Greetings everyone.

The truth is that I'm a backlogger. I've been more than 2 years trying to get back into gaming, but all I do is collect lots of games and take months to complete the simplest game. That means that most of the games I've won here have been tested and "played" to some extent, but not really played the way they should have been, when others could (maybe) have enjoyed them much more.

While most of the games I get are from (mostly) cheap bundles, I also enter lots and lots of giveaways here. I'm also keeping an eye on threads and places to get games that are free for a while, get them from promotions, etc. You can imagine.

I've always had this kind of compulsive collecting behaviour, and I know it's roots. Trying to fill a void inside that is never going to be satisfied with this stuff. Once it was books, once it was movies (DVD/BR), and other things. Now it's games. This is neither sane nor healthy.

And much more, it's unfair to many giveaway makers who wish that their games are enjoyed, not just added to an idle library or got for a +1 and cards. Also unfair to the SG members who are really grateful for their wins and play them when they're able. This has also caused me to get out some whitelist, and get in some blacklist; both things certainly deserved.

So before continuing, if you want to get me off your whitelist or into your blacklist, feel free to do so, no hard feelings.

And why all this now? A few weeks ago I took the decision to go semi-inactive in SG for at least one year. I'll also try to buy way less bundles and in general don't make my backlog get out of control. With semi-inactive I don't mean I'm abandoning SG for a year, or more. Just that I'll not enter every giveaway I can. I think only certain games in my wishlist, or whitelisted gibs for interesting games, for example. I've also saved some keys to make one giveaway a week, I have for 6 months and I think I'll be getting enough to cover the next year.

The rest of keys are going to be dumped here and there in various giveaways and threads, most of them ending on October the 1st - that'll be my third cakeday.

I hope this leads me to stop wanting to grow my collection in a compulsive way. I've also started to write reviews for all games I've finished and I'm finishing, I hope that will help me get back into gaming after more than 2 years of trouble with that.

Bump at your own discretion.

Without further ado, the giveaways

I've made a total of 80 giveaways that can be found around SG, if you're in the right groups, or linked directly or indirectly from this post.

First of all, I'm making this train (minor bot protection) for levels 3 to 7, with 61 carts. Most of the keys I have, just reserving some for the weekly giveaway and also the threads and events mentioned below. Unlike other of my trains, this one doesn't contain a section only for my whitelist.

I'm also dropping some in the currently ongoing Community Train 8.0 organized by FiddlerOnTheWeb (carts 1426 onwards).

Also a few ones in the Don't Like Bots thread and in the Positive Thread. Every week I'll put one giveaway randomly in one of those threads too.

I've also gifted 2 keys to 2 friends, saved 2 keys for a group, and made 2 giveaways to the 2 "delete gib if it doesn't work" groups I know of: Lootboy SG and Delete giveaway if key is not working (join freely if you agree with their rules).

Finally, I'll be dropping a variety of other stuff in the Anti-ninjas key drops and Lootboy Related Stuff threads. Coupon codes, in-game objects or currency, some apps, some Itch.io games IIRC, etc.

Oh and the same rule from all my previous trains keeps going for this train and any giveaway I make - winning yet not being polite will be considered extreme rudeness, so if you want to know why you're blacklisted, that's one of the possible explanations.

I guess I'll not become completely silent, but I am going low-profile in other places too, and not entering giveaways in communities I've been part of.

So, see you around.

bumped at my discretion too... thanks for the train and all the giveaways! Good luck with your upcoming life changes. Hopefully you can find things that make you happy rather than just trying to fill a void.

I know the feeling. In my case i have a hard time sticking with anything (adhd part of the reason, at least in part i think) and follow whatever im in the vibe for, wich shifts all the time, so i can be well into a game and overnight just feel like i want a completely different genre, and that playthrough gets paused until whenever i feel like playing that genre again... and by the time it comes around i have even more titles of said genre to try on.
It also doesnt help when some titles get too long, grindy, backtracking... the way im finnicky with such a big backlog it often takes 1 section thats too boring, hard or buggy for me to put it away 'for a few days'(so i plan) and end up getting lost in other titles, taking months to go back

On top of that im into gaming way more for the fun of playing (the act of it, x hours having a good time in a rainy day) then things like completing or challenge... and i feel like im too hooked on novelty and variety (again my adhd), wich every game can only have so many, so by the time a game stops introducing new mechanics, enemies etc its generally when i end up stopping, and only coming back when it would feel fresh again (like after playing entire different genres for awhile)

I bet i got some blacklists or whatever for that, but i dont sweat over it, cant expect everyone to understand. Everyone have their preferences and habits, once i felt anxious for not sticking with things like most people but then i made my peace with it, its just how i am and how i enjoy things - and in my case i prefer my way. Im like that with everything, including series, reason why im currently still enjoying Vikings and Better Call Saul for example- i dont binge, 1 sometimes 2-3 episodes a week, pause between seasons... I enjoy much more series by not binging it, and in my head and how i enjoy games going 8, 30, 80 hours playing just 1 game is akin to binging

Dont ostracize yourself over it. Everyone takes things their way, at their pace. But i agree with you the thing we can change is the hoarding- i still do, some bundles and sales, but nowhere near the extent i once did and on SG i started just entering for games im currently in the mood of playing, leaving the 'i want it, but not now' for bundles/sales only.

and Thanks for the train!

Ps, a tip perhaps: one thing that worked for me(if you have the disk space for it) is installing a select couple of titles at once- not too much but not too few- and playing a bit of each until youve played a bit of all installed. Wichever title you feel like repeating, do so, wichever you feel like not now, uninstall... i do that until im with a couple of 'playing now' that fits what im in the vibe for right now. Then you stick to those until completion or burnout, and cycle some more again

I try to do that, could work for 1 single 'playing to complete' (but for me its always like 5 or so i play concurrently) - and in the end i also happen to stumble into shorter/simpler titles that since theyre already installed and being played i end up completing anyway, that i wouldnt have done so right away.

...and sometimes some titles just suck. At least nowadays i avoid those in GAs and bundles better, since bundled games are more firesure to get enough reviews so i can avoid red flags, but im still baited by hype and flashy indies that dont meet the expectation. Our time in this world is limited- if something isnt being fun or just frustrating doesnt really make sense to go through just for completing sake. That time spent having no fun couldve been spent in another neglected gem more deserving, some other hobby etc, etc. Ive had more then a few 'good games/ideas until they grind the fun out', so i just leave until who knows when with no guilt

Yea, that definitely hits close to home. My only wish for you is to not exchange one compulsion for one that is far less healthy. Best of luck to you on this break for stability!

Happy Cake Day!
The situation you are in, I think it is normal to happen. We will not play, read, watch with the same passion if we fall into something mediocre or bad, by our own standards. We lose interest for a while. So, take your time.
And something that might help you, in case you don't know... you can make a collection on Steam of the games that really interest you at the moment, so most of them don't distract you.
