Stanley parable - Why the hate?

Ok can anyone legitimately explain to me why is this getting flaked atm on steam hub?

I haven't played the mod so I have 0 knowledge about the game.

Most of the rants I'm seeing is it is the same story as the mod (compared to the rumors that it's gonna be different) and it's too expensive

I was actually looking forward on this game, but if paying 12$ just for the updated graphics, then I'd rather DL the mod
