Yesterday I stopped playing AC4 Black Flag because the next upgrade for my pirate hideout (garden and towers) was outrageously pricey....I mean, I could get that money by completing all the naval contracts or pillaging warehouses (have finished all the assassin contracts) but I simply shut down my 360 because of a upgrade's price tag...even I reckon myself as ignorant.

Today I tried FTL for the first time...and I ragequit because one of my crew suffocated and died (in order to put out a fire, I suck out almost all the air by opening all the airlock and my O2 chamber was destroyed previously by a pirate ship so the crew I sent to prepare the O2 did not have enough air to...finish the job sob) What upset me the name of the deceased person was Miranda Lawson (I named her at the beginning of the game).

There has been many times that I stopped playing a game for a while (sometimes days, maybe even weeks) and my reason was usually dim-witted and ridiculous. Have you ever done that? Cease playing a game because you accidentally killed a character or a sequence of the game pissed you off emotionally?

Ha. Ha. Ha.

You know nothing.

Wait until you play shit like BOI achievement runs, XCOM (Any will do) on the hardest difficulty, with ironman if they do.

Try playing Dark Souls, the king of games of f***ing shit up.

And the worse thing? You could have prevented it easily. You know you should have positioned your soldier with better cover. You know that the boss was about to smash down and splurt milk, and could've moved easily. You knew that a soldier fell off a ledge, and still died from that.

as I said, stupid reasons.

I have played dark souls on 360, I ragequit due to legitimate reason: I died too many times and it was 2 in the morning...I cannot possibly imagine how people on pc use K&M to play that game.

That happened to me so many times in XCOM, I just hate it :(.
They start when I recruit them, I start bounding with them, I think I get lucky enough so I don't pay attention to covers/enemies, and BAM, they are dead. I hate it.

When I do it though, it's usually accompanied by a maniacal laugh, because I know how much it hurts :) Especially when it's a legendary, that was their saving grace. I'm just evil that way.

Playing Offspring fling with a "office" keyboard makes me rage quit alot on this game even if i'm aiming for 100% achievements on it.

It's just a heavy pain when the keyboard is like not reacting on these ridicilous trick jumps what makes it a big pain in the ass.

Example.

Jump -> air pickup baby -> parry -> jump -> throw baby -> parry -> pick up baby -> jump etc.

its so awful after a while when the keyboard say no T_T

Same here. I've never ragequit, thrown a controller, snapped a disc, etc.

I have given up on a few games in frustration, but I'll usually return with a cooler head; it's rarely permanent.

Well, someone might say quitting the game because creator overuses three question marks at a time in dialogues (The Cat Lady) is a silly reason to leave but after about a hour in I had enough of this. In my humble opinion creator using three '???' in dialogues in a game has no intellectual capabilities to tell me something interesting or worth spending my time listening, not gonna waste 5, 6 or more hours just to prove I'm right.

Oh, I love Pratchett especially for his use of punctuation as he clearly understands damn good what he's using it for but in The Cat Lady it just felt random. When I saw it twice in one conversation, I just snapped.

Wait, after an hour? You mean it's not just to indicate a surprised question or confusion? It's really all of them???

Comment has been collapsed.

Not all of them, luckly, but it felt like they were thrown at random with little knowing - not to highlight moments of great confusion like ones you mentioned but even when character might be slightly surprised. In my opinion it ruins good pacing of text devaluating the stylistic, I snapped at conversation when both characters in it used three exclamation marks shortly after one another but the context (to my understanding) clearly excluded that the second person should be shocked in some way at that point to express it that way. It was just a question, hell, I know it's indie title and voice actors aren't great if there are any but the actress didn't seem to know she should show some uncertainty either :).

To me it started feeling like reading some bad bad fan-fiction.

LIMBO. I got stuck on one timing puzzle near the end and despite trying numerous times on numerous occasions, I can't get past it. Sadly I've still never finished it which is a shame because it's a gorgeous game otherwise.

Also I know that feel in FTL. I had to stop naming my crew members because it was too sad.

I ragequit FTL for a stupid reason once, but the stupidity was all my own. I forgot to close my airlocks after suffocating an enemy boarding party, and didn't notice until my crew started dropping dead. By the time they could breathe again, I lost half of them already :(
To make things worse, I was in the 6th sector on an otherwise very smooth run.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I want to ask you this: does a playthrough without loosing too many crews a good thing? like I get an award at the end? 'cuz I have seen many trying to get the best run as possible and I thought this game is more of a "your crews died, deal with it"

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, the deal with the game is that if you keep your crew alive, you will have a far better chance to see the end - as in, finish the 8th sector and win the game.
And typically, less than 4 crewmembers just won't cut it in the later sectors, as you end up really needing the bonuses from the 4 main stations on the ship (engine, weapons, shields, helm) manned by experienced guys. At least if you're flying the default Kestrel Cruiser.

