So everyone has standards to deciding what they buy and when, what are yours?

Some of mine are general and many people follow them.

  1. Don't buy anything unless it's a daily, flash, or community choice. Wait until final day of sale to purchase titles not reaching that benchmark.

  2. Don't buy indies unless they're super cheap (75% off or better) + plan to play them soon. If you are wondering whether or not it will be bundled, it will.

  3. Be wary of Early Access Games. Do not buy regardless of discount unless they have a healthy community that I plan on participating in and look to be successful and have an end in sight. Titles like Kerbal Space Program and Day-Z fit this for me. Games like SNOW do not.

  4. Try to be on Steam the moment new deals (at 1pm EST, and every time the new community choice/flash are revealed) to take advantage of price mistakes and if you see a price mistake, jump on it, don't hesitate, don't question. Do it before it gets fixed.

  5. When voting for community choice and own a majority of the titles offered, don't want any, or want multiple - vote for the one with the greatest discount. Or be a troll and vote for the shittest game on offer.

  6. Don't buy ANYTHING with less than a 50% discount unless I plan to install and play immediately. I break this at least once a sale.

  7. Hope like hell there are no games given away by Steam that fuck Steam up for hours and ruin sales.

I generally don't, but I will if its something I really want and I will play basically right away. Right now, there are not a lot of games I can think of that Id break 75% for.

Although I would also add the "only if discount greater than 75 % rule".

Mine is

  1. Buy everything you see
  2. Only do number 1 if you have enough money.
  3. Don't buy anything with less than 100% discount.

  1. Vote for them cards, vote for the game that looks the most fun.
  2. Wait for daily, flash or community.
  3. Will only be using the steam funds I've got from selling trading cards and Team Fortress 2 stuff.

Let others buy me stuff and focus on gifting. After Christmas with close to 20 gifts, I think I can worry about others this time.

  1. Buy Skyrim LE on flash sale.
  2. Buy Dishonored GOTY on flash sale.
  3. Log in when new deals are up to look for pricing errors.
  4. Don't buy anything else unless I'm sure I will play it this summer.

Even if it's just -50%, buy it. We probably won't get better platformers this year.

I will not buy a single indie game except if it's below 75%, bought a lot of indie games last sale and most of them are still unplayed.

My rule is only buy a game if it is $10 or less with all DLC included. I make an exception if I know I will play the game right away. I only have this rule because my backlog is so big that most games will likely drop below $10 before I get time to play them.

Are there really that many price errors during the Summer Sale? o.o
I've never noticed any, tbh.

There's always a couple at least. Some are better than others.

Only Dreamfall The Longest Journey is my aim. Others.... not so much. Maybe 90% off Dark Souls 2.

I'm sticking with Reaper of Souls at the moment. And Dota 2.

dont buy anything with a discount less than 75%
only buy from russians and brazilians
only spend steam wallet on pricing errors if the price is the same as the US region store...

i guess thats it, really.

  1. Buy Castle Crashers and DLC when it goes on sale at 75% off
  2. ???
  3. PROFIT!

Seriously that's my only hope and aim, rest can wait, only if I somehow get more Steam Wallet funds I might consider targeting other stuff
