The other day, what I think was a pop-up appeared on my screen.
Never seen anything like that before, I don't know if I did something to trigger it or if it was just a bug/glitch/error.

Looking at it, seems to be something generated from Steam but it's different from Steam's usual popups: those appear on the lower-right corner of the screen while this was on the upper-right area (but not anchored to the corner/edges of the screen); also their dimension is different: this one is shorter/slimmer and longer/wider compared to standard ones.
Couldn't close it, it stayed there for a couple of hours (maybe more) and then disappeared.

I'm asking here 'cause the content refers to GAs, so it's obviously something related to this place, probably belonging to a certain group.
Asked already in Playing Appreciated thread but Reforced said he doesn't know anything about it.

<EDIT>
Forgot to say I only have Enhanced Steam installed and the "monthly theme script" for BLAEO (doesn't interfere with Steam), nothing else.
Also, the pop-up looked like something generated from the Steam client, not from the web version. (Look at its font and colours)
</EDIT>

UPDATE:

As jbondguy007 explained, is most probably generated by a client's glitch.
I'd say this case is pretty much closed.. thanks for your time :)
</UPDATE>

Have you seen something like this before?
Can you help me?
Any info is appreaciated.
Thanks for your time :)

Have you seen something like this before?

I don't think so. Could it be part of some script you have installed in your browser?

Looks can be deceiving. And script doesn't need to change steam pages in order to create a gray popup with white letters and use a font similar to one steam client uses.

I know..
Guess I associated it with Steam client because I think I first saw it while I was using the client.. but I'm not 100% sure of this :\

Very odd if it was the client itself. Then I'm out of guesses but the content surely looks like part of some script intended to monitor peoples playtime and progress.

Yup, that's why I immediately thought it was something from Playing Appreciated, since it's the only group I'm in which does these kind of checks..

Possibly a notice about something removed from the group forum like Lypiphera pointed out below. I'm not familiar with these kind of notices though, maybe it's something from enhanced steam?

I've been using Enhanced Steam for a while now and it never happened before.
Also, since Enhanced Steam recently modified their "authorization needs" and Chrome flagged it as suspicious, I went and read recent entries in their changelog but I recall nothing that could be connected to this.

I've been kicked from groups before and the relative notification is completely different..
Riedy said something about group chats; the message does look like something you could write in a chat, but I wasn't in any at that moment..

No idea. It might help to know if you saw it in the Steam Client or on your browser.

Edit: Judging by your Edit I assume browser ?

I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty confident it appeared while I was using the client (thanks, couldn't remember "client" no matter what). Also, the style matches usual client popups.

That was posted somewhere in relation to the group, I vaguely remember it, but I can't seem to find it. Perhaps it was a notice of its deletion?

This sounds as it would be the most likely explanation if those kind of notices are a thing. I think I have a faint recollection of the message myself no that you mention it.

Do you mean you read that message before?

I was waiting for a Steam notification to pop-up to make a screenshot of it but none appeared yet.
That way it would have been easier to compare them and notice differences.

I just found the original discussion that spawned the message in your screenshot.

So yes, I think it's a notification from a Steam forum 😉, did you subscribe to it?

Looks like the Steam search function doesn't work well with numbers.

In case someone else's interested, I write also here:
I wasn't subscribed to that discussion and not sure if I had read that at all. Plus, it's a month-old thread.
Also, pop-up from hovering over the thread in discussions page is different. The pic is cropped, left out OP and last commenter.

Clearly not Enhanced Steam, and pop-up from Steam should be black, your is grey.
Based on the content of that pop-up, Have you installed any Script which check [how many games Played / how many games Won] of Steamgifts's Users? I see ppl here installed it a lot lately.

Unless that script has become sentient and tries to enslave humanity by making us play all our unplayed games that script normally doesn't check up on people unless you tell it to :D

Totally agree, I just saw it and immediately thinking about that script, just said in case it was out of someone's hands or OP accidently activated a new function. But seem it was not like that.ヽ( ͝° ͜ʖ͡°)ノ

I know it's (a lot) different from usual Steam notification, that's why I'm asking.
and nope, I have none of those scripts.

btw, it recalls some of the client's parts though:

Ah yes, those looks like a normal Steam pop-up, then probably from Steam client, very weird. At this point I have no idea how to fix, but in case you find these notification annoying and want to turn them off completely, you can go to Settings and turn off all groups notification, Steam just added that function recently.

Wow, I'm a bit surprised nobody else ever encountered this before (it happens to me all the time). Allow me to explain the possible reason for this.

Basically, this appears when you hover your mouse over some things in the Steam client. However, sometimes these "description boxes" glitch and stay on your screen even after you've stopped hovering your mouse over anything - it'll even stay there after closing Steam (although completely exiting Steam/killing the process will solve the issue). I know for sure that one way to reproduce the glitch is to find one of these hover boxes again, click on the item "making" the pop-up, holding down the mouse button then dragging it off the item. At this point, the pop-up will be stuck on your screen until you hover on the item again, after which it will function properly again.

This pop-up also appears on discussions, however I couldn't figure out a way to reproduce the glitch. Anyways, I'm almost absolutely sure this is what you've experienced. :P

In fairness, there's a difference between seeing it happen with other things, and making the connection to it happening with group discussions. I've personally not yet seen it happen with discussions, though it doesn't surprise me to learn it happens there as well.

I don't have a VR icon in my client where you do, but the Big Picture Mode hoverbox has done that for me before. Seems to happen any time you accidentally drag off of the icon and let go. Weird that it'd happen for discussions, namely since those are blue-background hoverboxes, rather than grey ones. [Likewise, I can't reproduce it on discussions using the drag approach, either.]

Are you using any Steam client reskins or anything?

Nope, Steam default vanilla. It's a glitch that has been around as long as I can remember.

Well, Steam is certainly known for its irregular glitches (I and a few others, for example, have had our steam chat bugged since the Halloween update year before last; I believe the majority of steam users weren't affected). The background color not really matching to anything does kinda make it a bit of an unusual circumstance, however.

Wow very small details you noticed, I never experience this with Steam, but I've seen it happened with some other apps.
The point is that not everyone encounter this bug, and it suddenly happened with OP, which never before, so that's mean something was changed and triggered that bug in his system. ಠ_ಠ

Ooh :O
This appears to be very close to what I experienced, thanks!

Managed to reproduce what you did with VR button with my Big Picture one.

Couldn't reproduce it with discussion though.
Made a snapshot of it and you can see it's a bit different in size from the other one; furthermore, I didn't succeed in placing this in the same position as that, but this could be due to the different sizes.

Different size, position of the client, and position of the discussion, yes. I think it happens sometimes if you move your mouse quickly over a discussion before closing Steam/navigating away, but that's just an assumption.
