I have been eyeing the walking dead games for a bit now and today they are on daily deal. Should I buy it? (Yes, it's another of those threads, sorry :P) Only season 1? Wait for better price (quite sure season 1 was a bit cheaper few months ago on gamersgate)? Thanks :)

What should I get?

Nothing, wait
I have no idea of what to suggest

Season 1 + DLC + Season 2 , the game is Really good ... it's on a daily deal so it will be hard that the game drops even lower.

If you like this kind of game (especially Telltale's version of Adventure games), its usually a much better deal to pick up the package with everything in it.

I figured Steam had one, but they don't. But I've seen it on a few other sites. Unfortunately, none of them have it on sale at the moment.

Yep I have Season 1 and DLC and i'm playing through them and Season 2 is the only game i have bought and will buy this sale ;3 ! If you like the story, tough choices and point and click, you should 100% buy Season 1 + DLC + Season 2.

Well the TV show and the game don't cross stories ( as far as i know, i'm still on season 1 ). There are some appearances of TV show people in the game, but nothing major. In my opinion the story is really good. The main problem is, will you enjoy the gameplay? It's a point and click game with some minor puzzles and QTE sequences.

Telltale games are really different. The most iritating thing in walking dead is that sometimes even if you know that something will go wrong (like you see blood on the floor and you know Lee can slip on it) you still got to do that, there is no option for those that see more. Is that game even similiar to show? Not really, you can give this game a try, but I would give it only 5/10 and it's still overrating for me. I like telltale games and this one deserves lower price...

I loved it all, the 400 days DLC isnt very good its kind of short, but its pretty important for the preparation of the 2nd season :)

If you can buy them all do it! i really enjoyed this games, and if you can you should also buy wolf among us! :D

If he is going to buy Wolf Among Us, i suggest he waits until the last day to see if they are going to put it at 75% off again.

They get great reviews, and they are not bad games. - Like Sisyphus17 mentioned, "if you like those kind of games" (Telltale). To me it felt to much like a "Dragon's Lair" and I felt kind of restricted... that might not be the right word... but it felt more like an interactive novel than a game. Again - if you like Telltale games, the art and story are fantastic. I think I am starting to ramble a little bit, sorry about that. :)

I'd say at 75% off it's worth it's money and some more. If you like the TWD franchise you're sure to get your money's worth back and imo it's important to support studios such as these that keep providing one enjoyable title after another. So I'd say both seasons + DLC :P

I would say that both are well worth getting. Do not buy S2 before S1, the stories are connected, and not only will S1 be spoiled that way, many scenes in S2 will lose their impact if you've not played S1. Just be prepared for games where the gameplay is not all that interesting, it's just there to support the excellent story.

I can give a not trusted opinion because i hate zombies, but i got both seasons, the first one was like a chore to complete it because like i said i hate zombies and everything related, the last 10 minutes on season 1 made me buy also season 2, weird ha... im idiot.

Edit: i forget to add that i never played season 2 yet.

I've played S1 and it's a great game. The price is ok atm (-75%). The price for a S2 is definitely good (also -75%), but I haven't played it yet, so can't tell much about the game itself.

Buy S1, play it till the end of season then if you think you like the game theme, buy the S2 later on another 75% discount !

The DLC is crap, season 2 is crap. Season 1 is a masterpiece of pure art

IMO get just the first season

Why do you think that the second season is crap?

  • Feels rushed (mostly in the last 2 chapters)
  • No really good characters (the very only ones that are midly pasable are Luke and Nick)
  • They took 2 great characters out of the screen in the first 10 minutes
  • Bad villain since no one really tell us anything about him other than "hur dur he is mean just because he wants to defend us"
  • The plot/knot starts at a very advance part of the game instead of an early stage like usual (and like in season 1)
  • One great character (SPOILER: Kenny) becomes the biggest asshole of the franchise just to try to make a plot (bad move writers)

As for the DLC, its not totally bad but they put the player in situations that are not totally explained with characters that doesnt develop themselves and we dont get to see the protagonist till the 3rd chapter of S2 AAAAAND we only see them for 5 seconds....

But its all about personal tastes, if you like S2 its ok

Fair enough. I didn't like the second season as much as the first one, but I haven't really been able to put a finger on why, exactly, which is partly why I asked for clarification. Kenny was always an irrational asshole, though... I didn't think he was acting out-of-character, especially considering what he went through after the first season.

Buy the first season and try it. If you like it, buy 400 Days and season 2. Absolutely worth the price.

The S1 was great, I'd recommend getting it
Haven't played S2 yet, but I expect it to be as good as S1

Try for S2 here

Season 1 has been cheaper on amazon like one year ago, it was also BTA in the Humble Weekly Telltale back in 2013, but those probably aren't going to happen again, or anytime soon and 75% off is good enough in my opinion.

As far as the games go, Season 1 is very good, Season 2 is still decent, but not nearly as good as 1 in my opinion and 400 days is really short and skippable in my opinion, the only thing is that some characters from 400 days appear in Season 2, still not worth the 1.24 euros in my opinion.

I'm surprised no one suggested this. If you are unsure if you want it or not, and if you have a smart phone good enough, the first episode is free. Try it out there to get a taste.

I enjoyed everything, but I did like season one the best of all.

Spoilerd section below:

Season one always had a balance between being fearful for Lee's life and being fearful for Clementine's. If one of them was in a precarious situation, there was a thought of what do you do, or what would you do, who to prioritise? I liked that dynamic. In season 2 we've obviously only got Clem of the 2 original main characters so all my focus was with her and trying to help her survive. I felt encouraged to play much more selfishly as a result and was happily screwing other people over all the time if I felt it would help. There wasn't as many dilemmas. I felt invunerable and overpowered as a character in Season 2 as well. It was quite shocking to me when she got shot, but other than that Clem was kicking backsides like she was some kind of super hero and I didn't really fear for her much of the time . She's still supposed to be a young girl and yes, she's toughened up because of all she's been through, but I just didn't feel afraid for her as much and kind of knew she'd be ok no matter the situation. Can't remember the name of the character who told her the others were holding her back - she was right, 'cause Clem was a badass who could handle business on her own and that felt weird considering her age.
