I vote for Reignmaker because both games have not-so-great Steam reviews, but at least Reignmaker has trading cards, and I like that genre of game.

Would really like to see Reignmaker since it run on Linux too, just like the Kickstarter game :-)

P.S. It might be good to use a separate poll thread here on Steamgifts to streamline the voting.

I watched video on kickstarter and it's look quite interesting. I won't be baker because I short on money and I rather don't use kick.
I would be happy if it would be made because I like logic games and this is someway familiar to me.

I can't play fast or busy games, and I love things involving bouncing mechanics [eg, Billiards], AND I love puzzle games, AND I love Steampunk.

This game really looks like something I could have a lot of fun with :)

needed a TL;DR of the post, but watched the kickstarter video, backed it and wanted to comment.

Game looks cool as-is, but would TOTALLY love a level builder as part of a sdk. that's the only thing I'm not entirely pumped about.

Permalink

Was the tl;dr I included lacking in some way? :X

I'm afraid I'm not sure what a sdk is.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

People generally add tl;dr at the end of their posts so he probably expected to see one there and missed it.

sdk is software developement kit. He meant he would have loved a way for us to design our own levels.

Thanks for the in-depth response!
I've updated my post with better formatting, hopefully that'll help things :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, level builder or SDK... typically an SDK includes multiple tools, like a level builder + model builder + skin creator/templates + core code for developing mods and such... I suppose for a game like steamroller a level editor would be a great offering as a kickstarter perk.

Yep, that sounds great!
If we can help the devs get it off the ground, maybe they'll look favorably on us in that regard in the future. ;)

I'm not affiliated with the kickstarter team in any way, and I wouldn't even know how to begin utilizing redddit effectively.

But please feel free to spread the word on your own, if you also find the game worth the effort!

Looked at the kickstarter, the game looks really fun. Definitely like the mechanics of the ball being used to create ramps and walls. I hope you can disable the trail that shows you where you are shooting, though. That seems like it would make it far too easy.

Nice contest you have going on too! I vote ReignMaker. Bejeweled > Simulation any day.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Take on Helicopters has co-op, though ;)

Reignmaker is pretty fun- I own it already- but it has some idle game mechanics that are a bit weird; sometimes it's better to just leave the game for a while and come back [to have more resources and upgraded town elements].

Well, if you approach it as a 'let me play a bit of this every once in a while between other games' game, it's not at all bad :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ah, that's good to know. I don't mind idling games. I have few friends to play co-op with anyway xD

i used too play this type of game back when i had a xbox 360 really fun type of game. i hope steamroll still gets made even if it doesn't make its 12,000 mark i'd buy it, if it makes it though kickstarter i'll buy the game.

Just remember, you don't get charged for kickstarter backing unless the project meets its goal, so if you're able to, consider backing the game!

Yep. I actually wanted to do this earlier, but doing it during the Steam Summer Sale seemed.. ill advised; and the past few days in-between have been busy for me :X

:taps head: Due to circumstances, I can no longer play fast paced games [RTS and FPS games especially], so finding something other than a visual novel/turn-based RPG that I can play- and actually am enthusiastic about- is always a delight.
/and what's not to love about a Steampunk Metroid-like Ball that shoots out other, potentially explosive balls?/
It's like a modern digital version of playing marbles, with Steampunk; to me, that's super awesome. :)

The price they're requesting for a copy of the game is super reasonable as well, unlike a lot of modern games.

I also love how the devs keep offering steady gameplay video/design note updates, that's a good sign to the quality of the team.

Well that makes sense then :D Puzzlers I have to be in the right mood for, I gotta admit. Strategy is the genre that gets me the most.

Real-time, grand warfare (eg, traditional turn-based military games), 4X, Risk-style, HoMM/King's Bounty style unit command, strategic RPG?

All of the above? :P

I used to be a big fan of the first three, back when my brain was a little more agile, but these days I mostly stick to the last one. :)

Oh god, all of it. Civ V Once took an entire night from me and I didn't notice until it was daylight, and therefore I am terrified for the day I finally install Europa Universalis and give it a whirl. Age of Empires, Rome: Total War. Old-ish school stuff too, like C&C, Star Wars Rebellion, and Space Empires (III specifically). Bounty style did throw me for a loop though, I got pretty stuck on Majesty 2 back in the day. At the end of the day though, there aren't too many game genre's I don't like.

I'm basically a big fan of any non-RTS strategy game that ISN'T Sid Meier or Paradox branded.

Those are seriously the only non-RTS strategy games I really have any issue with, though :X
Fallen Enchantress was fun (especially with the elaborate full-rework mod I made for it), and the Age of Wonders series is incredible (especially with a mod I made for Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic that hyper-randomized hero skills :D).

And yeah, I spent way too much time growing up on Warcraft II, C&C series, Age of Empires I + II, and Starcraft, gods, Starcraft.

