Hey guys,

so I am looking for some great MP FPS fun and was browsing my library to find a good game. Since it's been a while that I've played a good multiplayer FPS I figured I'd ask you guys first!

I am NOT looking for mainstream casual FPS games like Overwatch, CS:GO, Battlefield series or Call of Duty.

What I'm actually looking for is games like TOXIKK, Quake Champions, Quake 3 Arena or anything kinda retro for that matter. Somewhat indie, somewhat retro, somewhat great.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any input and have a great day!

I really like Verdun, but it is much more slow paced

Oh yeah I actually own that one. Are there still enough people playing?

Last time I played it in November and there was always a full game in frontlines and several squad defence games. Deathmatch was quite dead and was difficult to find a game. Always speaking of US servers. I'd rather play SA servers but they were empty.

You should keep an eye out on green man gaming then. They have become their publisher and are giving it away as promo when buying certain things there. I got 6 copies by buying GMG credit but i've also seen it included as extra game when buying something else.

Considering that Call of Duty 4 is 11 years old, we can say it is "unpopular" and not mainstream so I'll go with CoD4 :) Especially mods.

Have you tried the reboot? Is it any good?

All my CoD mates are saying it's bad, not that much people play multiplayer and it's pay to win, 90 FPS lock, etc. Based on their opinion, I didn't buy remaster. Playing original

+1 !
CoD4 is love.
Still a lot of active servers and endless possibilities due to the mods.
What's even better: A lot of these servers are still maintained! Meaning: Serveradmins/mods that enforce the specific server rules (:

If you look for a good HC FFA server I can recommend the OGHF (located in the UK, so probably not recommendable if you're from the US) server.

One shooter I personally play since 2010 is Crossfire NA. Meanwhile it's pay2win. You get overpowered weapons if you cash a lot. Period.
But if you have a small amount of skill you can still win with the "normal" guns.

  • A lot of events where you can get ZP crates (ZP = real money currency ingame)

Darkest hour europe. Its a mod for the original red orchestra and a great game if you like something very hardcore/realistic. Usually enough players on most nights to fill a server.

+1 and surprisingly is still being maintained and updated.

Killing Floor 2 or Left 4 Dead 2. Those are PvE, I don't know if it's good, or you're looking for PvP.

We were only 100 online/day a year ago so I think the MP is quite dead now but it really is a great game

So Blood and Bacon is unpopular now? I'm guessing unpopular is anything that's not the current trend then :P

I don't know of any good arena shooters, so can't recommend those.

I can recommend Insurgency which is a shooter that aims for a more realistic experience than generic shooters (no crosshairs or ammo counter, 1-2 bullets is enough for a kill with most weapons).

I tried Black Squad and it's a very generic F2P shooter. I wouldn't say it's a bad game though, I actually did enjoy playing it once I got used to it and the F2P model is surprisingly fair as you gain in-game money relatively fast and you can buy weapons permanently. I stopped playing it due to meh community though.

I was excited about the upcoming F2P shooter called Ironsight which seems to be heavily inspired by CoD games, but unfortunately since Aeria Games will publish it; the game will probably be pay to win. I'll definitely give it a try as soon as it comes out though.

America's Army: Proving Grounds Something in between CS and Insurgency. Previous games from this series were much slower and realistic but yet gameplay still remains tactical. Fully F2P without any microtransactions.

I am pretty sure Quake Champions is very much in the casual category, if we put CS:GO and Overwatch there as well. It is another thing that despite its F2P/P2W status, currently as I write this, SteamSpy shows a whopping zero people playing it. Then again, I do not expect anything better from a multiplayer game touched by Bethesda.

You can get killing floor 2 and rising storm 2 pretty cheap in the humble bundle. Especially killing floor is a fun casual chill shooter.
