THANK YOU ALL. I BOUGHT --> FALLOUT: NEW WEGAS ULTIMATE EDITION + JUST CAUSE COLLECTION

I want to buy Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But should I buy the base games or Fallout 3 GOTY and Fallout New Vegas Ultimate Edition. Please consider the price while suggesting. If I am goint to buy with DLC's. I will get just one of them. And I am not complately stranger to this games. I played Fallout 3 before and it is really nice game. Also do you think Just Cause collection ( 1 and 2 +dlc ) is worth to buy at %80

Can't comment on the Fallout games, but the Just Cause Collection is definitely worth it. If it's much more expensive than just JC2, then just get that game, it's got amazing graphics, a big open world, and a fantastic multiplayer mod for extra fun.

I have Fallout 3 base off of steam and was hoping to get New Vegas Ultimate this sale, but my steam wallet cant stretch the 66% off. Should I get the base or make myself suffer by waiting longer?

Someone already answered that question. Don't get base game from Bethesda. They never do a good sale on DLCs. When you wanna get those you are forced to buy a GOTY edition of the game cos it's always cheaper then the pack of DLCs. It's up 2 you if you wanna play get the game and enjoy really. Maybe you won't look back to DLCs maybe Bethesda will finally do 75% off DLCs the day you decide to get expansions

new vegas is fine as the core version but has some nice dlc, fallout 3 feels like an incomplete game without its goty dlc.
Regarding Just Cause 2, you don't really need any of the dlc but if any of the weapons or vehicles seem like they'd be fun you could go for it.

the dlcs really improve the experience in 3 especially the one that fixes and extends the ending. 4ish more dollars for all the dlc on new vegas is a good deal especially since they never discount the individual dlcs all that impressively.

I've never played the Just Cause games or Fallout New Vegas, so I can't help you there, but regarding Fallout 3 (and from what I've read and know about Bethesda this would include NV as well) if you have any interest at all in the DLC you should get the complete edition right away. They really don't discount the DLC individually, so if you buy the base game and then want the full package later you'd still be better off buying the full edition rather than the individual DLCs. The Fallout 3 content is quite substantial, so you definitely get your moneys worth.

If you do have the ability to grab both Fallouts, you can use a mod called A Tale of Two Wastelands, which links them together as one giant game (and since it's running through NV, you get all of the game's improvements when you're in FO3's areas --- do note you need ALL DLCs for this mod iirc).

If not, I'm somewhat partial to NV (plus if you get FO3 somewhere down the line, you can still install the mod I mentioned while keeping your NV save).

Also, Just Cause 2 is a blast. Grappling hooks, explosions, planes... Totally worth it. :) Haven't played 1 yet though.

You can link the two Fallout games together?! :O

Yup: https://taleoftwowastelands.com/ (Site is down atm, maybe due to sales? lol Basically, it adds a train to travel between both regions - followers travel too! ...plus plenty of tweaks to make the differences in items, karma, etc. work properly for both games)

You even get to stay on NV's engine in 3's areas. And while they don't officially support using NV saves in it, I've never had a problem with mine (won't work with 3's saves though). Other mods might conflict, but graphics mods, extras followers, etc. don't seem to, plus there are mods reworked specifically to work with A Tale of Two Wastelands.

Fallout DLC always adds a lot. The ones for Fallout 3 are all expansions with new Items, areas, quest, etc. Totally worth it.

i played and love both games very much
but id rather get one game with all the dlcs then both without them.
As to decide which one tho, i cant really help you. But the good thing is you really cant go wrong
both games are awesome. you have to expect some bugs and glitches tho ;)
cant tell you anything for the just cause series, since i didnt have time to play them yet

Fallout 3 have some great DLCs. New Vegas, not so much.
So I would say either buy Fallout 3 GOTY, or you could buy New Vegas base game and get Fallout 3 GOTY later from another reseller than Steam, you can get it cheaper than that.

I can't get it lover from other places because of the region, It is little bit cheaper in my country

Permalink

Then definitely get the GOTY edition of Fallout 3, and if you still have enough for the base edition of New Vegas, get it as well. NV DLCs doesn't add as much to the base game, so it's not a big deal if you don't get the GOTY edition for this one.

So what if I say that I played the F3 before without DLC's. Would your suggestion still same

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah if you already played it, you can get NV now if you want.
My main point was that when you'll get Fallout 3, definitely go for the GOTY edtion rather than the regular one.
But for New Vegas, I don't think the DLCs are worth the price difference (don't know how it is in your region, but here it is 2.49€ vs. 6.79€)

Console shooter dungeon crawler with no story, zero-dimensional characters, great map design and lots of killing and dungeons: Fallout 3.
Old-school cRPG with lots of dialogue, branching plot lines with choices and consequences, bad combat (and several punishments implemented for trigger-happy players) and mediocre world map: New Vegas.