Strategic-RPGs are definitely my main focus, though- even when I did mostly play RTS games, in the past, I always made time for SRPGs. From the early Shining Force games, to the Arc the Lad games, I had my SRPG teething done on some good games :)

"General" would have been the right category.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I looked around for any sort of forum posting guidelines, but nothing in the guidelines or faq that was up addressed anything of the sort, and there are no taglines/descriptions associated with the forums themselves.

And given some of the silly things I see posted to deals that really shouldn't be, I thought a free game giveaway was valid, even if it wasn't a mass-key/big-web-site affair.

Having been a moderator and admin on several forums in the past, I know 'General' usually is meant solely for casual discussion or discussion relevant directly to the site; so I felt that to be more inappropriate under consideration.

Hopefully I don't end up causing any problems with my placement :X

http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/WJkmT/help-us-categorize-discussions

Edit: To clarify a bit, the General category should be used for SteamGifts and Steam related discussions (How do I get points?, Fortix Giveaway, Should I Buy Portal?, Is Steam Down?, etc) and Off-Topic for everything unrelated.

Events go under General. Casual discussions go under Offtopic. Deals go under deals. Puzzles go under puzzles. A tabasco drop fell into my eye. I have to go.

Interesting looking game (Steamroll I mean). It does look like it's going to fall short of the mark, though sometimes money floods in at the last minute. You never can tell with Kickstarter projects.

There's still early bird slots available, which is cool but worrying as far as success chance goes. @_@

:sob: It's all my fault for not promoting it better.
:curls into the steamball of shame:

At least their goal is an easily reached one, so they've a good shot..
And worth noting that they're really just looking for money for polishing and publishing, by the looks of it, they seem to have a lot of the core elements already developed so it may work out.

I do love Kickstarter and the game looks beautiful. If it weren't already Greenlit I'd definitely vote it up. I'll probably back it too, thanks for the recommendation. I just posted my first giveaways this week and I am going to run a few more. Might as well put them to good use promoting a fun game. I'll be sure to post again once my giveaways post.
Also since I have both take on and reignmaker, but have played neither I shall abstain from voting this first time.

Ha, in the couple minutes it took me to read the thread through you posted it. Already voted now :) looking over my list of games now, brb with links. umm, do you have, like a default post for game promotion? Something like:
"This giveaway was created to promote the game Steamroll:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/474864843/steamroll-a-steampunk-puzzle-and-strategy-game
give it a look and do feel free to contribute or at least tell your friends if it appeals to you."
should I also mention this thread?
went with a combo of that and what you put in your reignmaker post. let me know if you like it.

first giveaway will end tomorrow night at 9pm:

second giveaway will end the first at 9pm:

Thanks a lot for bringing this project to the light, it looks really promising. It's like InFlux and Talos (for the puzzle mechanic) have a baby together, for what I've seen from the trailer.
Now I'm a proud backer, here's a public level 1 GA for Contraption Maker (since nobody entered my too-well-hidden previous GA for it ^^)
I hope they will make it by the end of the 6 days delay, not sure at all, but still possible.

Kidney selling is fully optional, but not DISCOURAGED, either. ;)

I'm always a bit hesitant with Kickstarter games, but the devs have been really professional in presentation, and have provided regular updates and gameplay videos; and the game really does look fantastic, both from gameplay and aesthetic vantages.

And well, if we can get close to the goal, that usually attracts more people from Kickstarter's regular funders. And even if worst comes to worst, just making a strong effort can help encourage the devs to see the game through even if Kickstarter doesn't reach the goal, and that alone is worth the trip.

Though I'm hoping we make the goal, of course! :D

Thanks for supporting the game and the event. :)

Unless InquisitorAles decides on one of those, you'll get your pick. Have a preference?

And, well, after a point, I stopped having any expectations of meeting the goal this KS run;
Rather, my aim was to show enough support for the devs that they'd consider putting the KS back up again, and just generally feel encouraged in their efforts.

Since they're already greenlit and x-box approved, and the game is mostly done, the project failing isn't really a strong concern, but the more support we show them, the more inclined they'll be to put in the extra effort for us, in making a better polished game- right? :)

Considering the backers were around 260 when this event started, perhaps we made a good show of support after all :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thank you, no real preference, both looks interesting to me.
You are perfectly right with the future of Steamroll, even if they don't make it this time, they will surely in the future. As you said, game is already quite advanced and they will surely not stop there, after being greenlit and having a small but existing backers base.
And yeah, your attempt to spread the good Steamroll word on SG is a success, it will surely help next KS !

I've had 72 unique interactions through barter [so far!], each very pleasant, and even among the people I didn't end up trading with, only two individuals were at all unpleasant to interact with [and in fairness, both were new to the site].
