I just fell a little for a scammer lol.

I got a message from some new guy who just requested a friendship saying his friend wants to talk to me but can't add me for some reason (error or some shit) and wants me to add him. So he gave me the link, it looked exactly like SteamCommunity but 1-2 letters were different. I didn't notice that and went there and I saw some Steam profile. I wanted to add him as friends but I see I'm not logged in so I click "log into Steam account" and fortunately there's this big red screen with some warning coming up and then I realized it was a scam site lol.

Yep, it's me. I know I've always been saying you'd have to be an idiot to fall for one of these and... oh well :D

I didn't log in so I hope nothing happens with my Steam account. But I changed the pass just to be sure.

I guess that proves one thing - never say never, anything can happen :D

Edit: I just re-installed Windows just to be on the safe side. I've been meaning to do it anyway but was too lazy, this at least gave me a reason :)

Sometimes you don't need to press anything to download something. Silent java drive-bys will download and execute a file in the background without you ever knowing. The internet is scary :c

Maybe if you're still using Netscape Navigator and Java 1.2

Yeah but I keep my Java up to date. Those exploits are patched on daily basis. I keep everything updated all the time plus Norton always stops infected java scripts (I've came across them on some sites before).

Really?

I make it a habit to read all of the "new scam" messages just in case I missed one. The majority of them are rather obvious, though.

No offense but this scam has been around for months and most people know about it. They have used up most of the URLs that look even close to steamcommunity at this point.

I don't think the scam link was intendended to take over your account. It just wipes all your inventory.

happened to me more than 5 times that "random" ppl want me to add other persons at steam bc of a "alleged trade". I always blocked + reported them. next time you know :p

Yeah, lately this happens to me too and I block them immediately. But none of them linked me to what I thought was Steam Community page lol. I thought it was legit, that's what deceived me.
