"The impossible happened. A Final Fantasy 8 remaster was announced during Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference. Final Fantasy 8 Remastered is coming with enhanced visuals in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Final Fantasy 8 fans may remember the great Nintendo Direct snub of 2018, when Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 9, and Final Fantasy 10 were all getting Nintendo Switch ports (those games also came to other platforms). There’s speculation however, that FF8’s source code was lost when the studio started to work on its next title.

It’s perhaps one of the most divisive titles in the franchise. The plot doesn’t just take strange turns or twists — it develops into a full-on cyclone, devouring and destroying expectations as it rages across four PlayStation discs. In honor of its 20th anniversary this year, we described its charm as:
The game’s genre mashup paves the way for memorable sequences like, “There’s a monster who bankrolled our school and he lives in the basement,” and, “Your girlfriend is possessed by a sorceress from the future in a space station, what do you do?”

It's expected to be released within this year, meanwhile still no news about The Last Remnant Remaster coming to steam (even though Square pulled the original one from steam).. :x

But I am finally getting enhanced. :p

i dont see a remastered, just an graphics update, maybe HD.
but just look a those faces on the trailer

edit.: yeahhh, there is a diference between remastered and remake the entire game, but... "this generation" that must be some kind of joke.

Define "this generation". If you're talking about graphics, then probably 90% of games released even now are running last gen.

dont get me wrong, I know that square enix cant do a better re-realice, I see to many HD version of already classics sagas.
I prefer a re-make of the game, something like RE2, and not another remastered version...
but, it gonna be good for kids that didnt play that game, a great FF game by the way..

sorry for my bad english

FF8 is one of my favorites. It's a very polarizing game though and I'll be the first to admit it. You really have to play the game two or even three times to fully appreciate it. There's a ton of foreshadowing and ambiguity in the plot. It has a much different feel than the earlier titles where the good and evil sides were more obvious.

Sounds like it was a good story then. I wouldn't play the game, but remember my friend playing it for days on end.

For me, it is the best game ever.

I always kinda liked that 7 got a lot of side-games and then remake. Because it means they leave 8 alone with such a big cow named 7 to milk it.

I don't know what to feel about this. After FF3's DS remake, SquareEnix's all of remastered looked like a cheap mobile game.

I only hope they do at least decent job.

Enix was fine but SquareSoft is what i miss.

So my nick gets (somewhat) relevant again. It's not perfect but surely it is the game that struck me at the right time and was a completely different thing for me as a gamer back then.

ff8 has a great story line. i was never a fan of how the world leveled up with you or how drawing magic was used in your stats. but the story. good god the story.

I'm gonna be the odd one out but... This was the first Final Fantasy game I disliked. Part of it down to the fact I preferred the medieval, steampunk or dystopia feels of older games, and part of it down to level scaling which imo just took away a lot of the joy of building your characters like in other FF games. If they got rid of the level scaling, I'd at least give it a try again though.

In my mind though, IV, VI, VII and IX are the gems.

i agree but for me it was them linking magic to states and draining it from mobs for days to get it. i also hated the story i felt there was so many useless things and squall/riona's relationship was so forced. i also think squall invented emo's.

FF8 still has my favorite soundtrack of any game in the series, favorite summons in the series, and favorite minigame in the series.
That said, the world map was really dull/forgettable and story required too much interpretation past disk 1. Also, always found it really disappointing ,how little there was to do inside the Ragnarok airship when it looked so badass from the outside.

Uhhh, I .....don't see anything new? The textures are all the same and the video showed nothing I haven't seen before. Did someone upload the same video from the original? I welcome this but I'll have to see more before I get moderately interested. So far, based on what I've seen, I'm indifferent

Original VS new clip. The original game was overall a bit grainy which i am sure they will improve in the remaster.
We have to wait till we can see more.

But If you still won't see a difference..

I had a sneaking suspicion you would post about this... I wonder why? XD

Still gotta love how obsessed they are about FF7 in particular, though. They love them ridiculous hairs and swords very much...