Shorter version: if you want to use your brain, New Vegas. If not, just kick back and shoot dumbly, Fallout 3. If you want to not use any brain cells at all and shoot even more in hardcore action, wait for Fallout 4.
And if you really want something tactical, slow-paced and with up to a hundred hours of pure storyline and strategical combat, Fallout 1/2. If nothing but strategical combat, then Fallout Tactics.

Honestly I'd hold off on buying Fallout 3 or New Vegas right now. The GOTY/Ultimate Editions were 75% off several times before, so I don't think you should buy it at 66% off (of course, it depends if you really want to play them right now or you're fine with waiting). Some other sites sell them even cheaper than that occasionally, for example GamersGate had Fallout 3 @ 2.5 euros, and GamesPlanet had NV @ 3.8 euros.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I bought Fallout 3 GOTY on GamersGate for 2.5€, but now they have raised the base price from 10 to 20€
GamesPlanet are the only ones that still sell it for 10€ but the lowest price they had was 3.40€.

Well, that's half the price of what steam's selling it for right now, so it's still a better deal nonetheless.

Edit: Well, nevermind. Forgot to check the OP's region, so I guess buying it on steam is the best for him.

If you have plans to buy both F3 and FNV in future take F3+DLC first and FVN+DLC later. They both are good games but after FNV F3 was little boring for me.

So since I played F3 before ( without DLCs). Should I directly buy the NW with DLC

Permalink

There is only one F3 DLC which was interesting for me - Point Lookout.
In NV all DLC are great.

If I'd have a chance to buy only one of them I'd choose NV. But I have booth of them already... And classics Fallout too)

Good luck at Capital or Mojave Wasteland.

Strange. Point Lookout is usually considered the worst DLC. Not just for Fallout 3, in general among the worst DLCs ever. It was designed so poorly it literally cheats: all enemies in it have a cheat script running on them.

O_o I didn't know that. Now it's clear for me why that fight in mansion was so hard. But anyway, I love that story, even that stupid quest with Krivbeknih)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep. It was hard because every time an enemy attacks, the game automatically damages you for 45 HP, no matter what level you are and what armour you are wearing: and their "normal" damage is added on top. Also, they have more HP and "armour" (even though they wear loin clothes) than most super mutants and some behemoths in the normal campaign.

Anyway, I've killed them all.)

The hardest enemy (for me personally) was invisible aliens and "things" from Mothership Zeta DLC, I really hate them. Maybe they was so hard to kill for me 'cause it is not enough space for some maneuver at alien ship. Or 'cause I always play games on hardest possible difficulty... Who knows.

P.S.: F3 was my first Fallout game. I've tried to play F1 few times, but it always crashes on my Win7. I've bought classic Fallout today and I hope Steam versions will work normal on Win7 (like SW:KOTOR2).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

They don't, although I know that Fallout 2 has community patches to fix that (either the normal compatibility one or even better, the Restoration Project that return cut content).
The aliens are actually a joke if you use the stealth suit and sword from the Anchorage DLC. And the force-field aliens can be blown up with a grenade in the pants. That DLC only has one tough point, the levitation chamber where aliens just pour in for five minutes and they are constantly set to be in alerted mode.

As I wrote it on the thread, I am not new to the serie, I played F3 before

That means you are new to the series. Until Fallout 4 comes out, FO3 is the bastard child of the franchise: something that has nothing to do with any of the previous Fallout games in any kind of sense (gameplay, genre, core mechanics, additional mechanics, lore, you name it).
If you would be not new to the series, people would say New Vegas without hesitation, since it is actually continuing the broad storyline started in Fallout 1/2.

Fallout 3 GOTY > Fallout NV GOTY for me
The reason is pretty simple. F3 has a more "realistic" environment and story for a post-nuclear world. Also the eastereggs in the game are pure genious and there is more roleplay.
FNV feels way too optimistic for a post-nuclear world, plus the main quests are kinda boring(you're a courrier, so it's you going from X to Y)

Fallout stopped being post-apocalyptic after Fallout 1 though. You know the whole two centuries after the war thing. Fallout 2 was already about the expansionist politics of a decade-old police state and their struggles with organised drug lord backed paramilitary groups and xenophobic city states. Tactics was nothing but a large campaign to carve out a military-controlled land in the Midwest by uniting several tribes and teaching them modern warfare against a rebellious robot army.

And in Fallout 3… in 200 hundred years nobody had the time to make a broom. Or to get some seeds for farming. Or to build a wall.

That's because they are placed in different states, which means different time for radioactivity to low down and not kill you in 2 hours. Still i think that F3 wastelands were more immersive than a fully functional New Vegas with high life standards and ruled by a 200-year guy with a robot army.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That is not how radioactivity works. To the point that actually the whole main quest is literally stupid since water would have lost all traces of radiactivity in a few decades, let alone 200 years. Not to mention that getting radiation-free water did not need a magical tower of magicness (especially one that needed a GECK, which is just a briefcase full of genetically altered wheat seeds) but a simple everyday mass-produced charcoal filter.

But yes, the map design was awesome. Bethesda Game Studios was always good at making maps. granted, they fundamentally fail at almost every other game design aspect, but the maps are the best in the video game industry.
