Anyway it's starting to spread larger and larger in countries and throughout the whole world, are you scared, are you prepared or you act like it's just like the flu?

You can be sick for 14 days without any symptoms but you will infect others for that time.

The virus is airborne and very infectious even before you show any symptoms at all, so if you are living with parents you may be putting them at risk just by being there. Your employer is irresponsible in not telling everyone to get tested immediately as your workplace is now a point of contact for the virus and health officials need to be able to track that in order to control spread of disease. Best of luck to you and hope did not catch it, but really best to know now if you are a carrier.

Vaccine still takes 2 years it says, but the cure should be months... IF IT WORKS.
Yeah, they are not even sure on that, so seems a little premature to cheer.

Where did you see 'months' - I looked around for the testing time frame and couldn't find it. I doubt the therapy would be ready in time to stem the first wave, but maybe it will be ready for the second one, which could tide us over until a vaccine is ready.

It takes at least six months to test and manufacture the flu vaccine, and that's with decades of experience and knowledge of the disease, so any coronavirus vaccine would take at least that long on the best timeline.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

This is not a vaccine though, but a treatment called mononclonal antibody (mAb), which is a new technology being used for cancers and other diseases. Of course, you are right, a vaccine will take much longer - 1-2 years is the current estimate that I see a lot.

Folding@home (FAH or F@h) is a distributed computing project for disease research that simulates protein folding, computational drug design, and other types of molecular dynamics. The project uses the idle processing resources of personal computers owned by volunteers who have installed the software on their systems. Its main purpose is to determine the mechanisms of protein folding, which is the process by which proteins reach their final three-dimensional structure, and to examine the causes of protein misfolding.

News from Poland.

We all know that COVID-19 will not only kill some people but it will also hurt the economy. People will need work, food, money after they survive.

Well... our government decided to buy 210 limousines for their politicians...

Sorry but we got only links in polish about this:

So far I'm not gonna do anything different than I've done before. If I'll get sick then so be it, then I'll stay home as that's the sanest thing to do (unlike an indirect colleague of mine who came to work because 'it was only a little cough and a runny nose', ugh...). Grocery shopping was awful as the hoarders were there before us and we went early to be able to get our everyday items. Even saw a lady walking out of the supermarket with like 6 packs of toiletpaper... Must have had the shits real bad then..

I work on a university campus, but our company's no part of it, so we stay open for business even now that the uni is closed for two weeks. Our boss already announced we will go on, even when it's against the advice that went out for the whole country. Our work is far more important to our country and Europe, than trying to contain the virus by not going to work at all (their words) as it's about food safety. Of course, healthy employees are free to decide for themselves whether to come or not.

Also, something that may be considered funny, Netherlands lock down restaurants and cafés as previously mentioned (and not the funny part), but also coffeeshops (the ones selling weed and such) starting at 6 pm today (March 15). This was announced at 5.30 pm. Everyone at 5.45:

Bars and Nightclubs to close. Majority of schools are closed. Everything else must maintain under 250 people and requires social distancing.
LA city specifically will close everything down at midnight tonight except for grocers, pharmacies, and restaurants offering takeout and delivery.
