Do any of you enter a giveaway without knowing what the game is about? And if so have you ever a won a game like that and what were your thoughts about it?

I did it before... wasted something along the lines of 100-200 points on dear esther. oh boy do i regret that. Now i'm checking giveaways before entering them...

Used to enter pretty much every giveaway I saw, even if I'd never heard of the game before.

I hardly enter anything now, though.

I tend to judge games that are being given away almost as if I were buying them, so no, I don't enter giveaways blindly. :p

My points generally stay around the 250-300 range.

Never blind. However, the ones I enter for I don't always know a lot about, I won't deny that. I like to take a gamble if something sounds interesting. I tend to do it with my money as well. :P

When I entered giveaways, I tried to learn about the games I enter for enough to make a purchasing decision about them. Which isn't much, really. I bought all sorts of crap. :)

When I think it's a good game, I go check it on youtube.

I usually check the game, before entering... To see if I might me interested in something alike...

On the other topic; Why don't you like Dear Esther?! I understand it's totally different from any other game, but I actually enjoyed the experience... Passed it twice, actually, just to better understand the story... Beautiful game...

Nope. I'm pretty picky about the games I enter, my filter list is massive.

Hmm I enter most giveaways blind actually. But I'm a game developer myself and I play just about any kind of game. I often find the bad parts of a game are just as interesting as the good parts and I've never played a game that didn't teach me anything. This is also the reason why I buy Humble Bundles blindly. Paying a few euros for 5 games or more is always worth it in my opinion.
Another side effect of this is that I rarely finish a game, because by the time I get halfway most times I feel as if I know everything that I need to know about the game and I get that feeling that I could be playing something else, something fresh.
I hope this justifies my blind entering of giveaways :)

No. Of course I don't know everything about the games I enter, but I always check the Steam store page and often also read reviews on Metacritic or other sites before I enter. I don't win much anyway and it would be too disappointing to finally win a game only to find out I'm not interested in it at all. And it would also be a shame if someone else who would have enjoyed the game could have won it instead of course.

I had to increase the walking speed in Dear Esther as it was simply too slow for me, but afterwards I enjoyed it (and still do, not done yet). Not the greatest 'game' of all time, but interesting.

Always, aside from few exceptions. Almost nobody played the games from my giveaways, it's time to return the favour.

I check everytime at least the metascore...if it doesn't have any I'll try anyway, IF I do not have better games where spend my points on

Now I'm just entering game titles I've known, and filtering out some indies that I don't even know they are exist before

It depends really. I kinda want to maximize the efficiency of my points so if I have 300pts, I turn off the filter(viewing mostly public giveaways) and select games that I don't have yet

Due to the almost non-existent chance of actually ever winning anything, I enter every give-away that is for anything as long as I know it's not rubbish.

No, I always check games I don't know. I've even met a few nice games I had no idea existed thanks to this. :D

I usually enter what is on my wishlist, but on a few occasions it was the other way around - some giveaway catched my eye, I checked the game and it landed on my wishlist.

Nah, I enter only for stuff I want or at least have an interest in. Still never have enough points though lol.

I only enter games I want, and never used up all my points just because I have it. proof? my number of entries is less than yours.

I always check games before I enter them, I don't want another game rotting in my backlog and "waste" the gift that was given to me.

I always check games to see what they are like before I enter for them, I am fairly open-minded when it comes to games however so unless I have specifically not liked that type of game before (examples would be hacker evolution, I won that and did not find it compelling so I don't enter for anything like that anymore) then I will enter for it if I have points left over

If there's a game that looks interesting, but that I don't know, I first check out the Steam store page.