Not quite a rage-quit but when I was still playing Diablo 3 and my hardcore character got into trouble she couldn't get out of I alt-f4ed quickly (that used to save your Diablo 2 HC character). I sat there in relief for a few seconds before realising that in D3 the game still runs for 10 seconds after a force quit.

RIP VoljinII :(

Also, I rage-quit Binding of Isaac fairly often. I'm really not very good at it sadly.

Bought 400 days DLC for Walking dead, was all hyped up because I got it real cheap...then when I tried to play it, it deleted all my saves...won't be playing that thing till I forget some stuff that happens in the season 1...

Also yestereday I ragequit Borderlands Tiny Tina DLC because at one point (not a boss fight, just rather random entry to a level) you are met with a giant troll that's 2 levels above you and kills you with 2 radial attacks of his giant club. He takes really almost no damage (I usually get to half his health before I'm dead)...annoying.

I don't know why but I can't rage quit in Dark Souls, probably because I watched speedruns of it before actually playing it for the first time. Getting a bit angered is the highest of the negative feelings I ever got in that game, it's just too tempting to go on and see what happens in the next corner.
I have closed it early once though. It was the first time I got cursed by these reptilianesque creatures down the canalization. I fell down a hole and got killed instantly by their gases. After being respawned, I was too lazy to go to the guy who sells the purging stones at the first bell.

Anyway, games which really enrage me are racing games. It's a pain to get overtaken by opponents just in the last corner of a race, especially when it's just a cheating AI which lurks close enough in the back just to pass by when you make a simple mistake. This has killed the vibration feature of two of my PS2 controllers because I threw them away.

Oh...and not to forget World of Tanks. This is the worst games in terms of ragequitting. I have rarely seen more ignorance, lack of team play, pure idiocy and desperation in a video game. It is a pretty awesome game, but the better you get, the more you realize how bad at least ~40% of the others are. This game is advertised just too much to bear all these people who have never touched this kind of game or do NOT WANT TO speak english. This may only be a european problem, but I could scream every time I see others being plain stupid in a game which is just too complex for many people. I am just glad there are clan wars and other features in this game where you do not have to rely on your random teammates.

I am mad at racing games simply because I suck at drifting. There was this one time friends called me over to play need for speed most wanted only to bet how many time would I lose....kids can be insensitive sometime.

But yeah, I got your point in dark souls. I did ragequit couples of times mostly because I was staying up too late and my arms were tired, not because I was mentally defeated by the difficulty.

While drift challenges should'nt be mandatory anyway in racing games, there are not many games which use drifting as an element or gamemode. Arcade racers like Mario Kart, Sonic racing or Ridge Racer have a pleasantly easy drifting system and its fun in there. Need for Speed and others carried drifting too far, all these drifting challenges in the original Underground series were fun at first, but soon boring and repetitive. Even Gran Turismo has drifting nowadays, with a simulation aspriration though.

Come play MechWarrior Online with me. Watch as you admire the retardation on display from lone wolves, in a game where lone wolfing without knowing precisely what you're doing will kill you, and likely your team, faster than any other game I've played. It's World of Tanks with harder rules, from what I understand.

Hah, I have only played like 5 matches in MWO, but I see what you mean. In WoT you only have one tank per match, there is no respawn. Can't remember if there is respawning in MWO, but seeing the team dying in under 5 minutes is so painful...
There are many different sorts of idiots in this game:

  • people who rush forward, alone
  • people who go alone and try to defend one side while the rest is somewhere else
  • people who follow others no matter what their role is (lemmingtrain)
  • people who stay too far behind to do contribute anything
  • cowards
  • people who don't know anything about the armor/weapon of their vehicle
  • too many others

I guess many if not all of these types of players can be seen in MWO too.
Sometimes I wonder why I still play this game, but it has so many great moments, even after 20800 matches or 1610 hours in-match time.

Maybe this is why games like Brink just fail to compete among others, too much team play means too much pain for the better players.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah, the lemmingtrain... in MWO, it's called the Rolling Ball of Death. Now that CAN be a good thing, because if a team sticks together, they'll absolutely shred the other. But usually it's so close together only half of them can fire at once.

Best yet if when the Rolling Ball of Death happens in Conquest mode. Five points to capture? Let's send the entire team to one location. Meanwhile, the lights that went ahead to take their objective get slaughtered by the enemy team, who is long gone by the time the rest of your team arrives. I have seen too many matches where the teams essentially circle each other around a mountain, almost never actually seeing each other. :|
