degree of scientific knowledge. Where'd you learn your Chemistry?

Chemistry is a higher-level aspect of physics. What I meant was probalby "laws of nature." The point was, that it's inevitable.

That first argument is false, but you're right that its inevitable. Maybe a true rechargeable battery is today's fantasy, but tomorrow's necessity, eh?

If particle physics describe electrons, arguably the most important particle in chemistry, then I'd say that chemistry is a higher level way of describing chemical reactions. It would not be practictal to use physics. But fundamentaly, chemistry is still bound by physics; you cannot have chemistry that defies the laws of physics.

But a knowledge of physics isn't required to do chemistry at an advanced level. Therefore the two are different subjects. Technically speaking, physics dictates everything.

Li-po batteries wont die or get any weaker at least within a year ........specially in a cellphone which has protective circuit that expands your battery life alot......

because batteries these days has a life cycle of 500(maybe more) ....this means 500 times of fully discharge and recharging your

battery to 100% and then its capacity drops to 80% and some less cycles capacity drops to 60 etc..... even if you do that everyday its gonna last at least more 6 months...

my old sonyericsson k850 battery still works pretty good.........

these kind of batteries are not easy to damage but they will and if they do they will expand and keeps charge for a lot less amount of time.....or wont keep any.......

on android platform software can cause these kind of problem.....(mostly people who try to root/unlock their phone and they dont know how so they will screw things up...)

Really? Why do you need a phone when you can be playing on steam? Like seriously, do you play on your phone while you play on the computer? Is not really needed if you are next to a landline or where all your contacts have you on steam/skype.

So really? A phone?

I don't Skype, mostly Whatsapp and SMS. And yes I do play games on my phone. Why not, when Amazon gives you $30 to spend on Android apps like GTA 3, Vice City and SA? Not to mention the fact that I am addicted to playing Scribblenauts on my phone, until the battery died that is. :)

I have friends on Steam, but I still need a phone, a mobile phone, preferably a smartphone that doesn't lag...

actually speaking of which: does gta sa and gta 3 necessary requires ike a Tegra chip phone to run smooth? as Im about to get a new phone and im looking for one that can handle these games too (apart the usual Minecraft Pocket, Max Payne, Dead Trigger)

it does not need a tegra chip, just a powerful phone, like the nexus 4 or better.

what about the sony x peria s or sp one? (from what I have seen, it technically speaking handles many game quite well, even GTA SA (not avalaible from Google Play though for some reason)
Most games I want to play seems to be compatible with it (tested it on my fathers phone since he does have the sp one ) just wondering about gta 3 and vice city

I have the Xperia SP, and it runs the games fine. The dual core Krait with Adreno 320 is actually faster than the quad core Exynos on the Galaxy S3. The only issue would be the lack of internal storage, since Android for some weird reason decides to install apps on internal memory since Jellybean. Nothing that can't be fixed with rooting your phone though.

The price is pretty good for places where the Nexus phones aren't available.

i didnt said that you shouldnt play on your phone, i did asked if you played on your phone WHILE playing on the computer.

2-3 days without a phone gives you enough time to beat a game or 2, no one distracts you. Scribbenauts is available for steam too.

But meh, you like to make a storm in a glass of water. W/E

I know the feeling, my current smartphone is about to die soon, and I have to wait until the 15th of july to get a new one >< (this is when my current phone contract expires so we can get a new one). Lrts just say that both the battery and the charger thingy got screwed up a lot, not sure why XD

hopefully I will ger a sony x peria sp, at least a more decent one than my current (samsung galaxy young, it sucks balls)

It used to be that batteries would acquire "charge memory." Basically, if you were to used up half the battery and then recharge it, over and over, again, the battery would eventually only carry half of its capacity with a charge. I don't know if that's still a problem or if modern technology has found ways around it, but I still use up the full battery before I recharge it.

Xperia Acro S, it's one of the old models I guess. Not that great for gaming, just use it for browsing mostly.

I've had an Xperia Arc for the past few years, and it handles alright with the little gaming I've done on it (I'm not one for portable gaming, I must say), though the battery gets drained pretty quickly, as you'd expect

I have had my i9000 since december 2010 and it still holds a decent charge with the stock battery it shipped with. Hopefully your battery was defective and isn't going to have to be replaced every year.

For me, if it's only SMS and calls, it'd be more expensive for my monthly bills. Over time, it will all add up - so I'd be better off with Smartphone from the start.

How many keys for your dead phone, do you take dota keys? lololol :P

Seriously though that's worrying, I just bought my mum a sony xperia and she isn't the best with technology so I'm hoping this won't become a problem with her.
Honestly I'm a big supporter of removable batteries, gone through enough of them to know I definitely need a removable one lol.
