Does it drop cards?

Nope. None of the temporarily free games on steam drop cards since march or april when valve changed how free games are handled.

Hi, is this free version of AoW 3 will drop cards after free period is over ?
I still have humble bundle for this, but why not activating free game :D

No it won't. Maybe that will change in the future but so far all games that were activated as "Limited Free Promotional Package" did not drop cards even after the promotions were over. Additionally you're not able to get random booster drops for those games but you can craft boosters and what is the most important for me you can play the game.

Eternal Lords and Golden Realms add some nice variety and options that should have been included with the base game. Not worth full price, but good to pick up on sale.

Deluxe Edition really doesn't add much.

Skip deluxe edition, but do look into the DLC. They add quite a lot of new content, including more campaigns. The base game does have a fare amount of content as is, and with the DLC you're likely looking at over 100h to just beat all the campaigns.

100h ? OO Wow !

Yeah. I'm making a very rough estimate here, as I've not played the expansion campaigns, but the base game campaigns can easily take you close to 30h each, unless you're really good at these types of games, if you're going for both endings (and replaying the level where they split). But this is really quite typical for games like this. The Heroes of Might and Magic games are also very lengthy, as are the disciples and Etherlords games as well (well, at least the first Etherlords, I've not beaten Etherlords 2)

ouch. this sounds tempting.

how you'd rate it? good? very good? ...or very very good?

thanks, F!

I would say it's very good with a few caveats. Main one being that the different races feel quite similar, and most of the difference instead comes from your main character's class, which will have a larger impact on how you play than the races, which was a little bit disappointing for me, as Age of Wonders 1 managed to make the different races feel more distinct. The game also does not reward you for sitting back and building up an army, which some people might take issues with, instead it wants you to expand aggressively.

I tried replaying Heroes III the pinnacle of the series, and it's really tough now to spend an hour playing, realize I messed up, and start over, because I've barely even started the level

Heroes of Might and Magic 5 is the best!
I think there's one thing we all can agree on though, and that's that HoMM 7 is a complete mess.

to be fair, I don't recall 5 at al I know I've played 4 and 5, but, they didn't grip be as much as 3, and I lost interest

I though 5 had a better main campaign than the earlier games, with a more compelling story (something that previous HoMM games really missed. 2 had an alright one I guess), but my main reason for preferring 5 over the other ones is how heroes take a more active role in battle.

Great catch.

Sadly I bought this before the first free day, I am now just going to wait until they are free through steam or one of the bundle sites. It seems everything eventually is free now. And why not. We don't own the games only the ability to use them while the platform allows us too.