Well the news would actually have slipped by me, if it wasn't for Delisper telling me she was afraid the original version might be getting removed.

Yeah why does that get a full remake and the others only a remaster (and i must agree though Square can do a better job at that).
I am afraid the FF7 remake will turn out to be bad. But as with movies, i find them redundant, they could have just made a nice sequel on it instead.

Ah, yeah, that would be worrying. I do hate when they straight-up remove games after these sort of announcements like they did The Last Remnant.

But yeah, on the one hand -- glad FF8 is getting a little love (that they probably could've given more for). On the other hand, was FF7 really so good as to warrant enough budget that they could've spent making even a completely new IP? 🤔 I for some reason imagine it'll be an awkward remake, but that might just be my pessimism...

6 and 8 are my absolute favourites and right now I´m near the end of my 13th playthrough of 8 (and I can´t believe I´m still finding some new details and little dialoges every single time I play the game). I still have an old CRT-TV at my home, because its still the best way to play FF7-9 today.

I really hope they manage to get the prerendered backgrounds somewhat good looking, thats my biggest concern right now.. but I´d be happy if it at least reaches the quality of the FF9-PC-port.

After this, please do a not-ugly modernisation of FF6, Square! 💗

You like 1+2 better than 6? I enjoyed the FF1, but 2 is among my least favourite games in the series, even though it started almost everything I really love about the later games xD For me its very simliar to FF12.. packed full with great ideas that somehow don´t really work and a story that should be interresting, but somehow just isn´t. I haven´t played it back in the day though, my personal Classic-FF-Timeline was: "FF Legends 2" first (on gameboy and yeah, I know its actually a SaGa game) and then 6, 7, 8, 4, 9, 5, 10, 1, 2 and 3.. and the order you play the games definitively influences the judgement, even though I´m pretty good at switching my brain into retro-mode ;)

But that said, I´m quite happy with the GBA-Version of 1+2.

No never even tried them, and i hate the random encounters each move on the earlier ones, but i meant i want 1+2 more first just to have it complete on steam. And it would also be nice if it comes to steam that they would fix that, but if they do it they probably use a rom, put in some achievements and be done with it.

I went 7,8,9,10,12 (did not like it on ps2 because of the cam movement) then on steam 3,4,5,6,13 (not finished it) and back to 12 again (and this time i found it okay and finished it) and 15 (and still can't get used to it :p).

And i love retro games and there are some good (nes) like games on steam like that: https://store.steampowered.com/app/370300/8Bit_Adventures_The_Forgotten_Journey_Remastered_Edition/
There are some more but with 8000 games i can't come up with some names right now.

Ah alright ^^ 1+2 are still missing for a complete collection on Steam ;)

Yeah, I can see how FF12 might be a lot more enjoyable in the new version.. the game-system seems to be improved a lot and somehow the low resolution of PS2-gaming bothered me MUCH more in this game then in any others games of its time.. a descend PC-port might´ve really improved my experience with the game back in the day. Maybe I´ll give it a second try sometime, probaply on a moblie platform (Switch or GPD Win).

8bit Adventures seems to really catch the look of the NES-Era FFs ^^ I´ve got it in my library, but haven´t tried it out yet.

I recently got a switch (my last console was a WII in 2007...) It's nice to play those exclusives like the mario and zelda games, but when it has a pc version i still tend to think why play it there while i got it on a good pc.

Sequel to 8bit coming soon too soon btw.

I'm confused why they want to remaster this when there's a perfectly working version available, and not slate this for a remake pending 7's outcome.

To release it everywhere else and make more money. The current PC release was apparently missing source code, so making half arsed ports for all the other systems was out. Much like those remasters of the SNES games from mobile.

Closest I got to finishing one is when I was forced to play FF13 , got to the first open world-ish section where there are people turned to stone or some crap and then I decided F this, don't go making the game linear and THEN open world, nah. Plus it got boring af XD.
