Second isn't very helpful either. I'm sure some MMO lovers will come soon!

I'll also take MMORPG suggestions since I honestly don't know the difference between the two.
Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game.
MMO is just a catch-all for any game with a large number of players who can interact with one another in meaningful ways within the same world [versus games like, say, online poker, where there's online interaction and lots of players, but it's not based in grouping up or socializing or world immersion or the like, and isn't based in all the players in the program all sharing the same world (or, by the metaphor, the same table) ]. MMORPGs are the dominant category of MMO, though Racing MMOs, MMOFPSes, and more all do exist in small quantity.

You can't really experience a MMORPG unless you are going to spend countless hours in it, yeah you will have fun (or not) leveling, but the real gameplay is at the end game content (max level) raids.
I recommend Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, it's one of the best.

I did not know this is real. Also, the combat is not the kind from Matrix: Path of Neo sadly.

Well, it's not on Steam but Guild Wars 2 has a F2P option that makes the vanilla game available in its entirety. it's also getting a second expansion soon. If you really want others to see what you're playing on Steam you can always just add a non-Steam game.

I played Guild Wars 2 for about 2 weeks as my first MMO. I think it is a great game! The game is all about end game content. You grind for 5-6 days to get to level 80 (capped) and then do all kind of dungeons, gathering resources, making better equipment, fighting world bosses, etc.
I got bored of it after playing 10 hours per day every single day for two weeks... Although I'm not really a fan of MMO, the game was a pleasant trip :^)

A general advice is that most good MMO seems a lot confusing at start but after a while once you know the game and the fog clears out everything is ok. A second advice is try to choose a nice big community, nice cause nice is nice :P big cause you dont wanna feel alone in an mmo
Myself i am a wow player for 14 years now or so , i quited a few times but i always come back , wow its not confusing at start cause it has a tip system that is actually good plus there are several youtubers with guides that makes things even easier . They say wow is on the top and they are not wrong its a good one , but you need to buy the game and sub
Now i havent tried it myself i am w8ing for its release on steam but i always wanted to ...Secret world just got f2p and i hear good things about it , keep in mind i havent touched it yet but i have seen many videos and it looks good

Some of the best MMOs I've played have been DAoC, WoW, EVE Online, TSW (Now SWL) and Warhammer Online. I can recommend all of them. Warhammer was taken offline a while ago, but there is a free server running at the moment. I'm currently enjoying SWL very much, and I find it a fair bit different then your standard MMO. SWL does have a F2P model as well.

I'm mostly just confused with how to play them. Confusing interface, gameplay, and the fact that the ones I tried didn't really give a tutorial. I was just running around trying to figure out what to do and how to progress successfully.. I don't remember which ones I tried because it was a while ago, but they were just crappy free ones. Probably why I got such a bad impression.
I've heard of those games but haven't tried them. They seem popular so I'll add them to my list.

Although I haven't played in a long time and I didn't like how they manage the expansion (and now the new one, I think) for old players (the ones who bought the main game) I enjoyed a lot Guild Wars 2.
I bought it pretty much at realase and it gave me tons of hours of fun. LEveling a character is, for me, very funny... or it was. One day simply told to myself "you need to stop doing the same over and over every day, stop this shit".
However it's enjojable for beginngers, a lot, it's very "free roaming". You can level up, do missions, kill creatures, explore, make events... It has a F2P version, check it if you are interested.

I think you can't fail with GW2. You can just explore, play casually, play socially... Or try to do everything and play it in a more completionist way. A week, a month... It's a good choice. I even been thinking in reinstalling it, although I just have the main game, not the expansion. Still can have plenty of fun

I used to be in love with Metin2 years ago - sadly it went on and got worse and worse adding even more stuff... nowadays you have a rare amount of options in the game if you want to keep up: a) invest hella lot of money. b) invest millions of hours to know which stuff is awesome for what and how to get it and try to level up without Itemshop stuff (and still get boosted away by those who invest hundreds of euros each month)...
It's fun - yes. Sometimes it still is, sadly some servers are pretty much dead and without doing any of said options you will probably never be one of the best there. Quite sad since it got pretty much pay2win over the years in my opinion

Gotta admit that I got - on my main char only - over 4k hours...
Some private servers are still a lot of fun - maybe you should go and check those out if you're intrested in trying it since it's free2play and the controls are pretty easy - Shortcuts (keyboard) are explained and you can change them (in the controls, if you want to - at least in the official version) and otherwise there are buttons on the bottom where you can click on everything to activate it or open it - but the shortcuts are damn easy xD It's basically jump in and play

I love trying new game genres but one genre I could never understand is MMOs. I tried a few and they were incredibly confusing.
Does anyone know any good MMO's for beginners? Preferably ones on steam. I'll also take MMORPG suggestions since I honestly don't know the difference between the two.
lvl 2 gib lvl 1 gib
Also I hope the poll isn't incorrect. I just googled popular ones :)
Hope everyone has a good week!
